บท 9: Special Quest
In the middle of the night, inside the ruined fortress, there's two people sitting right next to a bonfire.
"Stark, is it? I want to know why someone like you is out here? Even though I'm not really familiar with humans that much, even I'm aware that someone your age shouldn't be traveling in the middle of the woods. It's very dangerous for a human child to travel in such places." Frieren said while she was placing some dried wooden branches that she picked up near toward the bonfire.
However, despite her question I was only half-listening to it, as I was still in shock as to why I was meeting her earlier than originally.
It was a completely unexpected meeting.
"Hello? Are you there, Stark?" The young silver haired elf asked.
Thankfully her words managed to snap Mr out of it. "Ah, yes. Wait, can you repeat the question?"
Frieren didn't seem to mind and repeated. "I'm asking why a child like you is in a dangerous place like this? Are you lost perhaps? If you want to, I could guide you to a human village nearby."
Hearing her question, I shook my head and replied. "No, I'm not lost. This is completely voluntary, I'm on a journey to Äußerst."
Retaining my sense of self, makes me check the achievement that I obtained after meeting Frieren.
Not only did it give me a title, it also gave me a lot of KP.
To think meeting her would give me 500 KP, this is ridiculous even a D class quest doesn't give that much.
This shows how important she actually is in this world, even meeting Ūbel only gave me 10 KP.
Not to mention that title I received, it's name sucks but the buff it gives is ridiculous.

[ Description - Deals 15% more damage to demonic beast, 50% more damage to demons and has a high possibility of meeting characters of the cast. ]
Dafaq, even the dagger I bought in the shop isn't this OP. While it has limited uses, this single title actually stocks with another buff if I ever get more.
How racist this elf toward demons?
Knowing her? Definitely a lot.
In her perspective there's nothing wrong with it, demons are just animals that don't need compassion or mercy.
Plus her hatred is pretty much justified, I'm not going to say anything about it, although for now I'm still neutral with my impression of demons.
Because I haven't really experienced being their victim, but I have a feeling that it would change real soon.
Hearing my answer, no matter how muted her feelings were, she was definitely surprised by this and couldn't help but blink a couple times. "Eh..? You want to travel to Äußerst? All by yourself?"
I could see it, the look of doubt on her face, can't blame her for thinking that way, if I was a normal child, there's no way I'd do something like this.
But unfortunately, I'm an adult in the body of a child. "Yes, don't worry about me. I can handle myself just fine."
Frieren didn't believe me at all and thought of it as foolishness. "No, I can't allow this."
I narrowed my gaze and said. "It's my choice."
After hearing that, she paused for a bit before sighing. "I suppose you are right. I have no right to stop you from your journey, however I can't leave you be, for now I will follow you since I'm going to the Central Lands anyway, might as well join you."
"What..?" This was completely different from what I expected to happen.
Then suddenly I got another achievement.
[ Achievement - Frieren's Party! ]
[ Title Reward - The Protagonist Companion! ]
[ Description - 20% mana increase, 10% faster when learning folk spells. ]
Another one?!
I couldn't believe it, just being with Frieren gives me a lot of benefits, although the KP reward isn't as the first achievement.
But it's still 100 KP.
Then another notification arrived.
[ Special Quest - Become Frieren's Disciple! ]
[ Difficulty - C+ ]
[ Rewards - 6,500 KP, Title - Frieren's Disciple (Unique) ]
[ Warning! - This may affect Serie's impression of you! ]
Damn, there's a lot to unpack here, this the most unexpected encounter I have in this world so far.
Not to mention the most bountiful.
"Hm..? What's this? Did your mana just increase?" Frieren became interested at the sudden increase of my mana.
It wouldn't be strange for a mage her caliber to notice such a thing, if she didn't then she wouldn't be worthy of being called the Last Great Mage.
I thought of lying about it, however an idea suddenly appeared in my mind, this might be a little manipulative but…
It's the fastest way to complete the special quest. "Maybe it did, who knows."
I smiled mysteriously at the silver elf, and that only made her more curious, she has this terrible habit of wanting to satisfy her curiosity.
She wouldn't rest until she understands it.
"Tell me." Frieren moved closer to my spot.
She was getting a little too close, as if personal space was invisible to her.
"Fine, I'll tell you. But only if you agree with my condition." I showed my fangs toward the prey and was about to completely devour it.
"Anything, just tell me how you did it."
And finally, the last act to complete the devouring.
This elf is way too gullible.
"Then, I want you to teach me some spells you know." I wasn't going to say something direct like 'accept me as your disciple' because I have a feeling that she would reject it.
Fern became her disciple through Hieter's trickery. After all, I'm going to do the same.
It will start as this, but eventually I'd become her real disciple.
Frieren thought for a moment, before replying. "Alright, I'm interested how fast you'll learn them, considering your age I'm surprised you already have that size of mana, it's as big if not bigger than some mage several times older than you."
Then said, "Now, tell me how your mana reserve suddenly increased."
I nodded and answered. "Because of you, I don't know how it increased but since you offered to be my guide it suddenly increased."
Nothing I said was a lie, however it wasn't the complete truth either.
Frieren stared blankly at my direction. "Huh…that happened? You didn't lie at all, strange…how exactly…?"
She started mumbling words that I couldn't hear, but eventually she stopped and said. "I don't know why that happened, but I'm going to find out, this will be my priority for now. Anyway, since a deal is a deal, I will teach you some spells, hopefully you'll live up to my expectations."
Nice! Now, I just have to continue impressing her and I'll eventually complete the quest.
And to exceed her expectations, I'll have to cheat using the community.
"For now, let's sleep. It's already late at night." To which she immediately lay into the ground and would immediately sleep without any bedsheets at all.
"Wait, you're going to sleep just like that without any cover at all?" I stared at her in disbelief.
"Hm? I would if I have any, but I lost mine a while ago, in fact I wasn't supposed to stay here, my plan was to originally find a town and sleep at some inn, but thanks to you I'm still here."
Ah, so it's my fault..
Now that's awkward, anyway I can't let her sleep cold, she might get sick or something.
Thankfully, I have two bedsheets.
"I have an extra bedsheet.."
"Oh! Are you willing to lend it to me?"
"Yeah, I'll feel bad if you'll sleep while cold."
"Thanks!"
"You're welcome…"

