บท 3: Encounter with Ace

Ling stood frozen, his heart hammering in his chest as he watched the scene unfold. The towering sea beast, a creature so massive that it seemed impossible to defeat, let out a guttural roar as flames erupted from its body. The air around it shimmered from the intense heat, and Ling could feel the wave of warmth even from where he stood, safely distanced from the chaos at the shoreline.

In the center of it all was a man, his body wreathed in fire, fists blazing with flames that seemed to burn hotter than the sun. With a final, deafening roar, the sea beast collapsed back into the ocean, sending a tidal wave of water crashing back toward the shore. But Ling's eyes weren't on the beast anymore. His gaze was fixed on the man in the sky, his heart pounding as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing.

The man descended gracefully, the flames around him extinguishing as he landed on the sand. His posture was relaxed, almost casual, as though he hadn't just taken down a monstrous sea creature with his bare hands. His eyes scanned the beach before finally landing on Ling, who was still standing dumbfounded by the trees, his makeshift fishing rod forgotten at his feet.

"You okay over there?" the man called out, his voice carrying effortlessly across the beach.

Ling blinked, snapping out of his daze. His mind was racing, but he managed a nod, though his legs still felt like jelly. "Yeah, I... I'm fine," he stammered, though his voice came out weaker than he'd hoped.

The man smiled, brushing some sand off his pants before making his way toward Ling. As he got closer, Ling could finally take in more of his features. The man was tall, muscular, and looked like he was around Ling's age—or perhaps a little older. His most striking feature, however, was the hat he wore—a large orange cowboy hat adorned with a pair of smiling and frowning faces on the brim. There was no mistaking him. This was Ace. Portgas D. Ace.

Ling's breath caught in his throat as everything clicked into place. The flames, the power, the unmistakable fire-based Devil Fruit ability. This wasn't just any pirate. This was Luffy's older brother. Ace, the man who would go on to become the second division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. But as Ling stared at him, he noticed something important: there was no Whitebeard tattoo on Ace's back yet.

Ling's mind raced as he tried to process what that meant. If Ace didn't have the Whitebeard mark yet, then this must be before he joined Whitebeard's crew—when Ace was still a young pirate, carving out his own path in the world. And from the stories Ling remembered, that meant Ace was around 18 years old and had only just entered the Grand Line recently. He had been sailing for about a year now, and not long ago, he'd gotten his Devil Fruit after meeting Masked Deuce on an island called Sixis.

This realization sent a jolt through Ling. He wasn't just in the Grand Line—he was in the early days of Ace's journey.

Ace walked closer, his fiery aura gone, replaced by an easygoing smile. "That sea beast gave you quite a scare, huh?" he asked, his tone light.

Ling nodded, still trying to find his voice. "Yeah… That thing was massive."

Ace chuckled. "Don't worry, it's all taken care of now." He glanced at the fishing rod and the spear Ling had made, then raised an eyebrow. "Were you trying to catch fish with that?"

Ling felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him. Compared to the spectacle of Ace taking down a massive sea beast, his crude fishing setup looked laughably amateurish. Before he could answer, his stomach let out a loud growl, betraying his hunger and making the situation even more awkward.

Ace's grin widened. "Hungry, huh? Tell you what, we've got plenty of food now, thanks to that sea beast. How about you come eat with us?"

Ling's face flushed with embarrassment, but the offer was too tempting to refuse. He hadn't had a proper meal since arriving on this island, and the thought of eating something other than wild fruit made his stomach twist with need. "Sure," he said, his voice a little quieter than before. "That sounds great."

"Come on, then," Ace said, motioning for Ling to follow. "The others should be finishing up with the fire. We'll roast that thing and eat until we can't move."

As Ling followed Ace along the beach, he spotted a group of men gathered around a large bonfire further down the shore. The flames crackled and danced in the twilight, casting long shadows over the sand. Ace's crew members were busy preparing the sea beast for cooking, their laughter and conversation filling the air. Among them, Ling recognized Masked Deuce, Ace's first mate and the man who had sailed with him since the beginning of his journey.

The sight of the crew and their camaraderie stirred something in Ling. Despite the danger, despite the looming threat of the world around him, there was something undeniably appealing about being part of a crew like this—a group of people bound together by shared adventures and the thrill of the open sea.

