บท 293: Chapter 293: A Conflict Without Gunpowder

Yan Xia had seen the leaders of the Olive Branch civilization from afar.

They had always been watching the operation of the civilization from behind the scenes.

Would they step down due to changes in Gais Glory?

This is a question.

The fundamental inquiry behind this question is whether the leaders can change Gais Glory, making it coercive.

While Gais Glory is indeed coercive, its control is primarily psychological; the so-called "coercion" refers to mastering both spirit and body, controlling all aspects of a life form.

Yan Xia believed this was not possible—not a guess, but based on the internal conflict within the Olive Branch civilization.

If Gais Glory truly possessed such coercion, then it would not have been so simple at that time.

The key to Gais Glory is actually a mental key; it achieves control through mental means.

In Yan Xia's view, this belief is not much different from faith. In a powerful cosmic civilization, it resembles genuine divine control rather than mere flowery rhetoric like that on Earth—it's more like a true consciousness controlling its believers.

This is an interesting point.

Comparing leaders to gods, Gais Glory represents faith, while all individuals within the Olive Branch civilization are mortals manipulated by that faith.

This is more precise than kings and subjects.

General faith can bring joy to the mind, while faith itself serves as a constraint on life. This constraint requires individuals to judge for themselves when there are no true deities; people hope to achieve certain goals through this means—such as calming their minds and escaping worldly matters—which is also a desire and an emotion.

When this emotion becomes the primary feeling and other desires become obstacles, individuals will naturally choose to abandon those desires. However, they do so in pursuit of greater desires—the "ultimate pleasure" that brings immense satisfaction and joy.

When there are gods, external entities establish these rules; every being's desires are different, much like the diverse root systems of trees.

Although gods are omniscient and omnipotent, they can only set limited rules and cannot create infinite rules. When rules become infinite, that means there are fundamentally no rules at all. Using finite rules to bind infinite emotions is inherently counterproductive.

From this perspective, Gais Glory is not a perfect product.

It has numerous flaws.

Yan Xia has always wondered what established the principles of Gais Glory—was it truly the leaders?

If it were the leaders, why has Gais Glory remained imperfect and lacking coercion after so many years?

Yan Xia did not obtain answers to these questions during his investigations.

Now,

Due to individual emotional outbursts, chaos began to emerge throughout Gais Star City.

The originally orderly state was disrupted.

Yan Xia thought that the emotions breaking these things would be anger or something similar—a resentment built up from long-term control or a strong desire for self-assertion.

However, he was wrong once again.

"My life lacks any excitement…"

"What am I even doing?"

"I don't want to stay here; it's too quiet."

"…"

It turned out to be dissatisfaction with the monotony of life.

But then again, emotional expansion often first touches upon the most mundane aspects; monotony has long been synonymous with emotion. In fact, many times the former is viewed positively while the latter negatively.

This might also relate to mathematics.

A straight line always reaches point B from point A in the shortest time possible; however, many beings desire point B—the result.

If there are twists and turns in between, it increases time costs relative to which beings may feel that you are inferior to the former option.

If Yan Xia were clear-headed at this moment, he should be able to see this point.

Yet he floated in space with other beings complaining together: "It's too dull; I can't stand this kind of life anymore."

Why was there no anger from being controlled?

Soon an important will descended—either from a manager or a leader.

"Have you forgotten?"

"You chose this kind of life."

"Now you want to regret it?"

Just because of this one sentence, 99% of emotions were directly suppressed.

This did not include Yan Xia and other individuals from the Federation.

Because they had experienced it before.

However, soon this wave of emotion began to overwhelm more of them; they were toppled over and unable to rise again.

Waves of consciousness began crashing into Yan Xia's mind, forcibly suppressing his emotions.

"It's too chaotic; this is fundamentally unfair for us… We need absolute fairness…"

At this moment, Yan Xia seemed to become another being; he experienced memories he had never had before. These memories felt more like forced impositions rather than natural occurrences for him.

Yan Xia quickly fell into it; he began to feel shameless for wanting everything at once.

"This is clearly enough."

"Let's just keep things as they are…"

"Just like this…"

Yan Xia was influenced in such a way that other Federation individuals were similarly affected.

Many lives were submerged by injected memories just like Yan Xia; this would evoke another kind of emotion—empathy.

However, as previously stated, each being's emotions are different; attempting to bind everyone with one framework is impossible.

Most individuals within the Federation were not bound by these emotions.

The most terrifying part was that these emotions existed precisely because they resisted Gais Glory's influence; thus they avoided being cleansed by Gais Glory's consciousness stream. They would gradually strengthen themselves and reignite a marathon once again.

Perhaps this should be termed a war of emotional resistance—though it appeared too bland with no ups and downs. Everything subtly influenced everything through emotions; changes came quietly without storms or tempests.

...

After about 7,000 years passed, a second emotional explosion arrived.

This time it was even more intense.

Yan Xia was deeply affected; he was like a small boat drifting along with the current—not a changer in this upheaval.

Yan Xia never thought he would change anything. He returned to the Federation driven by emotion because he wanted to add weight to his so-called one hundred percent while also wanting to witness everything firsthand.

If he did not immerse himself in it all then nothing would hold meaning.

Because if he himself did not believe in that so-called "one hundred percent," how could he ask or affirm that other lives would achieve it?

No snowflake under an avalanche is innocent.

At this moment Yan Xia was one such snowflake—a member within the emotional collapse of Olive Branch civilization.

New emotional issues swept through Gais Glory.

"Life is not fixed; we are self-determined; we are flexible; we do not need such constraints."

"This is incorrect; life should not be like this—this feels more like a prison than our home."

"This is completely not our desired fairness; it deviates from our path."

New evaluation standards emerged; Gais Glory's original standards were finally broken at this moment. This crack became impossible to repair normally because it began touching upon Gais Glory's essence.

—The very birth of Gais Glory was meant to serve life!
