Chen Qiuren was almost completely frozen in place.
He couldn't believe it. How could Wang Shi, a living person, just float and stand outside like that?
"Is this really that strange?" Wang Shi glanced at Chen Qiuren through the window, his face showing a stiff, friendly smile. "I'm not like you. If you'd like to fly too, I can help you with some modifications when the conditions allow."
Modifications?
Chen Qiuren's expression changed immediately, and he quickly waved his hands. "No, no, no, I don't need that. I feel perfectly fine the way I am."
As a doctor, he was particularly sensitive to the word "modifications" and didn't like it one bit.
"So, have you completed your task?" Wang Shi asked, his expression unchanged. "Do you need any help?"
"Shouldn't... be necessary. There's no one else here, and the task isn't too difficult."
Chen Qiuren shook his head to decline the offer, and Wang Shi nodded. "Alright."
After that, he turned and left.
Chen Qiuren watched carefully this time and saw that Wang Shi was truly flying without any external assistance. He stared hard at Wang Shi's legs but saw nothing related to "jets" or "flames."
Wang Shi floated effortlessly, as if he were a natural-born superhero, and Chen Qiuren was stunned, unable to comprehend how this was possible.
"Doctor Chen, why not let Wang Shi stay?" one of the soldiers next to him asked, a bit confused. "With his help, our task would be much easier."
"Are you really that insecure?" Chen Qiuren shot back, raising an eyebrow. "Do you need help with your own task? Are we both useless?"
The soldier fell silent. No soldier would accept such an accusation.
"This simple task doesn't need Wang Shi," Chen Qiuren said with a faint smile, though inwardly, he muttered, "If we kept him around, how much more would that girl, Siqi, praise him?"
Back at the Gathering Area.
Wang Shi quickly returned to Yi Bai's side, moving so fast that Yi Bai was taken aback.
Still connected to Lin Yue's feed, Yi Bai heard Wang Shi's voice.
"Sir, the task has been completed."
"So fast?" Yi Bai disconnected the feed and looked at Wang Shi in disbelief. Why hadn't he received any system notifications?
"Did the Puzzle Gate fail?"
"No, it was successful." Wang Shi flipped his hands, and like performing a magic trick, pulled out a small bag full of items. He placed it in front of Yi Bai.
"This is the reward for completing the Puzzle Gate and the combat footage. Please review it, sir."
Wang Shi placed the items down and silently returned to his position by the wall, closing his eyes like a statue.
Yi Bai's gaze fell on the items, and system messages immediately appeared in front of him.
[Congratulations! Your talent unit "Wang Shi" has successfully cleared the B-level Puzzle Gate.]
[All rewards for clearing the Puzzle Gate have been collected by "Wang Shi". Please retrieve them.]
Yi Bai was slightly puzzled. No immediate report? Is this a special feature of the Puzzle Gate, or is it only this one that behaves this way?
Yi Bai murmured to himself, "If all Puzzle Gates operate this way, the possibilities for manipulation are much greater."
The fact that the rewards were kept by the talent unit without immediate notification created a space for potential exploitation. Someone might just camp out near a Puzzle Gate, not to solve the puzzles, but to ambush and kill the returning talent units to steal their loot.
"It seems the mysterious force really does want humanity to fall into chaos and mutual slaughter," Yi Bai sighed as he turned his attention to the rewards Wang Shi had brought back.
Yi Bai carefully checked each item that was pulled from the bag. With each item, corresponding information appeared on the screen:
1000 Units of Electronic Components: Materials for upgrading the shelter.500 Units of Electronic Components: Materials for upgrading the shelter.200 Units of Electronic Components: Materials for upgrading the shelter.B-level Talent Unit Recruitment Ticket: Guarantees the recruitment of one B-level talent.B-level Talent Unit Upgrade Ticket: Guarantees upgrading one talent below B-level to B-level.B-level Talent Unit Upgrade Ticket: Guarantees upgrading one talent below B-level to B-level.
Although there were only six items in total, Yi Bai was pleasantly surprised.
"Three types of rewards, and I got all of them!"
"The rewards from the Puzzle Gate truly live up to their rarity. These are quite rich!"
Yi Bai then noticed a small card, like a USB drive, inside the bag. Before he could ask, Wang Shi opened his eyes and explained, "Sir, I noticed that the information transfer methods in this world are still quite primitive, so I saved the battle footage here."
"You can view it on any compatible electronic device in this era."
Wang Shi gestured toward Yi Bai's computer.
"Alright," Yi Bai nodded and inserted the USB into his computer. He was curious to see what had happened inside the Puzzle Gate and why Wang Shi had exited so quickly.
The file on the USB was stored as a video, and Yi Bai played it, watching the entire Puzzle Gate decryption process from Wang Shi's perspective. No, it wasn't just his perspective. Thanks to Wang Shi's full-vision combat module, Yi Bai was able to clearly see the whole situation.
Once Wang Shi entered the Puzzle Gate, he found himself on a vast fiery platform, with the surrounding space and sky a pitch-black void. Soon, puzzle prompt information appeared in front of him.
Normally, Yi Bai wouldn't be able to see this kind of content, but it was part of Wang Shi's battle record module, which added extra information.
The prompts weren't too important, just showing the puzzles Wang Shi had to solve and their respective rules.
It seemed like a kind of "quest" where Wang Shi faced six different puzzles, ranging from math problems, English questions, cosmic phenomena, academic topics, and more. These puzzles were challenging, but all within the realm of human knowledge.
However, Wang Shi was a soldier, and his module didn't contain any knowledge of such things.
Clearly, Wang Shi only solved one puzzle, while the other five were failed. Failure meant penalties, and a random wave of hostile alien creatures would spawn to attack the solver.
To survive meant the puzzle was considered solved, and rewards were granted.
When Wang Shi failed the first puzzle, he easily handled hundreds of small dinosaur-like monsters. Then he stopped trying to solve the puzzles. If he could solve things with his fists, why bother with his brain?
He decided to rush through the rest, fighting his way out with sheer force!
As an S-level future soldier, Wang Shi showcased his formidable solo combat ability, deploying shoulder-mounted cluster bombs, electromagnetic pulse lasers, and magnetic field controllers—ultra-futuristic weapons that made the scene look like top-tier sci-fi effects.
The alien creatures, with their fierce looks and massive bodies, stood no chance. Wang Shi singlehandedly crushed them all, collected his rewards, and walked out of the Puzzle Gate.
The whole battle process was brief—just five or six minutes, even with the added commentary from Wang Shi afterward.
"That's it?"
When the video ended, Yi Bai clicked his tongue, feeling unsatisfied. "So this is the power of an S-level warrior. This firepower... it's like one man against an entire battalion!"
"No," Yi Bai thought, shaking his head, "Even regular military squads can't compare to Wang Shi. His weapons are far too advanced."
Yi Bai turned to Wang Shi and asked, "Wang Shi, how difficult was the Puzzle Gate?"
"About half the difficulty of my regular training," Wang Shi answered honestly, opening his eyes.
So, it was easy?
Yi Bai smiled, feeling pleased. "In that case, Wang Shi, would you be interested in hunting down a few more Puzzle Gates around the city?"
