บท 16: The Redemption

When Detective's James and Jones arrived back at the police station, James immediately took Sarah down the hall to one of their interrogation rooms, and cuffed her to the table and chair. Sarah watched as James left the room and she was left alone to sit in silence. "Damn! I can't believe this shit," she said, as she huffed while looking around the room. "They didn't even allow me to at least change before brining me here," she said to herself, as she looked down at the hospital gown. Sarah struggled against the cuffs that was placed on her, trying to figure a way out.

James watched Sarah through the two way mirror and chuckled to himself. "I got you now. There is no escaping this one," he said under his breath in amusement. James waited a little while, watching Sarah become more and more agitated as the time ticked by, before he decided to re-enter the room. "Hello Mrs. Jenkins! Are you comfortable?" he asked sarcastically, as he laughed to himself. Sarah shot him a death stare, as she watched him pull out a chair and sit down.

"Welp, let's just get right into it. Shall we?," James said, as he pulled out a stack of papers and folders. "What do you want?" Sarah asked irritated. "Oh we are going to get to that, but first what I want to know is how did you," he paused, as he gestured to his face, "you know." "What is that any concern to you," Sarah snapped at him. "Oooo. Someone seems a little angry," he said mockingly.

"Can you get to the fucking point. I really don't have time for your little weird games, okay," she said, as she leaned back in her chair. "Well since you want to be so impatient, how about you explained this," James said, as he placed down on the table multiple pictures of a dead woman's body and the bodies of the mafia members she killed at her job a few months back. Sarah looked down at the photos, and it made her body recoil, but she couldn't let the detective see her break.

"I don't know what any of this is suppose to mean," she said arrogantly. "Hmm. Okay," he said, as he pulled out a stack of more papers and pictures. "According to these documents, it shows that you are the one responsible for killing this woman and the 4 other men in these photos. Also there are multiple witnesses that will testify that they seen you take down these man all by yourself, and that you are Harrington's private assassin," James said, as he tried to watch Sarah's body language. "I don't know what you are going on about, but I didn't kill any woman and those man came into my job trying to kill all of us, I just defended myself against the threat."

"Which Im pretty sure from the witnesses you speak of, said that as well. Also, I was only his secretary that's it. I don't know anything else that has to do with what Mr. Harrington does outside of business hours," Sarah said, as she looked up from the documents, leaned back, and smirked. "You know for someone that is suppose to be an ordinary office worker you sure are very...," he trailed off, "how should I put it," he pauses, "confident about yourself." Sarah scoffs, leans in and looks the detective dead in his eyes, "If you don't have anything else on me, I suggest you let me go, because that murder charge isnt going to hold up in court and you know it."

James leaned back in his chair and didn't say a word. He just watched Sarah's body language, to see if he can find anything that he could exploit to make her break. Sarah studied the detective as well, hoping that her "tough girl act" would hold up, because she was losing her mind on the inside. After a few moments James got up without saying anything, and walked out. Sarah looked on in confusion, "What the fuck," she said to herself. As soon as the door closed, James stormed over to the chief's office, not caring to knock, and barged right in.

"Whoa, James! I don't know what's got you so worked up, but what you're not going to do is disrespect me and come in my office without knocking like it is yours," the chief said authortively. "Im sorry chief, but that Sarah Jenkins girl is something else," he said, as he plopped down onto the couch in front of the chief's desk. "What do you mean?" the chief asked. "So we cant get her on the murder charge of the woman, because there is no proof that Sarah actually killed her, which in turn would be really hard to prove that she used her to fake her own death. Also, taking into consideration, that she still uses the name Sarah Jenkins and nothing else. Furthermore we cant get her on the murders of the 4 men that we found in her office building, because it is a proven fact even by witness testimony that it was indeed self defensive and they are also well know mafia members. No judge or jury is going to convict her on that," James said frustrated.

