"How many dunks did you have in last year's dunk contest?"
"I can't remember clearly, but it was the same number as James."
"That's obvious..."
"Brother Dong has already completed the human limit dunks; to improve further, he can only dunk from the three-point line."
"Hahaha..."
"Dunking from the three-point line should count as three points."
"Speaking of last year's dunk contest, James scored 50 points because his dunks were good, but Brother Dong scored 50 points because the maximum score is only 50."
"Stay low-key~ James is sitting right next to you."
Wade Dong raised his eyebrows and patted Jordan on the shoulder, "My dunks are just average... only three points better than this senior."
"Go to hell!"
Jordan rolled his eyes at Wade Dong.
Dr. J curiously asked, "What does 'three points better' mean?"
"It means two points more than one point."
....
The second round of the dunk contest began.
Gordon's first dunk.
He brought out the mascot again, having it hold the ball above its head, but this time Gordon made the mascot stand on a rotating tray, increasing the difficulty of catching the ball.
Adjusting his posture, Gordon sprinted from the three-point line and jumped while the mascot was spinning.
After catching the ball with one hand, he performed a spin in mid-air while placing his left hand on the back of his head.
This series of movements added to the difficulty of the dunk.
"Bang!!!"
A successful attempt, Gordon made a one-handed dunk.
"Wow!!!"
The commentator's astonished voice echoed through the venue.
10 points, 10 points, 10 points, 10 points, 10 points!
Gordon's first dunk in the second round once again received a perfect score of 50 points.
Next up was LaVine.
LaVine simply stood outside the three-point line, tossed the ball forward, sprinted and jumped in a 'fishing for moonlight' pose to catch the ball mid-air and performed a one-handed dunk!
No flashy moves involved.
However, LaVine's dunk was nearly perfect in terms of jump height and body extension.
50 points!
Wade Dong and his fellow judges generously gave him all 10s for a perfect score.
LaVine and Gordon had already ignited the entire venue.
Gordon prepared for his second dunk; he still had the mascot standing under the basket holding a basketball.
"Gordon wants to leap over the mascot again?"
"Is this a new trick?"
The commentators were discussing Gordon's planned move when they saw him sprinting from beyond the three-point line.
Gordon puffed up his cheeks; this dunk required all his strength as he jumped just one step away from the mascot.
"Bang!!!"
In mid-air, Gordon lifted both legs as if sitting on top of the mascot's head and switched hands to dunk the ball into the basket.
"Everyone go home!"
"Everyone go home!"
"Everyone go home!"
The commentator shouted excitedly; this dunk was extremely difficult and even approached Wade Dong's dunks from last year.
"Unbelievable~~~"
Wade Dong and several judges stood up excitedly.
Without a doubt, this dunk also received a perfect score of 50 points; just like Carter's evaluation of Wade Dong's dunks, Gordon's dunk earned 50 points simply because that was the maximum score possible.
Jordan said, "Brother Dong, you really know how to judge talent."
"It's different from you, right?"
Wade Dong raised an eyebrow, "I heard you're not very good at judging talent; several busts came from your hands."
Jordan: "???"
"Hahaha..."
Wade Dong's joke made Carter and Kobe burst into laughter.
"LaVine is feeling pressured now!"
The audience was sweating for LaVine; Gordon's dunk would surely raise the judges' scoring standards. If LaVine's next dunk wasn't spectacular enough, it would be difficult for him to score full marks.
That would mean this year's dunk contest champion would be Gordon.
....
LaVine stood behind the backboard as everyone stepped back to give him space.
LaVine tossed the ball gently into the air, took a step back to sprint and jumped; he caught the basketball mid-air with one hand, first performing an under-the-leg switch before facing away from the basket and executing a two-handed slam dunk from behind.
"Bang!!!"
LaVine bent down the rim upon landing.
"Oh ho ho~"
The players on the sidelines erupted in excitement.
10 points, 10 points, 10 points, 10 points, 10 points!
Even with increased scoring standards, this dunk deserved a perfect score of 50 points.
Gordon and LaVine each contributed four perfect dunks.
Both their total scores for round two were also 100 points each, which meant they entered overtime.
"That was amazing."
"The last time I saw such an exciting dunk contest was last year!"
"No dunk contest can compare to last year's."
"LaVine and Gordon are going to add more dunks!"
"I only admire Brother Dong right now; just now the host said that Gordon participated in this year's dunk contest because of his recommendation."
"Come on~ Don't stop!"
"The battle will last until dawn!"
The audience in front of their TVs was equally thrilled. After Wade Dong decided not to participate in future dunk contests, everyone thought that future contests would become lackluster. However, LaVine and Gordon proved that even though they couldn't match Wade Dong's level, they were still incredibly talented.
"Go for it, buddy!"
Gordon and LaVine shook hands in encouragement; there was a sense of camaraderie among heroes.
For Gordon's third dunk, he had his teammates help him bounce the ball off the side of the backboard. In mid-air he performed a kiss-the-rim move followed by a reverse slam dunk.
Another 50 points!
Then LaVine's third dunk also received full marks.
LaVine and Gordon were preparing for their sixth dunks now; this troubled Gordon since he had only prepared five dunks before coming here and had now completed all of them.
For his sixth dunk,
Gordon hesitated for a moment before choosing to sprint from the corner. In mid-air he performed an extended layup with both hands for a powerful two-handed slam dunk.
"Sigh..."
The audience could clearly hear faint sighs from their seats.
Compared to earlier dunks, this one was spectacular but it would be hard to earn full marks.
9 points, 10 points, 9 points, 9 points, 10 points.
Kobe, Wade Dong, and Jordan all gave it 9s; thus Gordon's sixth dunk only scored 47 points.
In fact, LaVine hadn't prepared many more dunks either.
After Gordon's turn ended, Wade Dong pointed towards the corner and said to LaVine: "Young man, you can try another free-throw line dunk."
"Okay!"
With Wade Dong's suggestion in mind, LaVine returned to his original corner.
Sprinting!
He stepped on the free-throw line and jumped! An under-the-leg switch in mid-air!
"Bang!!!"
A successful attempt!
"Wow~!"
This dunk sent even the judges into a frenzy; Jordan leaned on Wade Dong's shoulder again saying "God! What did I just see?!"
50 points!!!
LaVine's sixth dunk once again received a perfect score of 50.
Gordon regrettably lost but after LaVine succeeded with his final dunk he was first to embrace him.
LaVine patted Gordon's back saying "Brother, after your fourth dunk this year's champion should have been yours."
"You are still slightly stronger."
Gordon replied: "But I will definitely participate in next year's dunk contest."
