บท 1: An Opportunity
On a beautiful sunny morning, the rays of the sun gently caressed the land. It lit the forests, the city, and a magnificent white manor, revealing its pure color lined with golden linings and aquamarine stone slabs dazzled all throughout the walls, making it look artistic and majestic.
'A brand new day!' Aeltern thought. His short black hair was caressed by the wind as his gentle black eyes stared at the door of the majestic manor, and his black suit was lit up by the light from the sun.
"Yo!" A beautiful young lady greeted him as she walked toward him. She was wearing a black suit that complemented her silky silver-white hair. She smiled while looking at Aeltern with her warm azure eyes.
"Good morning, Elle," greeted Aeltern.
"Good morning. Have you received the message from the chairman?" inquired Elle.
"Yup. I was just about to go there. Shall we?"
"Sure."
Memories started to fill Aeltern's mind. It was only the day before yesterday when he and Elle received the highest honor from the Cynosure Military Academy after successfully capturing a rank C+ criminal, the highest capture for a trainee in the history of the academy. After getting the highest honor from the highest-rated military academy on the continent, they were offered a job in the Abyss Bureau, which they accepted right away.
"Welcome to the Abyss Bureau. How may I help you?" said the receptionist wearing a black suit as well. Her pink hair draped down over her shoulders, but it did not hide her nameplate that says, 'Nina.'
The two were still staring around the lobby after being mesmerized by its elegance. It had the same color as the exterior of the manor, but the paintings on the wall seemed to enchant both of them.
"Hello, miss Nina. We are being called in by the chairman," Elle said after getting back to reality.
"Ah, you must be the prodigies. Your name filled the Abyss Bureau yesterday. Congratulations!" Nina said with a bright smile while she grabbed a card with a Rune engraved on it. "Take this, and hold it against the filter in the teleportation device. It will bring you outside the office of the chairman. Simply knock afterward," instructed Nina.
"Thank you!" The two jointly said.
'Here it is!' Elle thought. She felt exhilarated by all of the developments. The day before yesterday, she was still a cadet who aspired to be a Subjugator. Now, she is about to join the Abyss Bureau to be an official one.
Elle placed the card in front of the scanner of the booth, which immediately transported both of them in front of a silver door.
Aeltern could not help but look around; however, all he could see were white walls. The only different thing, and the only path to take, is the silver door. Aeltern gently knocked and said, "Good morning, chairman. We are the cadets responding to your summons."
"Come in," A solemn yet deep voice answered. The silver door separated to pave the way for Elle and Aeltern. What greeted them was a plain office with a tiled floor, and a white desk on the edge of the small room parallel to the door. There, a man with cleanly cut black hair sat while staring at both Aeltern and Elle with his silver eyes behind eyeglasses. Standing beside him was a beautiful lady that looked in her early 20s. She curiously looked at the two of them with her sky-blue eyes. Her blue hair was draping down her shoulders, but it failed to cover her slender body, which was exemplified by the black dress she was wearing.
"Madam Slayer, these are the two prodigies from the academy. It will be a great honor for the Abyss bureau if The Prime Division would take them in," the chairman politely said. He was calm, but deep inside, he was shaking due to nervousness.
'The Prime Division!' both Aeltern and Elle exclaimed in their thoughts at the same time. They could not help but look at each other and exchange gazes that meant, 'This is an enormous opportunity.'
The Prime Division is a special division from Cynosure. It is a mysterious unit that operates around the world. Although it mainly focuses on tasks about the Abyss, it also did a fair share of eccentric works. Even though only a little is known about this unit, with no concrete data on its members, one thing is known, it is strong. The members of them are called Slayers for a reason. Desolation is what awaits where they go, and death is the only fate of their targets.
The two suddenly became nervous. They could not afford to blow up this opportunity. 'Keep it together, Aeltern,' Aeltern thought to himself.
In response to the nervous looks of the two, the Slayer let out a gentle smile which further showcased her beauty.
"It will be fine," she spoke.
The two quickly calmed down after she spoke. 'What just happened?' Aeltern thought in bewilderment. 'Did I just calm down after hearing her speak?' A look of shock inevitably appeared in both Aeltern and Elle's faces after reaching the same conclusion.
"Hello, my name is Aria. As you have heard, I am a member of The Prime Division. We are currently short of members, so it was agreed upon that we get some talented young individuals. Both of you fit the criteria right. Also, upon seeing the two of you, I reached a conclusion. Would the two of you like to join The Prime Division as Slayer trainees?" Aria gently spoke.
They couldn't answer immediately since they felt sick. While Aria was talking, they felt as if their bodies were being passed through by ocean waves from all directions over and over again. They felt dizzy and wanted to vomit.
"Ah! My bad," Aria apologized with a shy look on her face after seeing their faces.
"No, please. It will be an honor for me to join The Prime Division." Aeltern said while still being light-headed.
"It would be my greatest pleasure to join," Elle said while holding her desire to vomit as much as she can. 'Don't vomit in front of a Slayer, come on!' She thought.
"That is fantastic! As the envoy of The Prime Division tasked to get Slayer Trainees, I officially welcome you as members of the Prime Division--" Aria was stopped after seeing the two turn around and run out of the office.
Aria gently bowed her head as she blushed, while the chairman did his best to not laugh. The two new Slayer Trainees just vomited due to Aria talking.
