I felt his piercing, sharp gaze before he turned away and disappeared into the night.
Lexi and I moved before we could think of what to do. We ran after him, not wanting to let him go, at least before we knew his identity.
But his speed was exceptionally fast, and it was impossible even for Lexi, who was considered to be one of the fastest wolves, to catch up with him.
We stopped when we realized it was futile to run after him. We should’ve known we couldn't catch up with him by seeing his speed when he fought with the rogues, but it still left me and Lexi feeling disappointed because we didn't get to know our new mate.
“Lexi... That wolf... He’s really our second-chance mate?” I asked to make sure.
“Yes, I’m sure he’s our second-chance mate. I can feel the bond, and I know you knew it, too, Charlotte. You must have smelled his special scent, right?” Lexi answered with confidence.
