บท 61: Chp-61: Orochimaru's Control Experiment

After resting for two days, Hyuga Satoru's body had recovered from the hollow feeling. Externally, he no longer appeared as listless as before. Once he was ready, he decided to seek out Orochimaru.

Hyuga Satoru did not know Orochimaru's exact location. For a cunning snake like him, he often stayed in hidden laboratories, always elusive. However, Hyuga Satoru had another way to find him.

Anko.

The reason he had made close contact with Anko back then was largely to use her to get close to Orochimaru. Now, this had finally paid off.

...

Knock, knock!

A few knocks came from outside the house. Anko felt puzzled; it shouldn't be Orochimaru-sensei at this hour. Who could it be?

Opening the door, she saw a familiar figure and immediately felt delighted.

"Satoru! Is it you? Have you completed your mission?"

"Yes," Hyuga Satoru nodded, smiling. "I just returned two days ago."

Anko had changed a lot. In just a few months, her biofield had become much stronger, and her chakra had significantly increased. Orochimaru was indeed teaching her diligently, Hyuga Satoru thought to himself.

"Anko, I'm here to ask for your help. Do you know where Orochimaru-sama is? I need to find him," Hyuga Satoru said directly.

"Orochimaru-sensei?" Anko put her hand on her chin, thinking for a moment. "At this time... he should be at the lab."

After a brief hesitation, she looked up. "I'll take you there."

...

The air was quite damp in the dark sewer. Every few steps, they could hear water droplets falling from the narrow ceiling, making a splashing sound.

"Anko, are you sure? Is Orochimaru really here?" Hyuga Satoru asked as he wrapped his coat tighter. This path wasn't just dark and damp; it was also very cold. His voice echoed through the pipes, coming back to his ears.

Anko hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, Orochimaru-sensei spends a lot of time in this lab every day, but he doesn't seem to like me visiting him there."

That was why she hesitated at first, but since it was Satoru's first time asking for her help, she decided to bring him along.

Hyuga Satoru suddenly remembered. In the original story, Sarutobi Hiruzen discovered Orochimaru conducting human experiments in a dark sewer similar to this. This might be his secret lab, although, at this time, he likely hadn't started human experiments yet.

After a while, a glimmer of light came from the exit ahead, and the space opened up.

In front of them was a row of shelves filled with various jars and containers, some containing biological tissues that Hyuga Satoru couldn't identify.

Orochimaru was intently observing something through a microscope, his back to Hyuga Satoru.

"Anko, I told you not to come here unless it's important, didn't I?" his raspy voice echoed.

Anko glanced at Hyuga Satoru and said, "Orochimaru-sensei, Satoru is here to see you."

Orochimaru's back stiffened slightly before he turned around and smiled at Hyuga Satoru. "It seems I was too engrossed to notice Satoru-kun's arrival."

Hyuga Satoru smiled and said, "Orochimaru-sama, I wonder what experiment has you so captivated?"

"Comparing two extraordinary types of cells," Orochimaru replied with admiration. "I've never seen such fascinating cells before. One type has superhuman vitality, dividing rapidly even decades after leaving the body. The other type is equally remarkable, with cell lifespan and function far exceeding regular cells."

Hyuga Satoru had a hunch about what he meant.

Orochimaru looked at Anko. "Anko, you may leave. I need to talk to Satoru-kun privately."

After Anko left, Orochimaru's eyes gleamed with a bit more fervour as he stared at Hyuga Satoru.

Hyuga Satoru thought to himself that it was fortunate he had waited until his body had recovered before coming. If he had come two days earlier, looking so weak, Orochimaru might have had some other ideas.

Feeling uneasy under Orochimaru's intense gaze, Hyuga Satoru changed the subject. "Orochimaru-sama, could you explain the comparison between these two types of cells in more detail?"

Orochimaru's raspy laugh filled the room. "Satoru-kun must have figured it out. The first type is the cells of Hashirama Senju, containing immense vitality. The second type... naturally, it's your cells."

"Although your cells don't possess the same vigorous vitality or rapid division, their activity, energy conversion efficiency, and lifespan far surpass ordinary cells."

"In comparison, Hashirama's cells seem rather simple."

"I originally thought Satoru-kun's physique was the result of atavism, but now it seems it's not entirely that. It's more like a special kind of evolution."

Hyuga Satoru understood Orochimaru's point.

Atavism, but not entirely. Just then, Orochimaru continued, sighing in admiration. "I finally understand why Satoru-kun became the first dual Kekkei Genkai user in Hyuga history."

Hyuga Satoru felt a twinge of anxiety and asked tentatively, "Is that so?"

Orochimaru paused, then sighed again. "The Hyuga clan is one of the oldest clans in the ninja world. It's natural for some anomalies to occur during inheritance. This change likely began during the embryonic stage. Satoru-kun is very fortunate to have embodied this change and successfully been born, continuously adapting to it throughout his growth. Truly fascinating..."

Orochimaru rambled on, sighing with admiration after every sentence.

Hyuga Satoru felt speechless.

Self-promotion was the deadliest. Orochimaru spouted a lot of stuff without hitting the mark.

Genetic mutation, again.

But thinking about it, it made sense. The ninja world had produced scientific geniuses like Orochimaru and medical geniuses like Tsunade, but it hadn't produced someone like Michael Faraday, who discovered electromagnetic induction.

Maybe there was someone, but they were just ordinary people who hadn't caught the attention of ninjas.

Overall, the understanding and application of electromagnetism in the ninja world were quite crude.

Orochimaru was indeed a scientific genius, but his conclusions were limited by the knowledge and systems of his world.

Hyuga Satoru thought for a while, bringing his thoughts back to the present, and looked at Orochimaru. "Orochimaru, I've come to borrow your laboratory."

"Laboratory?" Orochimaru pondered for a moment, then smiled. "It seems Satoru-kun can't wait to break free from his constraints."

What could Satoru need that required his lab? The Caged Bird Seal! Orochimaru thought. He didn't expect Satoru to come to him on his own.

But it was just as well. Mutual needs make for long-term cooperation.

Orochimaru didn't care about the thoughts of the clan. In fact, as long as it was for the sake of immortality, he didn't care about anything, even if it meant conducting forbidden human experiments.
