AXELLE

After showering, I slipped into the clothes that Miles' housekeeper had kindly dropped off for me earlier. Once dressed, I found myself standing in front of the dressing mirror, gazing at my reflection, wondering how my life had spiraled into this mess.

What was supposed to be the perfect birthday surprise with my husband had turned into a nightmare. Now, here I am, in the midst of a bitter divorce.

Taking a deep breath, I leaned closer to the mirror, staring at the bruises on my face and neck. I bit my lip, trying to hold back the flood of emotions. 

I walked out of the room, making my way downstairs in search of something to eat. After all, I'm only human, and despite everything that's happening around me, I still need to eat to keep going.
