บท 99: Chapter 100: I Belong to the Gynecology Department

Makoto furrowed his brows as he focused intently on the treatment. Though he didn't want to divide his attention to respond to Mashiro's questions, he understood that this wasn't the Fourth Division's territory. Besides, the Ninth Division didn't seem entirely trusting of him.

To avoid a potential medical dispute—or worse, being pulled away mid-treatment by the Ninth Division's members—Makoto decided to give a vague answer.

"I'm not an officer, but rest assured, I'm confident in my skills."

Mashiro breathed a sigh of relief and asked, "So, Doctor Senju, you're an elite from the surgery department? Surely you've handled cases like repairing a ruptured aortic artery before?"

"No, I'm from gynecology."

...Excuse me?

The Ninth Division Shinigamis collectively froze.

Even Muguruma, whose face had grown pale from excessive blood loss, suddenly stiffened. His wide eyes locked onto Makoto in disbelief.

A ruptured aortic artery… being treated by someone from the Fourth Division's gynecology department?

Muguruma's shifting emotions seemed to worsen his condition; blood spurted out even higher than before. Makoto quickly tried to soothe him with a gentle voice.

"Relax, relax..."

"No... I..."

Muguruma reached out and grabbed Makoto's wrist, his mouth opening to request a different medic. However, dizziness overwhelmed him. His vision blurred, and Makoto's figure seemed to multiply into countless overlapping images.

Because there was no anesthetic, Muguruma's struggle caused the tendril-like green grass Makoto had inserted into his wound to slip off-target again.

Makoto grew anxious. Controlling the movement of the green grass grew increasingly forceful as he worked to realign it, his tone remaining soft as he tried to calm his patient.

"Don't panic, Captain Muguruma. Feeling lightheaded is normal. Take deep breaths and trust your doctor..."

The Ninth Division Shinigamis, watching the bizarre treatment unfold, were on the verge of tears.

"Dr. Senju, maybe… maybe we should stop the treatment?"

"Stop? Do you realize how important Captain Muguruma is to me—no, to the entire Seireitei? As long as there's a chance to save him, we can't give up!" Makoto declared with unshakable conviction, his tone embodying the ethics and integrity of a devoted healer.

Yet as they glanced at Muguruma, who was now twitching uncontrollably, the Ninth Division members couldn't help but worry. They feared their captain wasn't dying from blood loss but from sheer torment.

Sensing their doubts, Makoto sighed and revealed, "Relax, I'm a disciple of Captain Unohana Retsu."

The name seemed to alleviate the Ninth Division's anxiety, but Muguruma, hearing it, suddenly jolted with newfound energy. His glassy eyes locked onto Makoto as he mumbled, "No wonder… this terrifying method..."

Moments later, Muguruma collapsed completely, staring blankly at the blue sky above.

Unfortunately, his earlier struggles had again displaced the green grass Makoto had used to align the ruptured artery. Frustrated, Makoto muttered internally, You just can't sit still, can you?

This time, his patience waned. Controlling the tendril-like grass, he inserted it forcefully into Muguruma's wound, thickening it to fill every gap.

"Ahhh—!"

Feeling something strong and intrusive inside him, Muguruma's body arched reflexively. However, the blood spurting from his wound finally stopped as Makoto's unconventional method sealed the bleeding entirely.

At that moment, Unohana arrived. She took in the blood-soaked scene, her brows furrowing slightly. But seeing the reduced blood loss from Muguruma's chest, her expression relaxed, and she praised, "Well done, Makoto. You stopped the bleeding so quickly."

Makoto's response was modest and earnest. "It's all thanks to your guidance, Captain."

"No, it's your talent. At this rate, you might surpass me soon."

"Oh, I could never! There's so much to learn from you—it'll take me a lifetime."

"Too much humility isn't good, Makoto."

"No, it's you who's too modest. It's my greatest honor to be your student..."

As Makoto and Unohana exchanged words, Muguruma weakly raised an arm, interrupting their conversation.

"Captain Unohana… Dr. Senju… Could you… finish treating me first?"

"Oh, right, sorry..."

Absolutely not out of spite for Muguruma's earlier movements, Makoto refocused and continued the treatment with renewed dedication.

With the aortic artery temporarily sealed by the green grass, Makoto shifted his attention to Muguruma's other injuries. While he had previously treated Zaraki Kenpachi's spiritual body during his days at the Shin'o Academy, that was a minor wound compared to the life-threatening condition Muguruma now faced.

This wasn't just about saving a life—it was about establishing a reputation. Makoto saw this as a prime opportunity to ensure he would be called upon to assist in future captain-level duels.

Under Makoto's meticulous care, Muguruma soon appeared almost entirely healed—aside from the green tendril still lodged in his chest. With Unohana's presence keeping the others at bay, Makoto devoted all his attention to using the Shinro Bansho technique to repair the damaged artery.

Unlike the other injuries, where small errors might only leave scars or dents, the aortic artery demanded absolute precision. Makoto's focus was unwavering, and the process took longer than the rest of the treatment combined.

Finally, with a peculiar "pop," the green grass was extracted. After closing the small remaining wound, Muguruma—having stayed conscious throughout the ordeal to monitor any mishaps—finally allowed himself to pass out.

Unbeknownst to Muguruma, Makoto had left something important inside him: a single, critical seed.