The next morning, I only realized something. "Oh, right I forgot that Frieren isn't a morning person…"
My eyes fell at her peaceful sleeping self, and realized once more. "Oh, fuck I'm going to replace Fern with her daily ritual with Frieren aren't I?"
Now I'm starting to regret accepting this quest, for a bit.
Anyway, since she's asleep and wouldn't be waking up anytime soon. I should start looking for a talent that could exceed her expectations of me.
So I opened the community shop and started searching for something that I could afford.
At the moment I have 1,665 KP as my budget, although I'll only use 600 KP to buy the talent that fits this quest.
Exactly the amount of KP that I received from meeting Frieren.
"Let's see…"
I searched for mage talent and honestly, most of them are ridiculously expensive.

Description - Will learn everything related to mystical knowledge naturally like breathing.

Description - One of the most promising talents of your generation, not the best but certainly a great talent amongst the mage your generation.

Okay, while the last one isn't as expensive as the other 2. It's still something that I couldn't afford right now.
That's why I have to find the most cost efficient talent that I could afford right now and after a few hours of looking, finally I found the perfect one.
[ Genius Spell Learner (Talent)
Description - You're a genius at learning any spell, no matter how complex that spell may be.
Rarity - Rare
-Price 650 KP. ]
It's certainly above the budget I've set, but it's the perfect talent that I needed right now, that's why without hesitation I bought it.
Now, then it's time to prepare some food and wake this elf up.

Author Notes: The new talent he has is very specific, it doesn't increase his understanding in mana nor it's helpful in combat, however he's going to have an easy way of understanding new spells, that includes the one in his arsenal.