The chief sighed, as he walked around his desk to sit down on the couch across from James. "Well, you are right about that. Is there anyway to connected her to Harrington and his gang?" the chief asked. "I don't think so. That girl is not budging. It's like she knows she is going to get off and there is nothing we can do about it," James said. "We need to get her on something," the chief replied. "It's not very much to get her on. Yes we can get her on evading arrest, but you and I both know that charge won't stick and will get thrown out very easily," James stated. "Hmm," the chief said as he rubbed his chin. "Well, lets hold her here-" "Im sorry chief, but there is someone from the government, that is here to see you along with Sarah's friends," detective Jones said, as he barged into the chief's office. "What!" James and the chief exclaimed. "I dont know, but their credentials checks out," Jones says. Both James and the chief looked at each other in confusion and headed out to see what was going on.

Sarah sat and waited in the interrogation room for what seem like forever. She couldn't  believe she was in this predicament. "Please let Jack be able to get me out of this. I dont want to go to jail," Sarah whispered to herself. Sarah sat and ran through all the worse case scenarios in her head, causing her head to spin. "If I don't confess they dont really have much on-" "OMG! What if they do and that's why he hasnt come back," Sarah said to herself, as she started to panic. "Calm down Sarah. You cant let them see you sweat. You need to stay strong and wait for Jack to do whatever he can to get you out of this mess," she said, as she took a deep breath.

As Sarah sat with her own thoughts, she could hear a lot of commtion happening outside the door. "What is th-" "Ouch!" Sarah says, as she tried to get up and run towards the door to see what was going on, forgetting she was still cuffed to the table and chair. When she tried to run towards the door, the cuffs caused her to be aggressivley yanked back down, cutting in to her skin, and causing blood to trickle down her wrist. Sarah winced in pain, as she sat in the chair, yelling for help. "Hello? Can someone help me? Im bleeding."

The commotion outside the door that Sarah was hearing was the chief, detective James, detective Jones, the govenment agent, and Sarah's friends all going back and forth with each other. "How can I help you?" the chief asked. "I am agent Weir and I was sent here to help clear up somethings on our client Sarah Jenkins," the agent stated. "Client? Help?" James said in confusion.

"What is going on here? How can you help clear up anything that pertains to our suspect? James asked angrily and confused. "Well for starters, I believe it would be best if we talked in your office Chief Jacob, just the two of us," agent Weir said. "Sure we can do th-" "But chief-" James interjected. "James please control yourself. I will be right out after I get some understanding on the situation and we can go from there," the chief said, cutting him off, as he proceeded to escort Weir back to his office.

Once they entered his office, the chief immediately closed the door right behind him. James turned to look at Jack, Ashley, and Johnson, giving them the death stare. "I guess you can sit there and wait fo-" "and James please get them something to drink and eat while they wait. Oh, and Sarah as well," the chief said as, he quickly popped his head out of his office. James huffed, as Jack smirked at him, and he left to go get some food items and drinks. "Hopefully he doesnt spit in our food," Johnson said jokingly.

"Yea I hope so to," Ashley laughed. When James got to the break room, he angrily kicked the trash can, causing it to crash into the wall across the room. "What the fuck is this shit," James said through gritted teeth. "Who even is this bitch? How the fuck do she have connections with the U.S. government," James said to himself. Jones quickly ran into the break room to check on his partner and to see what all the noise was about.

"Are you okay," Jones said a little out of breath. "Yea, I'm fucking fine," James said as he sat down. "Can you even believe this shit?" James asked. "Believe what?" Jones replied. James looked at Jones with anger in his eyes and a confused look on his face. "Can he really be this stupid and unaware," James said to himself, as he looked at Jones disappointedly. "Can you believe that she is connect to the U.S government?" James asked, as he jumped out of his seat to pace back and forth.

"Um-" "And she is so connected, that they sent down a agent personally to get her out of custody," James said, cutting off Jones, while he stopped in his tracks, and turned to look at him. "I mean this is all a little weird and suspicious, because from our investigation she was just a regular secretary. Nothing special popped out at all," Jones stated. "We need to get to the bottom of this, because I'm not letting that bitch slip outta my fingers that easily," James said with determination, as he snatched up the drinks and snacks to bring back to the group.

