Chapter 79: The Friends to the End: Mew Vs Ritchie

(Not long ago.)

(Mew, Gary, and the other trainers had to choose who they're battling against.)

(When Mew turns and fishes out the choice of her battle.)

(she ends up battling her new friend, Ritchie.)

(Even though they plan to give it their all.)

(Mew is still feeling skeptical about battling a new friend.)

(Later that night, Mew is looking at the moon and stars with a sigh.)

(Tomo walks over and asks.)

Tomo: "Still a little skeptical about battling Ritchie?"

Mew: "I bit. I'm glad that Ritchie and I are planning to give our best, but for my first battle, I have to battle him,"

(Mew says.)

(Suddenly, Misty calls out.)

Misty: "Hey, Mew, check this out."

(Mew, Tomo, and the Pokemon turn to see Misty on the computer.)

(Mew asks.)

Mew: "What are you doing?"

Misty: "I clicked on the Pokemon League database, and it has lots of information about all the trainers, including Ritchie,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Something about Ritchie?"

(Mew asks, walking over.)

(Tomo and the others walk over to a peek.)

(On the computer, they can see all of Ritchie's information so far in the Pokemon League.)

Brock: "Ritchie won all four rounds without losing any Pokemon. This kid's amazing,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "Wow. I only lost one Pokemon out of my four rounds, and that's because I underestimated how strong that Bellsprout is."

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "Ritchie must be pretty tough,"

(Tomo says.)

Misty: "And Ritchie only used Four Pokemon. Butterfree, Charmander, Eevee and Pikachu,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Happy? Zippo? Sparky? And Lilac? He only used them?"

(Mew replies, surprised.)

Misty: "Who?"

(Misty says, confused.)

Mew: "Ritchie named his Pokemon. The Butterfree is named Happy. The Charmander is Zippo, Sparky is the Pikachu, and Eevee's name is Lilac,"

(Mew answers.)

Tomo: "Sounds cool that he named them,"

(Tomo says.)

Brock: "Yeah. Pikachu is an electric type. Charmander is a flame type. Eevee is a Normal Type. Lastly, Butterfree is a Bug and Flying type."

(Brock says.)

(Then turns to Mew.)

Brock: "They're almost the same kind of Pokemon you use, Mew."

Misty: "That means it all depends on which one's the better trainer,"

(Misty says.)

(Then turns to Mew.)

Misty: "But you have a lot more Pokemon than Ritchie, and used various different ones in your rounds, and Ritchie seems to only use the same ones, so they must be strong.

Mew: "In other words, without a plan, I'll be in trouble,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "So which Pokemon are you planning to use?"

(Tomo asks.)

(Mew places her hand on her chin and says.)

Mew: "Well with Butterfree being a Bug and Flying type. Flying, Fire, Electric, Fire, and Ice will have an effect. Pikachu is weak to ground types, and Charmander is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock."

Brock: "But you'll have to choose carefully. You can only have three Pokemon from this match."

(Brock says.)

Mew: "I know,"

(Mew says.)

(Throughout the night.)

(Mew has been thinking very hard on which Pokemon should Mew battle against.)

(Been thinking for the longest time.)

(even if it is her friend, she knows that she needs to give it her all.)

(And she knows Ritchie will do the same.)

(The next day.)

(Mew is already at the Pokemon Center.)

(and makes some arrangements to have her Pokemon.)

(switched to the ones she'll be using for her match.)

(Suddenly, she hears Ritchie's voice.)

Ritchie: "Excuse me, Miss. I'd like to pick up the Pokemon I left yesterday, please."

Nurse Joy: "I have them all right here waiting for you, Ritchie, and they're ready for your big battle today."

(Nurse Joy says.)

Ritchie: "Great. Thank you very much,"

(Ritchie says.)

Nurse Joy: "Good luck,"

(Nurse Joy says.)

Ritchie: "Thanks,"

(Ritchie says.)

(Mew smiles and walks over.)

Mew: "Hi Ritchie."

Ritchie: "Hey Mew,"

(Ritchie says.)

(Mew asks.)

