"Thank you," I said, looking at my mother who nodded.
"I am not okay with this, don't think that I am. But if she is going to be part of this family, then she might as well start acting like one. The ring is going to be the beginning of it." She said, and I sighed, knowing not to argue. Audrey should be coming down at any given moment, and I didn't want her to hear any of this conversation. Plus, we already had enough of it, I doubted that hurting her was going to do us any better.
Flashback:
"You called for me, mama?" I asked, and she nodded. Her back was to me as she stood, facing the window.
She held her hand to her chest, not saying a word for a few seconds, and though dad was in the room, he didn't say a word. He just sat on the edge of the bed, waiting and watching, clearly wanting to see how this was going to turn out.