As they approached the fire, Ace introduced Ling to his crew. "Hey, everyone! This is Ling. He was fishing when the sea beast showed up, so I figured we'd invite him to join us."

The crew greeted Ling with warm smiles and waves. Masked Deuce gave him a friendly nod, his expression hidden behind his distinctive mask. "Nice to meet you, Ling," Deuce said. "You've got good timing—there's more than enough to go around."

Ling sat down near the fire, feeling the warmth of the flames as the crew passed around drinks and prepared the meat. His stomach growled again, and this time, there was no hiding it. Ace, sitting next to him, laughed and handed him a piece of roasted sea beast. "Here, eat up. Looks like you're starving."

Ling took the food gratefully, the rich, savory aroma filling his senses. He bit into the meat, and the flavor exploded in his mouth. It was far better than anything he could have imagined, and for a moment, he forgot all about the dangers of the world around him. He was just a guy, sitting on a beach with a group of pirates, eating until he couldn't move.

As the night wore on, the crew shared stories, passing around bottles of rum and laughing loudly. Ling found himself loosening up, the fear and anxiety that had gripped him earlier fading away as he joined in the conversation. Ace was especially easy to talk to, his laid-back demeanor making him seem more like an old friend than the infamous pirate he was.

"So, what brings you out here?" Ace asked, turning to Ling after taking a long swig from his bottle. "This island's pretty remote, not the kind of place you end up by accident."

Ling hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal. He didn't want to say too much about his situation—about how he had been reincarnated into this world and had no real plan for what came next. But he also didn't want to lie outright.

"I was just… trying to survive," Ling said after a moment. "I got stranded here, and I've been trying to figure out where to go next."

Ace nodded, as if that made perfect sense. "Well, you're lucky we showed up when we did. The Grand Line isn't exactly a safe place to be alone."

The mention of the Grand Line made Ling's heart skip a beat. So it was confirmed—he was definitely in the Grand Line. The realization sent a wave of both excitement and dread through him. The Grand Line was the place where dreams were made or shattered, the most dangerous sea in the world. But it was also the starting point of so many legendary journeys.

Ace leaned back against the log he was sitting on, staring up at the stars. "You know, I've got a little brother," he said suddenly, his voice quieter now. "He's not out here yet, but when he does come to the Grand Line… he's gonna shake the world."

Ling listened intently, even though he knew exactly who Ace was talking about. Luffy. Ace's little brother, the future Pirate King, the man who would go on to inspire countless people, including Ling himself. But Ace wasn't using his brother's name, speaking of him only as "my little brother," as if to keep his identity a secret for now.

"He's a lot like me," Ace continued, a fond smile playing on his lips. "Stubborn as hell, but with a heart bigger than anyone I've ever met. He's got this dream, you know? A crazy dream. And when he sets his mind to something, nothing in the world can stop him."

Ling couldn't help but smile. Even though Ace wasn't saying Luffy's name, the pride and love in his voice were unmistakable. He clearly cared deeply for his brother, and the way he spoke about him made it clear that Luffy was destined for something incredible.

They spent the rest of the night talking, sharing stories about their lives, their adventures, and their dreams. Ace's crew was full of interesting characters, each with their own quirks and personalities, but they all shared the same bond—a love for the sea and the freedom it represented.

As the fire began to die down and the stars glittered above them, Ling felt a sense of peace he hadn't experienced since arriving in this world. He still didn't know what the future held for him, but sitting here, surrounded by these pirates, he felt like he had found something important—something worth holding onto.

Ace leaned back, looking relaxed as ever, but there was a fire in his eyes that mirrored the flames he controlled. "This world is full of dangers," he said, his voice thoughtful. "But it's also full of possibilities. If you've got a dream, you can make it happen. You just have to be willing to fight for it."

Ling nodded, his heart swelling with determination. He had a lot to figure out, a lot of challenges ahead. But for the first time since he had arrived in the world of One Piece, he felt a sense of excitement, of hope. The journey ahead was uncertain, but that was what made it so thrilling.

As the night wore on and the conversations slowed, Ling couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, he had a chance in this world after all.
