บท 10: The new heir?
Like any normal person, Asahi too entered the company through the main gate, only to be stopped by the guard.
"Are you here for an appointment, sir?" The guard had a stern face. He wore navy blue pants and a shirt.
"Indeed," Asahi replied. He appeared distant, just like any other young person during his university days.
"For which department?" The man asked. Asahi stepped inside the building, and the cool air inside the building made him feel at peace.
"The administration," he shortly replied while enjoying the coolness. There were still a few more days until autumn, and although the days had become a bit cooler through the rain, alas, the summer was still scorching hot.
"That way then, sir. Go straight and turn to the right." The guard gave him the direction, and Asahi gave a small bow to the man and headed towards the elevator section.
The lobby had around ten people whom Asahi assumed were the dealers and such, or perhaps the employees. The button on the elevator was counted in descending order: "3—--2—--1—-0-"
Finally, the door opened, and he headed inside the tiny and stuffy elevator. His head almost reached the top portion, so he bent his back slightly.
'Why did you take orders from a person lower in hierarchy? That's such a disgrace. He could once again hear Kuro's voice.
' It's the same as how I treat you as an equal, despite you being my servant' He replied while the cat clicked its tongue distastefully, signifying its disapproval.
'At such a rate, you will never fulfill the revenge you want. It's this softness that will hinder you. Kuro stressed its words, which irked Asahi. The statement 'You will never' he hated it from the bottom of his heart.
Trivializing his efforts and his potential;
'Only time will tell,' he replied. His lips gaped slightly as he truly wished to raise his voice and anguish the feeling. Kuro had a slight smirk, and then it went back to hibernation. Meanwhile, Asahi continued to suppress his emotions and walked out of the elevator.
He was on the top floor, where the meeting room for the board members was situated. Two of the guards were situated before the door. The men dressed in fitted suits entered, and along with them, Asahi too entered.
The meeting room was filled with people who were at least two decades older than him. Some of them had taken their seats while most of them were finding their seats. They all had their eyes on Asahi, who had a peculiar dress and yet had the audacity even to enter the private meeting of the company.
Despite the odd stares, he simply made his way towards the head of the table and took his seat, where Mr. Ito Ichiro should have been. All the people in the room closely monitored his appearance and body language, realizing that he was the only living relative of the founding direction of "Mizuiru.".
Soon, the board of directors took their seats in the right order, and the managing director, Mr. Yamamoto Kenta, stood from his seat and opened the board meeting.
"We are very sorry to have organized this meeting on such short notice. Due to the demise of the founding director, we had to hold this special meeting among the board members for the upcoming changes as per the will of Mr. Ito Ichiro." Yamamoto San gave the short gist of the meeting.
The members all sharply held their eyes on the newbie while also carefully listening to the MD's words.
"I shall first read the will of Mr. Ito in the presence of his lawyer, Mr. Tanaka. Mr. Ito wishes to leave this company to his only living grandchild, Ito Asahi. He shall be taking the place of Mr. Ito, and since he is already an adult, he further suggests that the company is in capable hands." Yamamoto San concluded.
In the meantime, Asahi wished to press his temples. His old man had left too many responsibilities upon him!!
"If so, then why had he not taken the position and led the team once Mr. Ito had demised? It is very unprofessional behavior, and we are not sure whether such a young person could lead the growing company." The current CEO, Mrs. Nakamura Yuuma, voiced her opinion.
"That would be very unethical of me, Mrs. Nakamura," Asahi answered almost immediately. The words said by Kuro pinched a part of him, and he didn't like his hasted self.
The room went completely silent, waiting for the countering of the new heir, and so Asahi held a professional smile and, in a low but unbiased voice, confronted.
"Although I have been made the heir by my grandfather, it would be unfair of me to step out of nowhere. As of now, I have fulfilled all the legal documents and have proved my right to stay in this seat."
"Very well. We have you; you shall lead the team well."
Mrs. Nakamura remarked. She could tell well that it was Asahi's very first time in front of the board members with the way he had haste in his voice. It was subtle, but she had noticed; after all, when she had attended the funeral, she couldn't help but be amazed by his calmness.
All the members who wanted Asahi to back off had their lips tightly shut when even the CEO approved. The meeting was short and required very little of Asahi's presence. Once Asahi sorted out all the board members's feelings by assuring them that he would lead the team to greater heights, the meeting ended.
"Does it mean that I can expect to meet you every day, FD Ito?" Nakamura San playfully inquired while getting out of her seat.
"Sure, Mrs. Nakamura." Asahi's lips slightly curled up, and he shook hands with her and left the building. Now that this was out of the way, he only needed to concentrate on a few other things, like making a poison suitable to experiment on Kuo.
He sneered at his thoughts.
'Perhaps the green jade poison's new variation might work.'