Mew: "So um, are you ready for the match?"

(Then Ritchie says.)

Ritchie: "Listen, Mew, because we're friends, we should promise each other to make this the best battle that we've ever had."

Mew: "Okay. That's a promise, Ritchie,"

(Mew says with a happy nod.)

Ritchie: "I'll see you later at the stadium,"

(Ritchie says.)

Mew: "Okay Bye,"

(Mew says.)

(Ritchie then hurries off as he says.)

Ritchie: "Bye."

(Mew smiles and says.)

Mew: "That's right We agreed to give it our all."

(Suddenly, Nurse Joy says.)

Nurse Joy: "I think you're lucky to be battling a friend. Even if you don't win the match yourself, you can still be happy your friend won. That makes it nice."

Mew: "Yeah,"

(Mew says.)

Nurse Joy: "And I'm sure you and Ritchie will do your best,"

(Nurse Joy says.)

Mew: "We will,"

(Mew happily says.)

(Later on, Mew and the others have arrived at the stadium.)

(but the reason why they're here early is because some of their friends.)

(are battling before Mew and they want to see them.)

(battle the best they can and give it their all.)

(The first one to be battling is A.J who is battling against a trainer from Cerulean City.)

(A.J hasn't lost a single Pokemon, and the female trainer is on her last Pokemon.)

(At the battlefield, A.J is using his Sandshrew, while the female trainer is using a Vaporeon.)

(Normally, Sandshrew is weak against Water, but not A.J's.)

(A.J calls out.)

A.J: "Sandshrew, use your Take Down attack.

(The trainer calls out.)

The trainer: "Vaporeon, use Bubble Beam!"

(Vaporeon performs Bubble Beam.)

(but Sandshrew rolls into a ball and the attacks strike.)

(but the attack doesn't bother it at all.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "Wow. The Bubble Beam has no effect on Sandshrew, and it keeps going."

A.J: "Go for it, Sandshrew!"

(A.J calls out.)

(Sandshrew continues and performs the Take Down attack.)

(and strikes at Vaporeon.)

(Vaporeon falls and is knocked out.)

(The referee calls out.)

The referee: "Vaporeon is out. The winner of the match is Sandshrew."

The announcer: "And with the outstanding performance, A.J and his Sandshrew have defeated all of the trainer's Pokemon and are moving on to the next round,"

(The announcer says.)

(Sandshrew jumps into A.J's arms.)

(A.J says.)

A.J: "You were great, Sandshrew."

(Mew and her friends soon cheer for A.J and Sandshrew.)

(Next Joe is battling against a male trainer from Seafoam Island.)

(As of now, they're both down to one Pokemon.)

(and the battle they have will decide the winner.)

(Joe is using a Farfetch'd while the male trainer is using a Weepinbell.)

(The trainer calls out.)

The trainer: "Weepinbell, use Stun Spore!"

(Weepinbell then uses Stun Spore.)

Joe: "Farfetch'd, use Gust to blow away the spore!"

(Joe calls out.)

(Farfetch'd uses its wings to create a powerful wind and blows the Stun Spore away.)

(shocking the trainer and his Pokemon.)

(Then Joe calls out.)

Joe: "Now Farfetch'd use, Peck!"

(Farfetch'd charges and uses Peck multiple times.)

Joe: "Now, Furry Attack!"

(Joe calls out.)

(Farfetch'd continues to use Furry Attack and for the final blow.)

(smacks it with it's Leek.)

(Soon, Weepinbell is knocked out.)

(The Referee calls the results.)

The Referee: "Weepinbell is unable to battle, Farfetch'd wins. The winner is Joe."

The announcer: "Joe has made an incredible comeback to win this match and is moving on to the next round."

(The announcer says.)

(Joe smiles and congratulates Farfetch'd.)

(In the Locker room, Mew and Ritchie have their Pokemon ready for their match today.)

(They know that the next match is her against Ritchie.)

(Mew turns to Ritchie and says.)

Mew: "Goodluck Ritchie, may the best trainer win."

Ritchie: "You to Mew, may the best trainer win,"

(Ritchie says.)