Jones grabbed the remaining items and followed right behind him. "I wonder what he has in mind? I just hope it won't end us up in any trouble," Jones said to himself. "Here," James says, as he rudely drops the items down in front of them. Jack just laughs, as James didnt pose a theat to him whatsoever. "Oh, you forgot to give something to Sarah," Jack said picking at James. If looks could kill, the daggers that James was throwing at Jack, would causing him to blow up right where he sat.

James bit his tongue as he walked over to them, to pick up some items to take to Sarah. "Oh she wouldnt like that. You should give her this," Jack said, as he handed James a few food items and some water. It took everything in James, to not knock Jack's head off his shoulders. He took a deep breath, as he snatched the items out of Jack's hands. Jack deeply laughed, as this was all just a game to him. James turned on his heels, as he tried to keep his cool and head back to the interrogation room.

James aggressively opened the door and dropped the items down on the table in front of Sarah. "Here,' James said, as he turned to walk out. "Can you please get me a bandaid and some alcohol?" Sarah asked. "Why whats wrong?" James asked agitated. "The cuffs cut into my wri-" "Are you going to bleed out and die?" James asked cutting her off. "Uh no bu-" "Then you will be fine," James said, as he walked out slamming the door behind him.

"I wonder what the fuck is his problem," Sarah said to herself in confusion, as she pick up the snacks she was given and started eating them. James walked back to his desk and plopped down in his seat. "Are you okay?" Jones asked him. James gave Jones a death stare, without even saying one word to him. Jones quickly focused his attention back on his computer. "Alrighty then," Jones said to himself as he refocused his attention, not trying to deal with James attitude.

Back in the chief's office, agent Weir and the chief sat down to discuss next steps. "Okay. Agent Weir, is it?" the chief said. "Yes," Weir responded. "What is it that you need to talk to me about?" the chief asked. "You are going to release Sarah Jenkins and after you do that you are going to erase any and everything you have against her in your system and in your files," Weir said authoritively. "What!?" the chief yelled. " I suggest you lower your tone Jacob, if you don't want your little "watch dogs" to come in here, because if they do this will go a whole lot different," Weir said to him.

The chief sucked back in his words, as he looked over agent Weir. As he looked at him, all he could see was your typical average man. He wasnt muscular, or extremely tall, he was around 5"11 maybe 6'1, and he was very average in the looks department, but his words dripped with authority and commanded respect. "So you want me to just let her go and wipe her clean from our system?" the chief asked, as he scoffed and slightly laughed. "Oh no," Weir says with a laugh, as the chief laughed with him. "oh ok I wa-" "Its not a want chief, it's a command and you are going to do as a say," Weir says, as he abruptly stops laughing and stares the chief dead in his eyes, with all seriousness.

The chief looked him in his eyes, and he could see death staring back at him. He swallowed his spit, before he even dares to speak again. "If you want to continue being the chief of police I suggest you do as I say," Weir said, as he leaned back on the couch and slightly laughed. The chief nervously laughs, as he gets up and walks over to his desk. "Who the fuck does he think he is," the chief said to himself, angrily. Before the chief could sit down in his chair, his phone began to ring. "I think you should answer that. It could be important," Weir says, as he smiled at him. The chief nervously answers the phone. "Hello. This Chief Jacob speaking." "Jacob I'm going to need you to release Sarah Jenkins from custody immediately," the person said quickly over the phone.

"What! Mayor?! The chief questioned. "Do you know who this woman even is?" the chief yelled into the phone. "Yes I do and you will do as I say. If you don't want to, then I will bring in someone who will," the mayor responded sternly. The chief scoffed in frustration. "Ok mayor. I understand. I'll make sure she is released as soon as possible," the chief said conceding to defeat. "Oh and another thing, you and your team will be working with her to take down the two huge mafia gangs in our town, the down town savages and the black syndicate," the mayor stated. "WHA-" the chief tried to yell before the mayor hung up in his face.

