บท 42: Chapter 42: Lydia

After finishing the call with the Public Security Bureau, Benjamin Clark's expression became terrifyingly grim. He violently threw his phone to the ground and turned to glare at his usually reliable subordinate, barely containing his anger:

"You said last time that it was this Logan who severely injured Simon, leaving him near death?"

"Yes... but according to Agent No.2's report, this Logan is a disguised assassin. Agent No.2 sent a message yesterday afternoon saying he would take care of him, but there has been no news since," William replied truthfully, unaware of why Benjamin Clark was suddenly so furious.

"A disguised assassin? Then why was that Logan also in South City? Did you not confirm all night whether that Logan was the real one or not?"

"And now this Logan has killed my son in the hospital, and the Public Security Bureau found guns on my men! Good, very good!"

Benjamin Clark's forehead veins bulged, and his eyes, naturally imposing, now showed a terrifying killing intent.

"What?!"

Could it be that Agent No.2 failed?

William quickly took out his phone to contact Agent No.2.

However, several minutes passed, and there was still no response.

A whole night had passed—if Agent No.2 had succeeded, he would have reported back by now. Even if he hadn't completed the task, he would have answered the phone immediately.

The lack of contact was already a clear indication.

William realized the severity of the situation and whispered:

"I'll handle the matter with the Public Security Bureau immediately and personally go to South City to bring that Logan back for you to deal with."

Benjamin Clark's voice was icy:

"Find that Logan and bring him back alive to the research lab! Whether or not he killed Simon, I'll make him regret ever being born!"

"Yes!"

"And one more thing. Have someone bring all my illegitimate children back!"

"...Yes!"

After William left, Benjamin Clark swept all the documents off his desk onto the floor.

"Useless! All of them are useless!!"

His chest heaved with anger, clearly furious, yet there was no trace of sorrow for his lost son.

A beautiful woman pushed the door open and entered.

The woman had a gentle face untouched by time, wearing a floral dress that made her appear very serene.

If Logan were here, he would have recognized this woman—she was his remarried mother, Lydia.

Lydia approached Benjamin Clark and pressed herself against his back, her soft hands gently massaging his shoulders as she whispered sweetly:

"What's got you so upset? If you ruin your health, what will become of my happiness in the years to come?"

Normally, Benjamin Clark enjoyed this kind of pampering, but today, he grabbed Lydia's hand and violently threw her to the ground.

"What's the matter? Your precious son killed my son!! And now the Public Security Bureau is after me! If this incident brings the authorities down on me, I'll deal with you too!"

Lydia was initially angry about being thrown down, but upon hearing his words, she was shocked:

"What? Simon is dead?! Logan killed him? How is that possible?!"

Despite Benjamin Clark's murderous expression, Lydia still found it hard to believe.

Having raised Logan for over a decade, she was one of the people who knew him best in the world.

Logan had always been mild-mannered, obedient, and sentimental, with a bit of cleverness but also too naive, easily trusting others.

He had never killed anything, not even a fish, so how could he kill a person?

Moreover, Simon Clark was always surrounded by well-trained bodyguards. Logan was just an ordinary college student—how could he possibly kill Simon Clark under the protection of so many bodyguards?

Lydia cautiously observed the enraged Benjamin Clark and voiced her doubts.

"Didn't Simon have several skilled mercenary bodyguards? Logan is just an ordinary kid, how could he have killed Simon?"

"It seems your son has hidden himself well, even from his own mother."

Benjamin Clark glared at Lydia with a dark, scrutinizing look.

"Call him right now and ask where he is! Tell him to return to Harbor City immediately!"

Realizing that the situation was real, Lydia panicked:

"Alright, I'll call him right away."

...

Logan's phone rang.

He glanced at it and casually hung up.

Lydia.

From the moment Lydia remarried until Logan's death in his previous life, for eleven whole years, this woman had never once contacted him.

Logan had not seen this woman for eleven years.

He only heard bits and pieces about Lydia through rumors.

She lived a high and mighty life as the wife of the director of Harbor City's shelter.

While he, on the other hand, fought wild dogs for food outside the shelter.

Logan only realized after the apocalypse that there could be such a heartless mother in the world.

And now he had learned that this woman was responsible for his father's death.

Even though she was his mother, Logan had already severed ties with her in his heart!

He had just killed Simon Clark, and now Lydia was contacting him. The reason was obvious.

A bitter, mocking smile appeared on Logan's face.

As Simon Clark had said, this woman treated him better than her own son.

However, Logan didn't know that because he had been reborn and killed Simon Clark, from this day forward, Benjamin Clark would never trust Lydia again, nor would he spoil her as he had in his previous life.

The taxi's radio continued to repeat the warning for all vehicles to pull over.

The taxi driver looked confused as he listened to the broadcast:

"What's that? A solar flare? Wow! I've been driving my whole life and never heard of such a thing."

At this moment, Logan noticed that the streets were suddenly filled with traffic officers, maintaining order and instructing all vehicles to stop.

All the traffic lights on the road had turned red.

This scene hadn't happened in his previous life.

In his previous life, when the solar flare hit, countless traffic accidents occurred due to sudden vehicle malfunctions, causing traffic to come to a standstill.

Many people lost their lives in that solar flare.

Did his earlier post make a difference?

Or had his rebirth triggered a butterfly effect?

And this scene was not only happening in South City but across the entire country.

Soon, all the vehicles on the streets gradually slowed down and came to a stop.

This included the taxi Logan was in.

Logan glanced at the top right corner of the Cornucopia:

[The first wave of danger will arrive in 7 minutes. Please prepare accordingly.]

He casually tossed a $100 bill onto the seat, opened the door, and ran.

He was the only one who knew that the danger ahead was not just a solar flare.

The electromagnetic pulse from the solar flare wouldn't harm the human body.

But there was also a powerful geomagnetic storm triggered by the solar flare.

This would cause the magnetic field of The Earth to fluctuate wildly!

Almost everyone would experience discomfort, dizziness, and nausea.

Those more sensitive to magnetic fields might even fall unconscious.

Logan had fallen unconscious on this very day in his previous life.

He had to return to his safe house to be absolutely secure.

Fortunately, there was still time.

Logan ran to the side of the road, took out his phone, grabbed a bike, and quickly rode it down the non-motorized lane.

He sped towards his safe house.
