บท 22: Chapter 22: Dawn of New Challenges(Rio)

The first rays of morning light filtered through the curtains of Room 204, casting a golden hue over the simple yet cozy space. Rio stirred beneath the covers, his mind slowly waking from the fog of sleep. The familiar hum of the city outside was a comforting background noise, a reminder of the world that waited beyond these four walls.

He blinked, rubbing the sleep from his intense green eyes, then glanced over at Charmeleon, who was still curled up at the foot of the bed. The flame on its tail burned steadily, a soft orange glow that lit up the room in the dim light. Rio allowed himself a rare smile. Seeing Charmeleon at peace was a small but significant reward, a sign that yesterday's victory had been as fulfilling for his partner as it had been for him.

But he knew better than to let the calm linger too long. Today was a new day, and with it came new challenges.

Sliding out of bed, Rio padded softly across the room to the bathroom. The cool tiles were a shock to his bare feet, waking him up further. He turned on the shower, waiting for the water to warm up before stepping in. The water cascaded over his head, washing away the last remnants of sleep and filling the small space with steam. As he scrubbed the grime of the previous day from his skin, his thoughts drifted to the Boulder Badge now secured in his bag. It had been a hard-won battle, but they had come out on top. Yet, in the back of his mind, he knew that this was just the beginning.

After the shower, Rio brushed his teeth, the minty freshness helping to sharpen his focus. His reflection in the mirror showed a face that was young but hardened by determination. He would need that determination in the days to come. Once he was dressed in his familiar travel outfit—the lightweight jacket, cargo pants, and sturdy boots—he felt more grounded, more ready to face whatever the day had in store.

Back in the room, Rio knelt beside his bag, checking the contents carefully. The Badge Case was still secure, the Boulder Badge inside gleaming as a reminder of his first major achievement. But there were other things to consider—Potions, Poké Balls, food, water. The supplies were running low, and they would need to restock before setting out on their next adventure.

He looked over at Charmeleon again, still dozing peacefully. For a moment, Rio hesitated to wake his companion, but the day was calling. Gently, he placed a hand on Charmeleon's warm, scaly back. "Time to wake up, buddy," he said softly. The Pokémon stirred, its eyes blinking open with a lazy, half-awake look. Charmeleon glanced at Rio, and if Pokémon could frown, this would have been one of those moments.

Charmeleon let out a small growl, clearly displeased at being woken so early. Its expression seemed to say, 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺? 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘺? Rio chuckled, kneeling down to meet Charmeleon's gaze. "I know, I know. You were incredible yesterday. But we've got more adventures ahead. Can't just sit around all day, right?"

Charmeleon considered this, its eyes narrowing in thought. Finally, it gave a reluctant nod, the flame on its tail flickering a bit brighter in resolve. Rio reached out, ruffling the tuft of hair on Charmeleon's head. "That's the spirit," he said with a grin. "When you evolve into Charizard, you'll be even more unstoppable. But for now, let's get moving."

Charmeleon huffed but allowed Rio to retrieve its Poké Ball. With a flash of red light, the Pokémon was returned to the ball, which felt warm in Rio's hand. He clipped it back onto his belt, glancing around the room one last time to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything.

Bag slung over his shoulder, Rio headed for the door, the room already beginning to fade into just another memory. The hallway outside was quiet, the plush carpet muffling his footsteps as he made his way to the elevator. The polished wood panels reflected his determined expression as he pressed the button for the lobby.

At the reception desk, Rio handed over the key to the clerk, a polite young woman who offered him a professional smile. "I hope you had a pleasant stay," she said.

Rio nodded, reaching into his special pouch for the remaining Poké Dollars. The pouch, with its seemingly endless capacity, was always a bit of a marvel, but Rio kept that to himself. He paid the rest of the bill and thanked the clerk, who wished him luck on his journey. The automatic doors of the hotel slid open, and Rio stepped out into the bustling streets of Pewter City.

The morning air was crisp, a welcome change from the stuffy hotel room. The sounds of early commuters filled the streets, along with the occasional cry of a wild Pokémon in the distance. Rio took a deep breath, feeling the familiar thrill of adventure stir within him. The Boulder Badge was safely tucked away, but the victory it represented fueled his resolve. There was no time to waste. The world was waiting, and so was the next challenge.

Rio walked with purpose, already planning out his day. Supplies first—a quick stop at the local Poké Mart to stock up on essentials, and then it was back on the road. There was another Gym out there, another badge to earn, and he wasn't about to let anyone stand in his way.

