For the first time, neither Emma nor Nick said much. They both seemed to be in some truce as they forced Lisa to sit down and tend her throbbing cheek.
"Let me see your face. Hmm, the swelling looks bad, but nothing is bleeding. It must hurt a lot but don't worry. I have a cream that will make this swelling go down instantly."
Nick promised that before he took off Lisa's bandages, he would apply that medicine to her wounds.
Lisa did not know what kind of magic Nick used, but the throbbing in her cheek instantly vanished, and she felt much better.
"Here, you can keep and use this cream whenever you hurt yourself. My family doctor makes a special blend, so it does not have a name. But I am sure it will help you a lot."
Nick promised as he grabbed Lisa's hands in his own.
That grip felt familiar, and Lisa's brain gave a jolt, trying to remember something. It made his head hurt, and she clutched it to get rid of the pain.
Lisa's painted expression instantly made Nick and Emma move. Emma covered Lisa's eyes while Nick held her hands tighter. Nick's smooth voice felt relaxing, and Lisa unconsciously followed his advice.
"Calm down and stop thinking! Whatever you are trying to remember! Don't do it! Just let your mind become empty, and it will hurt less."
Nick's voice worked like magic.
Lisa did not remember what he said, but she knew it helped her regain control of her thoughts and emotions. She also felt calmer and more relaxed than before.
"Are you feeling alright? Putting too much pressure on your mind is not a good idea. You need to take things easy."
Emma spoke softly and slowly lowered Lisa's head into her lap. It felt calm…relaxing even.
It made Lisa forget about time and what she needed to do. She wanted to remain seated like this in Emma's lap forever.
Brrrrr
The school bell caused Lisa to snap out of her dazed state and realize she had things to do. School had started already, and Lisa needed to pay attention to it.
"Shit! We need to get to class before our teacher comes. I cannot afford to be low on attendance."
Lisa's panicked state made Emma feel sorry for her. She was about to reach out and assure Lisa that everything was fine when Nick held her back.
"You are right! We should hurry up and head back to our class now. It would be best if you left first, Lisa. We will follow you shortly."
Nick assured Lisa, and Lisa opened her mouth to protest before deciding that this was none of her business, and she ran off.
Emma had all intentions of following after Lisa, but Nick stopped her from immediately following after Lisa.
His interference made the already irritated female feel even more irritated.
"Just what is your problem? I know we don't like each other, but that does not mean you can interfere with my relationship with Lisa. I will not let you go so easily next time. Now, let me pass. I need to meet Lisa right now."
Emma sounded angry and annoyed at the man blocking her way. But Nick did not let her pass.
Instead, his easy-going smile faded, and the air around Nick turned sharp and biting.
"It is you who needs to be careful, you bitch! Don't drag Lisa into our world just because that is what *you* want her to do. Lisa wanted to live an ordinary life, so I wanted to give it to her for as long as she wanted. Don't you feel the same?"
Nick had a point, but Emma did not want to admit it.
Instead, she did not see the point of Lisa's wish and why it had to be kept.
"Lisa has already stepped into our world. She saved me because she could sense our world and tell me I needed help. What you are trying to avoid is the inevitable. It will only hurt Lisa if she were to step into our world without any preparation."
Emma warned the vampire in front of her.
She could tell that Nick understood her point of view. But he did not seem to care whether she was right or not.
"I will protect Lisa, just as I always have until now. Even if it is inevitable for her to step into our world, I want to keep her out for as long as possible. You will understand one day, but I wish you never have to."
Nick spoke, but his words only annoyed Emma more than anything else.
"Fuck off, you leech! I will do things my way from now. And if you interfere next time, you are dead."
With those parting words, Emma left the room to join Lisa.
Her mate's scent called out to her, and Emma knew she could not leave Lisa alone, no matter what happened.
It was in her instinct to want to help Lisa out, and that was what Emma focused on.
On the other hand, Nick just shook his head at the alpha female's temper.
He wanted to get rid of her, but that would not be safe. That female had marked Lisa before Nick could interfere, and now he was stuck with her for as long as that alpha chose to live.
"No, she is not even the problem here. Lisa is the problem. I can't tell when her wish to live an ordinary life might turn into one where she does not want to live. I want to keep things as they are to help her out."
Nick regretted not making his move sooner. But he doubted that the result would have changed.
Lisa's life showed two significant relationships that would change her life, and Nick's instincts told him that the other half of Lisa's destiny was the alpha female.
"What a ridiculous pair we make. Fuck, I never thought I would have to share my partner with a bitch like her. Maybe I should kill her after all."