(A little while later.)

(everyone in the audience, especially Misty, Brock, Tomo, and Gary watch, are rather anxious.)

(They know well that the next match is Mew and Ritchie, battling against each other.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "And now it's time for our Third Match…."

(Just then, Ritchie walks out from the left side.)

The announcer: "On the red side we have Ritchie from Fordomar City,"

(The announcer says.)

(Many people and trainers are cheering with excitement.)

(Soon, Mew walks out from the right side with Pikachu and Eevee on her shoulders.)

The announcer: "And on the green side, we have Mew from Pallet Town."

(The announcer says.)

(The crowd also cheers along with Mew's friends with excitement.)

(Ritchie and Mew walk towards their side of the battlefield.)

(They stare at each other with determined looks and calm smiles.)

(Mew nods her head and Ritchie nods his head.)

(They both decide that despite being friends, they are going to give it their wall.)

(The referee calls out.)

The referee: "Let's the battle… begin!"

(Ritchie throws his Pokeball and calls out.)

Ritchie: "Go, Happy!"

(With that, Happy the Butterfree comes out.)

(Mew throws her Pokeball and calls out.)

Mew: "I choose you, Pansear!"

(With that, Pansear comes out of his Pokeball.)

Ritchie: "A Pansear, huh,"

(Ritchie says, and brings out his Pokedex.)

(Dexter says.)

Dexter: "Pansear, the High Temp Pokemon. A Fire Type. This Pokémon lives in caves in volcanoes. The fire within the tuft on its head can reach 600 degrees Fahrenheit."

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "And it's Ritchie's Butterfree, Happy, and Mew's Pansear going head to head to start things off!"

(Indeed, both Pokemon charge and begin to attack each other.)

(Happy nails Pansear, but Pansear retaliates.)

(Soon, both of their attacks are going back and forth.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "Both Pokémon are launching a rapid flock of Poke attacks!"

(Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Happy, Sleep Powder attack!"

(Happy flaps its wings to put Pansear to sleep.)

(But Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Pansear, use Flamethrower!"

(Pansear then performs the attack.)

(and it counters and repels the Sleep Powder.)

(Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Now give it your Whirlwind Attack!"

(Happy then begins to flap its wings as hard as it can.)

(Pansear stands its ground from the harsh wind.)

Mew: "Pansear, stand your ground!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Pansear nods his head as he hangs on.)

(Then Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Alright Happy, Double Edge!"

(Happy then begins to perform Double Edge.)

(Pansear quickly dodge the attack.)

(Happy performs again, and Pansear dodges.)

(When Happy uses the attack a third time, it ends up hitting Pansear on the side.)

(Luckily, Pansear is able to land on the ground, and only has a scratch on the side.)

(Mew quickly calls out.)

Mew: "Quick Pansear, use Flame Burst!"

(Pansear then begins to use Flame Burst with full force.)

(and is able to nail Butterfree and consume it in fire.)

(Soon, Butterfree has been burned and falls to the ground with a dizzy expression.)

(Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Happy!"

(The referee looks at Butterfree that is out and says.)

The referee: "Butterfree is unable to battle, Pansear is the winner!"

(On the screen, it shows that Ritchie has lost one Pokemon, and only has two more.)

The announcer: "Wow. Talk about a counter attack. And now, Ritchie only has two Pokemon left to play with!"

(The announcer says.)

Ritchie: "Just two Pokémon left Okay."

(Ritchie says to himself, and calls back Happy into its Pokeball.)

(He then brings out his second Pokeball and says.)

Ritchie: "Now it looks like I'll have to fight fire with fire! Zippo, go!"

(With that, Zippo comes out and it's a Charmander.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Hey Pansear, want to take this battle too?"

(Pansear nods his head in reply.)

(Soon, it becomes a two Fire Pokemon Battle.)

(Just then, Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Pansear, watch out!"

(Pansear turns to see Charmander is using a Flamethrower and begins to attack.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Pansear, use Flamethrower!"

Ritchie: "Zippo, use Flamethrower too!"

