Teleporting to buy a cake wasn't difficult. His ability clearly allowed him to carry things—he'd never appeared anywhere without his clothes, after all, so he could definitely bring a cake back with him.
The main issue was choosing a place to get it.
During his earlier phone calls, he'd confirmed that a few dessert shops were still open, so it'd just be a matter of teleporting directly there to avoid the stormy streets.
As for surveillance cameras? Not a problem.
Thanks to his habit of noting camera locations and identifying blind spots, he'd already marked all the places he could teleport to undetected on his map app. That foresight was finally paying off.
Pulling up the app, Saku quickly selected a dessert shop that was still open. There was a hidden alleyway nearby, perfect for him to appear without raising suspicion.
After setting his route, he carefully traced out a series of small side streets and alleys. With the typhoon raging, there was no chance anyone would be hanging around in such places.
Now all that remained was a bit of disguise prep.
Leaving Soyo's house, Saku returned to his apartment to change into an outfit he'd never worn before, paired with a cap, sunglasses, mask, gloves, and finally a black raincoat that covered him head to toe.
Glancing in the mirror, he felt confident that no one could possibly recognize him like this. If anything, he just hoped the store clerks wouldn't mistake him for a robber.
With the trip set, he only had one final decision to make: what kind of birthday gift should he buy for Soyo?
This was the most crucial part, after all, and deserved special attention.
He switched back to his map app and traced a route to a nearby high-end shopping mall. If even dessert shops were still open, there was no reason a major mall would be closed for a storm.
Once he plotted out a safe, camera-free route to the mall, Saku left his phone and wallet behind. Any device with location tracking would be a dead giveaway.
Luckily, he usually kept plenty of cash on hand, more than enough for a cake and a birthday gift.
After a final check to make sure he wasn't overlooking anything, Saku braced himself for the weather outside and smiled.
Teleport.
In an instant, he appeared in a small, secluded alley.
Whoosh… whoosh…
The wind and rain battered him from all sides. He chuckled under his breath—he was unfazed. Typhoon or not, he was ready.
With another round of quick teleports, he reached the alley beside the dessert shop within seconds.
Keeping his voice low and his words brief, he placed an order for a large cake, offering extra payment to have it double-wrapped against the storm. Even though teleportation would shield it, he'd need a few seconds to reach the next hidden spot once he left the shop.
Next stop: the high-end mall.
So this is where the rich come for their luxury items…
Once he arrived, Saku couldn't help but marvel at the calm interior of the bustling mall. It was barely affected by the storm outside.
Removing his raincoat and storing it, he wandered through the stores, taking his time to pick out the right gift.
He recalled the last time he'd been here when he'd seen Wakaba Mutsumi coming out of a particular store. Was she here picking out something for Soyo too?
Thinking of the gift box he'd seen on Soyo's desk, he decided it was best to avoid any overlap. It wouldn't do to end up with a duplicate gift.
She came out of that store, didn't she?
After a quick mental recap, Saku veered off in another direction and stepped into a different shop.
Despite his odd, layered look, the shop attendants greeted him warmly, and he quickly found the perfect gift: a pendant with a yellow iris.
According to the attendant, the yellow iris symbolized everlasting friendship—a perfect match for his friendship with Soyo.
After paying and having the pendant carefully wrapped, he put his raincoat back on, retrieved the cake, and teleported home.
Looking over the pristine cake, Saku grinned, relieved that everything had arrived without a scratch.
Did I really just use teleportation for a birthday surprise?
It seemed a little… extravagant.
Most people with powers would be out saving the world, fighting villains, making headlines. And here he was, using teleportation to buy a birthday cake and pendant in the middle of a typhoon.
"Yep, only a true galgame expert like me would pull off something like this."
He chuckled at himself as he re-entered Soyo's house, setting everything up for her special day.
