บท 4: CHAPTER 3 - The Protagonist.

As soon as Haoran commanded, the system, as it was supposed to, presented Ye Feng's status window to him.

[Ye Feng: Protagonist of "Mighty and Romantic"

 → Protagonist Aura (Luck): 1000

 → Strength: 120

 → Constitution: 100

 → Mental Power: 80

 → Trust: -10

→ Charm: 50 (Doubles for female leads, halves for villains)

→ Skills: Low-level Clairvoyant Vision, Assassin King Legacy (Progress: 27%)]

'Hmm... good, it's still the same.'

As he looked through Ye Feng's stats and skills, Haoran nodded inwardly, a bit relieved that at least this guy's abilities didn't change. He was still a bit cautious of heaven's last move after all.

According to the original novel, Ye Feng's Clairvoyant Vision isn't just about seeing through objects; it also works like a telescope, allowing him to zoom in and out on distant scenes. Plus, it can be upgraded in the future.

Yeah, it's an ability that could let one see through others' clothes as well, including the heroines, but although Ye Feng is a bit of a playboy, he never uses his clairvoyance to spy on the heroines. After all, the protagonist is portrayed as someone who's above such lechery. His harem-building is framed as giving all the girls a "home," not as a pursuit of lust.

Then again, maybe the author figured that since the protagonist is destined to "see it all" eventually, why bother writing something as creepy as spying? This plot conveniently makes the protagonist seem noble.

Thinking about the plot again and recalling how many plot holes it contains, Haoran couldn't help but shake his head with a look of resignation.

The trio of protagonist and heroines, on the other hand, had yet to walk out of the school's gate; both Liu Quingshuang and Xia Lianxin were still worriedly looking at Ye Feng, who, although inwardly enjoying all of this, wore a pained expression on his face.

But soon, with a forced smile, as if trying to cover his pain, he waved his hands.

"Oh, don't worry about it. I just got a bit excited, hehe."

He had a pang of instant regret the moment he did because as he waved his hands, both Lianxin and Quingshuang, although still worried, distanced themselves, fearing that Ye Feng might hurt himself again by waving his hands.

"Hah..." Quingshuang sighed, shaking her head in regret as she spoke, "Take care of yourself more, and try to stay away from—"

But before she could complete her words, all of them finally noticed Fang Haoran, who was standing next to the gate, leaning on his Rolls-Royce. Given that Fang Haoran often dropped by for friendly check-ins before, none of them were surprised, but they still frowned.

The first one to show a reaction more than a frown, however, was Xia Lianxin. With her nose scrunched up in repulsion, she shot him a disdainful glance first before looking away from him, as if he were some kind of trash.

"I will take my leave now," spoke Lianxin as she turned toward Ye Feng and Quingshuang, then, as if not wanting to go anywhere near Haoran, she changed her path, moving toward the black sedan that was parked opposite Haoran's Rolls-Royce.

Without saying anything, she entered the car, slamming the door close, making the driver subtly glance at Fang Haoran before driving away.

This little brat is still just a student—can't even hide her emotions properly.

Looking at all that go down, Haoran didn't really feel anything. He knew exactly why she behaved like that, after all.

According to the novel's plot, Xia Lianxin had initially misunderstood Ye Feng, thinking he'd gotten into another fight. So, as a class monitor, she ran straight to the class teacher to report him, which led to Ye Feng being scolded.

But when Liu Quingshuang later learned about the incident, she personally cleared up the misunderstanding with Xia Lianxin. After realizing the truth, Xia Lianxin felt deeply guilty and began helping Ye Feng with his studies more earnestly. At the same time, she harbored growing resentment toward Fang Haoran, the real villain in her eyes.

Ye Feng, on the other hand, had a strange glint pass through his eyes the moment he saw Fang Haoran. He didn't like that bastard at all, but since he came here at this time, why not make use of it?

"Teacher Liu, I'll head out now." Ye Feng spoke, his expression timid and downcast, glancing at Haoran with fear flashing in his eyes, as if just looking at the guy was hard for him, and Liu Quingshuang, who was standing right next to him with an 'I knew it' type of expression staring at Haoran, finally turned to look at Ye Feng.

She was a bit surprised to see Fang Hauran here, after all that happened in the morning, but her mind soon came up with a situation, and that was why she had that expression on her face.

But Ye Feng's words made a sharp light pass through her eyes. "Be careful on your way home," she spoke, her eyes then turning toward Haoran, glaring at him in warning as she added, "And don't worry. I won't let him hurt you again."

Fang Haoran, however, had his lips twitched involuntarily looking at this show of care between teacher and student.

With Ye Feng looking like he just got out of jail, how does he have the gall to play the 'helpless and scared, please comfort me' act?

It was nauseating enough for Fang Haoran to watch, but Liu Quingshuang actually bought into it?

Inhale

With a deep breath, Haoran just shakes it off. He knew that this was all because of the plot, and until the heroines are separated from the protagonist, they would remain braindead, so he let it slide, or he might want to kill Qunigshuang again, even after the lovely time they had in the past five lives.

He knew how good she was once she saw Ye Feng's true face, so he calmed down quickly.

But the time it took him to calm down was long enough for Ye Feng to have gone away, and Liu Quingshuang, who was left alone, was already standing in front of him with a displeased look on her face.

"What are you here—" Quingshuang began, but her words were cut off by Haoran as soon as she started.

"I just came to remind you not to forget dinner at home tonight," he stated, looking into her eyes with his unbothered blue eyes, making her pause before he added, "I was worried that you might get so caught up in tutoring your favorite student and lose track of time—like last time."

Those words made Liu Quingshuang not know what to say for a while.

She had thought that he had come here because he had regretted yelling at her before, but what was this? He came here to remind her to go back home? Did he seriously think she was buying his bluff that he would break off the engagement?

"Anyway, goodbye!"

Quingshuang snapped out of her thoughts when she heard those words, only to see Fang Haoran sitting in his car, driving off without even sparing her a glance, leaving her standing there alone.

Fang Haoran's main purpose had been to check up on the protagonist, Ye Feng—that he was done with. And although he originally wouldn't have minded giving Liu Quingshuang a ride since it was on the way, after witnessing the scene with Ye Feng, he changed his mind.

He didn't feel anything from it—nothing at all. Or maybe he found it funnily annoying, but if he were to just let her ride with him after that, wouldn't it simply mean that he was fine with her staying the way she was?

Liu Quingshuang, on the other hand, staring at the departing red light of the car, disappearing into the distance, couldn't stop her face from contorting with fury.

She bit her lip hard in frustration and stomped her foot. "Fang Haoran! Do you think your 'playing hard to get' act will work on me?" She yelled, knowing full well that her voice was never going to reach him. Gritting her teeth harder, she added, "Don't think I don't know your plan! You say you want to break off the engagement, but you're just trying to tattle to my dad and have him pressure me!"

These were all of her assumptions, and because she felt that all of those assumptions were somehow wrong, she was just letting out her frustration by screaming her lungs out.

After screaming for a while, huffing in anger, she declared, "Fine! Break it off! I'll never give a scumbag like you a second chance, anyway."

She was just that angry, and this time, it was going to take more than just a sorry to calm her down.

Heh, she was still thinking that Fang Haoran was going to apologize to her.