But for now, as he blended into the flow of Pewter City's morning rush, Rio allowed himself a moment to simply enjoy the victory he'd earned and the endless possibilities of the journey ahead.

---

Rio walked along the cobblestone streets of Pewter City, his boots scuffing against the uneven pavement with every step. The city was a hive of activity, trainers and locals bustling about, their voices melding into a constant hum. Tall stone buildings cast long shadows, and the morning light filtered through, creating a patchwork of brightness and shade across the streets. Rio tugged at the strap of his bag, feeling the reassuring weight of his Poké Balls inside. He had a clear plan for the day, but the ever-changing scenes around him were a reminder that adventure often led to unexpected places.

As he navigated through the crowd, Rio's thoughts wandered to Professor Oak. It had been a while since he last heard from the professor. He could imagine Oak's concern, especially given the challenges he'd faced recently. Rio's fingers brushed against his Pokédex, which was nestled in his pocket. He decided he'd update the professor later—maybe inquire about Ash and Blaze progress or even get some insights on Gary. The rivalry with Blaze always pushed him to sharpen his skills, and he was curious about how the others were faring.

His gaze was drawn to a large building across the street—the Pewter Museum of Science. The imposing structure, with its grand entrance and fluttering banners, caught his attention. The museum was renowned for its fascinating exhibits, from ancient Pokémon fossils to cutting-edge technology. The thought of exploring the museum piqued his curiosity. He made a mental note to visit later, after he'd stocked up on supplies. Knowledge, after all, was just as crucial as strength on this journey.

Turning his focus back to his immediate needs, Rio spotted the familiar blue roof of the Poké Mart as he rounded a corner. The sight was a relief—he could replenish his supplies here before setting off again. The automatic doors whooshed open as he approached, and a wave of cool air from the air-conditioned interior greeted him, a welcome contrast to the bustling streets outside.

Inside, the store was a model of cleanliness and organization. Shelves were lined with various items essential for trainers. Rio made his way to the counter, where a friendly clerk greeted him with a smile. "Welcome to the Poké Mart! How can I assist you today?" the clerk asked.

Rio returned the smile, setting his bag on the counter. "I need to restock on food, water, and Pokémon food. Something suitable for a Charmeleon and a Pidgeotto."

The clerk nodded and began gathering the items from the shelves. Rio took the opportunity to browse. His eyes wandered over the neatly arranged products—Potions, Escape Ropes. He spotted a display of Items and wondered if any of them might be useful for his team. His thoughts drifted to future battles, and he fingered the Poké Balls clipped to his belt.

As the clerk busied themselves with the essentials, Rio strolled down the aisles, scanning the various products. He picked up a few Paralyze Heals, recalling the battles where status effects had caught him off guard. Further down, a section of evolutionary stones caught his eye—Fire, Thunder, and Water Stones, each glimmering with potential. While none were immediately useful for his current team, he always thought ahead.

Further along the aisle, Rio noticed a display of high-quality backpacks designed specifically for trainers. His own bag, showing signs of wear from the journey, was starting to look a bit worse for wear. He tested the weight of one of the new packs, appreciating the reinforced straps and additional compartments. After a moment's consideration, he decided against it; his current bag still had some life left in it.

Returning to the counter, he found the clerk had neatly arranged his items—water bottles, food for both him and his Pokémon, and a few extra Potions. Rio reached into his special pouch and paid the total, and the clerk's eyebrows raised slightly at the pouch's apparent bottomless nature, but they didn't ask questions. "Thank you for your purchase! Safe travels!" the clerk said cheerfully.

The automatic doors slid open once more as Rio stepped outside. The sun was higher in the sky now, and the streets were even busier. He paused just outside, taking a deep breath of the fresh air. With his bag now heavier with supplies, he mentally prepared for the rest of the day.

Standing on the edge of the sidewalk, Rio pulled out his Pokédex. The screen lit up as he considered his next move. He knew the professor would be eager for an update, and Rio was curious to hear how Ash and Blaze were doing on their journeys as well. But first, he needed a quieter spot for the call.

His eyes drifted back to the Pewter Museum of Science. It seemed like a good place to explore, and the museum might offer a quieter spot to make his call afterward. Adjusting his bag, Rio made his way toward the museum, eager to see what knowledge he could glean from this renowned institution. The adventure continued, each step taking him closer to his goal and deeper into the heart of the journey.