(Ritchie calls out.)

(With that, both Pokemon perform the attack.)

(and they both counter with one another.)

The announcer: "Both Pansear and Charmander used Flamethrower at the same time! Can they keep this up?"

(The announcer says.)

(Just then, they both stop their Flamethrower and soon begin to attack.)

(Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Zippo, use your Scratch Attack!"

Mew: "Pansear, use Fury Swipe!"

(Mew calls out.)

(With that, both Fire Type Pokemon begin to attack each other with their Normal Type Attacks.)

(Then they both begin fighting and ramming at one another.)

(On the stands, Misty and the others are rather surprised to see how this is turning out.)

Misty: "Wow Talking about a flaming battle,"

(Misty says.)

Tomo: "Pansear and Zippo are really fighting out there,"

(Tomo says.)

Brock: "Yeah. I wonder how Mew is going to beat Zippo with Pansear."

(Brock says.)

Gary: "I have to wonder what Ritchie's last Pokemon is if she manages to beat it,"

(Gary says.)

Brock: "You're right. We know the four Pokemon Ritchie mainly uses, but it might be a problem if Ritchie pulls a surprise on Mew."

(Brock says.)

Gary: "Hmm. Yeah. But I know Mew will figure something out,"

(Gary says.)

(Tomo smiles.)

Tomo: "Yeah. Mew can do it."

(Just then, Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Zippo, use Flame Wheel!"

(With that, Zippo performs Flame wheel and charges towards Pansear.)

Mew: "Quick Pansear, use Fire Blast!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Pansear then performs the Fire Blast as the Flame Wheel is close to it.)

(When both attacks interact, it releases a flaming explosion.)

(Everyone watches and waits to see what has happened as the smoke and fire disappear.)

(To Mew, Ritchie, and everyone's shock, both Fire Type Pokemon are knocked out.)

(The referee calls out.)

The referee: "Both Pokemon are unable to continue."

(With that, Mew has only two Pokemon, and Ritchie is down to his last one.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "Unbelievable! both Pokemon ended up being knocked out. Now Mew only has two Pokemon, and Ritchie is down to his final Pokemon."

(Ritchie then brings out his Pokeball.)

Ritchie: "Return Zippo!"

Mew::"You did great, Pansear. Return,"

(Mew says, and calls it back to his Pokeball.)

(Ritchie says.)

Ritchie: "I only have one Pokemon left. I have to make this count."

(Ritchie then brings out his final Pokeball and calls out.)

Ritchie: "Go Aqua!"

(With that, Richie's last and final Pokemon isn't Sparky or Lilac, but it's really…)

Mew, Misty, Brock, and Tomo: "A Tentacool?!"

(Mew, Misty, Brock, and Tomo say in surprise.)

(Even Pikachu and Eevee are surprised.)

Pikachu and Eevee: "Eevee?/Pika" (Tentacool?)

(Confused, Mew says in thought.)

Mew [in mind]: "Tentacool, huh. I never expected that."

Mew: "Tentacool are weak to Ground Type and Electric Types. Still, I shouldn't be too hasty. I can use Pikachu or Sandshrew. Yet, I need to make this count because I have two Pokemon."

(Mew says.)

(She then says.)

Mew: "It's a risk, but I have a feeling I can pull this out."

(Mew then brings out her Pokeball and calls out.)

Mew: "Sandshrew, I choose you!"

(With that, Sandshrew comes out of its Pokeball.)

(Misty and the others are surprised to see Sandshrew on the battlefield.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "Ritchie has chosen Tentacool and Mew is going with Sandshrew. This is going to be an interesting battle."

(On the stand, Misty says.)

Misty: "That's a surprise, I thought Mew would choose Pikachu."

Tomo: "Yeah. Pikachu can beat Tentacool,"

(Tomo says.)

Brock: "Maybe, but it's also good to use Sandshrew in some cases. But it's a risk. Sandshrew is a Ground Type and weak to Water Types. However, Tentacool is weak against Ground Types. It's going to come down to who battles better."

(Brock says.)

(The referee waves the flags and says.)

The referee: "Begin!"

(Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Bubble Beam!"

(With that, Aqua fires the Bubble Beam.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Sandshrew, dodge and use Rollout!"

(Sandshrew begins to dodge the attack as it performs Rollout.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Water Pulse!"

(Ritchie calls out.)

(Aqua then performs Water Pulse and strikes at Sandshrew.)

(Sandshrew rolls and is feeling a little soak.)

Mew: "Are you okay, Sandshrew?"

(Mew asks.)

(Sandshrew shakes the water and nods his head in reply.)

Mew: "Great Then let's do our best,"

(Mew says

(Then calls out.)

Mew: "Sandshrew, use take down."

(Sandshrew then charges and prepares to do a Take Down attack.)

(But Ritchie says.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Water Gun!"

(Aqua then begins to perform the Water Gun Attack.)

(Sandshrew then runs as it dodges the attack.)

(Aqua continues to fire the Water Gun.)

(as Sandshrew continues to dodge the attack and not making it easy for it to attack.)

(Then jumps up and rolls into a ball.)

(Then with that, strikes at Aqua with full force.)

(Aqua falls and is able to get up.)

(Sandshrew then lands on the ground, but ends up slipping a bit.)

(Mew and Ritchie notice that the battlefield is soaked with water.)

(and some parts of the battlefield looks like mud.)

The announcer: "This is a surprise, the multiple Water Gun attacks has the battlefield soaked and it might make it slipper for Sandshrew to get around,"

(The announcer says.)

(Ritchie then calls out.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Sludge Bomb!"

Mew: "Dodge!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Aqua begins to perform Sludge Bomb and Sandshrew quickly moves out of the way.)

(Just then, Sandshrew slips on the water and falls to the ground.)

Mew: "Sandshrew, are you okay?"

(Mew asks.)

(Sandshrew stands and shakes himself.)

(He is still up for a battle.)

(But then, Ritchie calls out.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Wrap!"

(Before Sandshrew can reach.)

(Aqua has Sandshrew wrapped around its tentacles.)

Mew: "Sandshrew!"

(Mew says shocked.)

The announcer: "Wow! Tentacool has Sandshrew trapped in it's Wrap attack!"

(The announcer says.)

(At the stand, Misty says.)

Misty: "If Mew loses this match, she'll have to change Pokemon."

Tomo: "How is Sandshrew going to get out of this?"

(Tomo asks.)

Brock: "I don't know,"

(Brock replies.)

(Gary simply watches Mew and wonders how Mew is going to win this match.)

(and how she's going to help Sandshrew get out of this.)

Mew: "If I don't do something, Sandshrew will end up getting poisoned by this Aqua. There has to be some way for Sandshrew to slip out of…"

(Mew thinks.)

(But has an idea, Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Sandshrew, use Rapid Spin!"

(Sandshrew curls up into a ball and begins to spin as fast as it can.)

(Aqua is struggling to hang on.)

Ritchie: "Hang in there, Aqua!"

(Ritchie calls out.)

(But Aqua continues to struggle to hang on.)

The announcer: "Look at that, despite being trapped, Sandhrew continues to use a Rapid Spin and Tentacool is unable to hold on for much longer!"

(The announcer says.)

(And soon enough.)

(Sandshrew is able to break free and smacks Aqua on the head.)

(Aqua falls back and is barely hanging on.)

(Sandshrew is able to break free, lands on the ground, and uncurls itself.)

(Mew happily says.)

Mew: "You did it, Sandshrew!"

Sandshrew: "Sandshrew," (Sure did.)

(Sandshrew says.)

(Suddenly, Sandshrew begins to glow.)

(catching everyone especially Mew and her friends by surprise.)

(Soon, Sandshrew begins to change his shape.)

(At the stand, Misty asks in surprise.)

Misty: "Brock is Sandshrew…"

Brock: "Yeah. Sandshrew is evolving,"

(Brock answers.)

(Sandshrew begins to grow and gain very sharp claws.)

(Soon, Sandshrew has evolved right in front of everyone in the stadium.)

Mew: "Sandshrew evolved into Sandslash!"