"I see you will be doing what I said after all," Weir said, smiling sinisterly at the chief. "What the fuck is this and what the fuck is going on?" the chief asked angrily. "That is on a need to know bases, chief," Weir said. "Here is some documents on those mafia gangs," Weir said, throwing the files on the table, as he got up and headed out. "Oh," Weir says pausing at the door. "I suspect Sarah to be released and walking out the door by the time I get back to my car, or you can kiss your little title goodbye," he said, as he finally exited the chief's office. The chief internally screamed, while trying to kick his trash can in the process, but missed it slightly, causing him to ram his toes at full speed into the edge of his desk. The chief silently screamed in pain, as he hopped on one foot.

"FUCK!" he quietly screamed. When the chief finally decided to exit his office, after taking a few minutes to compose himself, he quickly limped over to James and Jones's desks. "Chief are you okay?" Jones asked. "Fuck all that. I need you to release Sarah Jenkins immediately," the chief said annoyed, as he looked over his shoulders, to see Weir grinning at him and gesturing that he is getting ready to leave. "Release?!The fuck you mean release?" James asked aggressively. "Look James I don't have time to explain it right now, but if she is not out of custody in the next minute or so, all of us will be jobless," the chief said urgently.

"Well I'm not gonna release shit," James said, as he leaned back in his chair. The chief looked over at Weir and could see him almost exiting the building, as Sarah's friends followed right behind. "James!" the chief silently yelled at him. James looked at him and mouthed "Fuck No!" before turning back to look at his computer. "Jones please go release Sarah Jenkins," the chief begged, as he turned to look at him. Jones looked at the chief and then at James. "JONES!" the chief yelled, causing Jones to almost jump out of his skin. "Go fucking release that bitch before its to late." Jones quickly jumped out of his seat, as he ran towards the interrogation room.

Just as Jones got up to leave, the chief got a text. The chief nervously pulled out his phone. "I am almost to my car :)," the text read. The chief could feel his heart beat fiercely in his chest. It felt like he couldnt breath and he was having a heart attack. "Jones hurry the fuck up," the chief yelled. When Jones got to the room he busted through the door, scaring Sarah half to death. "What the fuck is wrong with you man?" Sarah asked, as she jumped back. "You are free to go Mrs. Jenkins," Jones said, as he quickly tried to undue her cuffs. Sarah stared in confusion, "What is going on? Did Jack get me out?" she asked herself, as he undid her bindings.

As soon as the last cuff left her wrist she stood up, stretched, and rotated her wrist around. "Thank you," she said, as she walked out the room. When Sarah got to the front of the police station, she could see the chief and James staring her down in disgust and anger. Sarah smiled and waved goodbye to them, as she walked out the door, where she ran into Jack, Ashley, and Johnson. Jack immediately hugged Sarah. "Are you okay? They didn't hurt you did they?" he asked.

"No I'm fine, just a little cut from the cuffs when I was trying to move, but other than that I'm good," she said, smiling up at Jack. Both Ashley and Johnson rushed over to her to hug her, and to check to see if she was okay as well. "Thank you guys for being there for me and getting me out so soon," Sarah said as she smiled. "No worries. You know I would do anything for you," Jack said as he smiled down at her. "Can we go now? I don't want to be here any longer than I need to and I would like to get out of this ugly hospital gown," Sarah said, as she laughed slightly. Everyone laughed, as they headed back towards the car.

As soon as they approached the car, agent Weir came up to them. "Hi Sarah, Im glad to see you are okay," he said. Sarah jumped back, as he startled her and looked at him in confusion. "Oh its okay Sarah, he is the person director Birmingham sent down here to get you out of jail," Jack said. "Thank you for that by the way. I greatly appreciate it," Jack said shaking his hand. "No problem, I'm just doing my job," Weir replied. Sarah relaxed and thanked agent Weir for all his help before getting into the car. "Oh Sarah," Weir said before turning and leaving.

