Ronan reveled in the fear he instilled in others. It made him feel powerful. But seeing his mate recoil in fear when he touched her wasn't exactly the highlight of his day. If anything, it made his heart sink. For the first time, he felt a pang of guilt.
"Why do you look so nervous?" he asked softly, grazing his fingertips over her legs. She shivered under his touch. "I told you I'm not going to hurt you," he added, trying to soften his tone.
"I know, but I don't know how to trust you," she replied timidly.
Ronan picked up a lock of her hair and ran his fingers through it. "You can trust me this once. Just pretend like I'm Matthew," he suggested.
"That's stupid. Why would I do that? You guys are nothing alike other than your face being exactly the same," Sophia giggled, trying to lighten the mood. "Besides, Matthew always makes me feel comfortable unlike you."