(Mew says, happily.)

Pikachu: "Pika! Pika," (Wow! Sandshrew evolved!)

(Pikachu says.)

Eevee: "Eevee!" (It's Sandslash!)

(Eevee says.)

(The announcer says.)

The announcer: "Wow Folks, this is sure to be an unexpected turn around. Sandshrew is able to break free from tentacool's wrap and suddenly evolves. Mew sure is full of surprises!"

Ritchie: "Must admit, that caught me by surprise, but we still have a battle to finish,"

(Ritchie calls out.)

Mew: "Right!"

(Mew says.)

(Ritchie then calls out.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Bubble Beam!"

Mew: "Quick Sandslash, dodge!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Instead, Sandslash then uses an attack that creates a large amount of Sand.)

(almost like a large tomb tornado of sand.)

(With that, Sandslash aims the attack at Aqua and surpasses the Bubble Beam.)

(Then Aqua is caught in the attack.)

Gary: "That's Sand Tomb!"

(Gary says from the stand.)

(Mew says, amazed.)

Mew: "You learned a new move!"

(Sandslash nods his head.)

(Aqua is barely able to stand, but is able to fight.)

Ritchie: "Aqua, use Poison Jab!"

(Ritchie calls out

(With that, Aqua charges for the attack.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Sandslash, use Slash!"

(Sandslash charges for the attack.)

(The two Pokemon charge towards each other and it looks like the attack that will decide the winner.)

(With that, they both end up striking at each other with the attack.)

(Once done, they both stand beside each other.)

(Everyone waited anxiously on the result.)

(Just then, Aqua collapses and is soon knocked down.)

(The referee looks at Aqua and sees it knocked out.)

(Then the referee announces.)

the referee: "Tentacool is unable to battle, Sandslash wins! Mew is the victor!"

The announcer: "What an outstanding battle! Mew is able to make a turn around and win her match!"

(The announcer says.)

(Sandslash runs to Mew and Mew kneels down and hugs him.)

(She happily says.)

Mew: "You were great Sandslash! You won your battle and evolved, and you learned a new move!"

Sandslash: "Sandslash Sandslash," (We're both great, Mew!)

(Sandslash happily says.)

Mew: "Maybe, but you're the winner today."

(Mew says.)

(Ritchie is disappointed that he lost, but he smiles and says.)

Ritchie: "Well, we gave it our all."

(Then returns Aqua to her Pokeball.)

(Ritchie then walks to Mew who is in the middle of hugging.)

(Mew looks up to see Ritchie.)

(Mew lets go of the embrace and stands up.)

(He holds his hand out and says with a smile.)

Ritchie: "I guess I lost. Congratulations Mew. You really gave me an amazing battle."

Mew: "Thanks Ritchie You did too,"

(Mew says.)

(She then takes Ritchie's hand and they both shake on it.)

(Everyone, including Misty and the others clap and cheer.)

(to see the two trainers shaking their hands with smiles and congratulate each other with a smile.)

The announcer: "Now that's what being a trainer is all about. Mew and Ritchie shake hands and they put on a match they'll never forget!"

(The announcer says.)

(Mr. Goodshow sees it and smiles.)

Mr. Goodshow: "He is right. That is what being a trainer is all about whether they win or lose."

(Sometime later, Mew and the others are watching the rest of the matches.)

(They soon see Otoshi with his match.)

(Otoshi has Marowak at the battlefield and his opponent as a Dodrio.)

(At the end, Otoshi and Marowak are victorious in this match.)

(Then, they see Nurse Joy from Fuchsia City.)

(She uses her Pokemon, and surprisingly, the Pokemon she also has out is Chansey.)

(and at the end, she and Chansey move on to the next match.)

(Lastly, Gary is battling against another trainer who is using a Scyther.)

(Gary however is using his Arcanine.)

(The two Pokemon battle hard and the two trainers are down to one Pokemon.)

(At the end, Gary is able to win his match, and moves up.)

(As a result of the next round of the competition: A.J vs. Joe.)

(Mew is against a female trainer.)