"Director Birmingham is requesting to see you in his office as soon as possible, and also you will be working with the foothill police depart to take down Mr. Harrington, his gang and his rivalry gang members as well," Weir stated. "Excuse m-" before Sarah could finsh her sentence, agent Weir turned around and left. "You gotta be fucking kidding me," Sarah said, as she turned to look at everyone. "How am I going to do that? I don't even know where Harrington is and I definitely don't know where the other mafia members are either," Sarah said nervously.

"Dont worry Sarah, you got this and we are here to help," Ashley said, as she placed her hand on her shoulder. "Yea we already took down the Russian spies, this should be a piece of cake," Johnson said. "And no matter what Sarah, I got your back and I will be there for you every step of the way," Jack added, as he held Sarah's hand. Sarah took a deep sigh, "Okay. Well we better head to your house then Jack, so we can come up with a plan," Sarah said, as she turned to put her seatbelt on. "Okay," Jack said, as he turned around in the driver seat, started the car and headed towards his house.

Jones slowly came out the interrogation room and walked over to his desk. "What is going on?" he asked himself. "Chief, what the hell was that all about?" James asked. "Follow me to my office and I will explain everything," the chief said, as he walked back in his office. When Jones returned to his desk, James quickly told him to come to the chief's office. Jones quickly gathered himself and headed into the chief's office right behind him. "Close the door," the chief said, as Jones walked in. Jones turned around and made sure the door was closed before he proceeded in and sat down.

"Okay chief what was that all about?" James asked demanding an answer. "So, the agent Weir guy demanded that we release Sarah Jenkins immediately and erase any and everything we have on her in our system and in our files, and if we didn't we will all lose our jobs," the chief explained. "What!" Jones said in confusion. "That's not even the half of it," the chief added. "What else happened?" James asked. "Well I thought the guy was a fraud and someone just pretending to be a government agent to help break Sarah out, but then I recieved a call from Mayor Wilson and he told me to release Sarah immediately, if I knew what was good for me." "Who the fuck is this chick?" Jones asked rhetorically. James leaned back into the couch, trying to take it all in.

"There is more," the chief added. "More?!" James exclaimed, as he shot up. "Yes. The mayor also told me that we will be working side by side with Sarah to take down the mafia gangs in our town," the chief stated. "You gotta be fucking kidding me," James said in disbelief. "I wish I was, but unfortunately this is what is going to happen moving forward," the chief explained. "This cant be fucking happening," Jones said, as he fell back into the couch in astonishment.

"So we need to work with a criminal, to catch other criminals, and we cant even prosecute said criminal either?" James asked, trying to break down what the chief just said. "Yup," the chief answered. "This has to be a fucking joke," James said. "How are we suppose to do this? How is she ever going to help us take these men down? Mind you, these are the same gang members we have been trying to take down for years, might I added," James stated. "I know, I don't know how this is all going to play out either," chief said.

"What if she is a secret spy for the U.S government," Jones said. "What the fuck are you even talking about Jones?" James said agitated. "Think about it. She was able to single handedly take down 4 big mafia members without substaining any life threatening injuries. She also has deep connections in the government that could one help her fake her death, two help her get out of jail with no issues, and also get the mayor to be on her side as well," Jones explained. James and the chief both sat in silence, as they muddle over what Jones just said. "You know what Jones, you are actually starting to finally use that brain of yours, and starting to make some sense for once," the chief says. "Why thank yo-" "Wait what?" Jones said.

Both James and the chief laughed, "So what will be are next move?" James asked, as he snickered. "Well we have to wait for Sarah to come back in, so we can devise a plan to take these mafia gang members down," the chief said. "And until then imma need you both to find out all the mafia members hideouts and their whereabouts, so we can get a head start on this," the chief added. "Okay sir we are on it," James said, as him and Jones left and headed back to their desk.

"God I cant believe this shit," Jones said, as he sat down at his desk. "This day has drained me," Jones said exhausted. James sat down at his desk and didn't say a word. "I can't believe she is connected to the U.S government," James said to himself, still in shock at the news he just heard. "Jones find me where the down town savages are and I will find where Harrington and his gang is," James said, breaking his silence. "I got you," Jones says, as he immediately got to work.
