บท 3: Chapter 3: Awakening the Cheat

Los Santos: A Day on Set

Sony Pictures, Studio Entrance.

"Good morning, Rufus."

"Good morning, Emma. How are you feeling? Still dizzy?"

"Well... I have a terrible headache."

Emma Stone smiled weakly, rubbing her head. The hangover from the night before was still pounding away.

"I had a feeling you might be feeling rough. Here, drink this—it'll help."

Rufus Harding handed her a cup of honey lemon tea from his bag, already prepared.

"Wow! Thank you, Rufus! You're so sweet! This is really thoughtful of you."

Emma was genuinely touched by Rufus's gesture. She hadn't expected him to be so considerate.

"We're friends, right? Come on, we should get inside; it's almost time."

Rufus hadn't anticipated that he would end up drinking with Emma until midnight the night before.

The two young actors had hit it off immediately, talking about everything over drinks.

Emma had opened up about her frustrations with her acting career, and Rufus shared stories from his time at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Eventually, Emma had drunk too much, and Rufus had made sure she got home safely, taking a taxi and even carrying her to her bed.

By the time he got back to his own place, it was already late.

Since today was the first official day of shooting for "Spider-Man,"

Rufus had gotten up early to prepare some hangover tea for Emma.

He hadn't actually slept much,

The night before, something kept running through his mind.

What was that strange, heightened state he had experienced during the script read-through?

"Could it be something like a sixth sense?"

Rufus could clearly feel that when he focused deeply, it was as though he became one with the character!

In those moments, he was Spider-Man.

But as soon as he left the set, that mysterious state disappeared entirely.

He was back to being just Rufus Harding.

Today's shoot would be the perfect opportunity to test whether that "character possession" could happen again.

If he could truly embody the character during filming...

Rufus was already thinking about the possibilities.

"Scene 1, Take 1, Shot 1, Time 1..."

"Action!"

Marc Webb, sitting in the director's chair, called out:

The clapperboard snapped down expertly,

"Spider-Man," a project that had been in development for years, was finally rolling!

Peter Parker, played by Rufus Harding, skated down the school corridors on a skateboard. His movements were so smooth and confident that the actresses on set couldn't help but watch him, their eyes glued to his every move.

After exiting the school building and stepping onto the campus, Peter Parker spotted Gwen Stacy immediately!

Gwen, played by Emma Stone, sat quietly on the grass;

Her knee-high boots accentuated her long, slender legs.

She looked so striking that Peter couldn't resist pulling out his camera to capture the moment.

At the same time, a luxurious Rolls-Royce slowly pulled up to the school gate.

Harry Osborn, played by James Franco, stepped out.

"Peter!"

"Hey, Harry, you're here."

"Harry, you forgot your backpack."

Then, the "Old Green Goblin," played by veteran actor Willem Dafoe, entered the frame.

"Peter, this is my father..."

"Mr. Osborn, it's an honor to meet you."

"Peter," Osborn smiled, stepping forward to shake Peter's hand.

"I've known about you for quite some time. Harry's told me a lot about you. It seems you have a real knack for science."

"I read your research report on nanotechnology and genetic engineering. Quite impressive."

"It's admirable. Your parents must be very proud of you..."

"Okay, okay, let's catch up later; we've got class to get to."

Harry, the younger Osborn, cut off their conversation, dragging Peter toward the school building.

"I hope we get a chance to chat more soon."

The older Osborn watched Peter Parker walk away with a thoughtful expression.

"Cut!"

Director Marc Webb picked up the megaphone and shouted,

Everyone on set froze, unsure of what was coming next.

But then Marc Webb grinned broadly:

"That was fantastic! The first take was perfect! Take a 3-minute break, and we'll set up for the next shot!"

"Awesome!"

The actors on set let out a collective sigh of relief; it looked like things were off to a great start.

Director Marc Webb was even more relieved.

The first sequence was a complicated long shot.

Filming outdoors in an open environment,

With multiple characters, numerous extras, and plenty of dialogue.

Marc Webb had hoped to introduce several main characters in a single, fluid shot.

Emma Stone didn't have any lines in this scene, so that wasn't a concern;

James Franco and Willem Dafoe were seasoned actors, so there was no worry there.

The only concern was Rufus Harding,

A relatively new actor with little on-screen experience.

Since the casting was announced, there had been skepticism from the media and even within the studio.

Marc Webb was under a lot of pressure.

He had chosen to trust his instincts and Rufus's potential,

But he still had his doubts.

He was worried that the first scene would require dozens of takes,

Causing everyone to lose confidence in Rufus as Spider-Man.

To his surprise, Rufus had nailed it in one go!

His performance was flawless;

He perfectly captured the essence of Peter Parker as a high school student!

"Is this kid really a prodigy?"

Even the other actors were a little taken aback.

"I thought Rufus might stumble or forget his lines, but he's even more natural than I am. I was the one feeling a bit nervous at first."

James Franco chuckled, a bit self-deprecating.

Willem Dafoe, sipping on a Coke, glanced at Rufus and sighed:

"Honestly, I was hesitant about taking this role. A British Spider-Man? What's that all about?"

"But I'm glad I listened to my agent. This might turn out to be a good project after all."

Willem Dafoe had a feeling that this "Spider-Man" could turn out to be something special.

On the other side of the set, Rufus and Emma Stone were sitting together, chatting.

"So, how are you feeling? Handling your first day on set okay?"

"I don't know… during the shoot, I forgot about everything else and just got completely lost in the character."

"Wow, maybe you really do have a gift!"

Emma was genuinely happy for him;

After hearing about Rufus's journey, she truly hoped he would succeed in realizing his dream.

"Ladies and gentlemen, break's over! Get ready for the next shot!"

The assistant director called out with a megaphone,

"Spider-Man" had been delayed for years, and Sony Pictures was eager to make up for lost time.

Time was tight, and the pressure was high,

The entire crew was feeling the strain.

"Scene 1, Take 2, Shot 1!"

"Action!"

The moment the clapperboard snapped down, Rufus's mind suddenly cleared!

In that instant, he was no longer Rufus Harding!

He was Peter Parker!

"I am Spider-Man!"
