The Democratic Life Meeting has been around for years and still has its place, but absolutely, absolutely, the majority are still just going through the motions.
Its main content includes under new circumstances, strengthening and standardizing internal political life, enhancing self-purification, self-renewal, self-improvement abilities, and so on—a whole bunch of things.
At these meetings, party members and officials are expected to honestly give each other feedback, to help everyone recognize their shortcomings; they're supposed to dare to blush, dare to point out issues and dare to struggle, to make others sweat, feel ashamed, and purify their souls or whatever.
