บท 33: Frieren Little Sister?

Here's today bonus chapter, enjoy~~

————————

"Berdewin, look, Aura has two horns. Aren't they pretty~"

"Horns? Yeah, they're quite pretty."

Berdewin didn't turn around; he continued staring at the half-chopped dead tree, casually responding to Frieren's boastful tone. Clearly, he wasn't taking her enthusiasm to heart.

Frieren, sounding somewhat peeved, moved closer and asked:

"Berdewin, what are you doing?"

"Chopping wood."

"I've mastered my magic."

"That's impressive, Frieren."

"Let me help you chop off the rest."

"Sure, with a cutting spell?"

"No, with a burning spell: Verheiz."

"Huh?"

Berdewin's eyes widened in surprise, but it was too late for Aura to stop it.

Boom!!!

A raging fire tornado rose from the ground, covering the entire dead tree. It was compressed and restricted by the barrier-like magical power, and continued to soar and surge in the long cylindrical narrow space, with terrifying flames.

Crackle!

The area Frieren targeted couldn't withstand the heat and pressure, causing the wood to char and splinter. Instead of neatly severed pieces, the tree was reduced to a mass of shattered, blackened fragments.

Aura grabbed Frieren and ran.

Her face was ashen.

'Damn it! Damn it! Frieren must not understand the characteristics of demon magic!'

In her panic, Aura realized the danger Frieren's magic posed. Unlike human fire spells, which were stable and controlled, demon fire spells were volatile, adhesive, and had a natural tendency to spread uncontrollably. Frieren, having learned magic from the demon race, had inadvertently incorporated these dangerous traits into her spellcasting, even if she attempted to use normal magic from other sources.

"Aura, why are we running?"

"..."

"Is there something wrong with my spell?"

"You did fine."

"Then is there something wrong with the magic you taught me?"

"It's just that I like to run away."

"Strange hobby."

"Running away isn't fun, but it works."

"I don't understand."

"One day you'll need it, and then you'll understand."

"Oh." Frieren responded simply, her expression thoughtful.

When they had put enough distance between themselves and the angry shouts of the elf Berdewin, Aura put down Frieren who was tucked under her armpit, and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

Thanks to her demon strength, Aura could carry Frieren this far; otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten away together.

Frieren held Aura's hand and led her towards the next elf residence they needed to visit.

After following Frieren for a while, Aura roughly understood the order in which Frieren took her to visit the elves. It was to start with the oldest. The first one was the blonde elf Sibele, who was at the level of a second-class mage and was the oldest elf in the village.

But even though she is old, she is weak.

Despite her age, Sibele's magical abilities were modest. In contrast, Frieren, who was only a few hundred years old, had already surpassed Sibele in magical prowess.

Of course, this was not because Aura had given Frieren a detailed explanation of magic - at least if you asked Aura, she would stubbornly deny it.

"You possess a talent that even demons fear, Frieren." Aura followed behind Frieren, quietly observing her every move.

Frieren had no guard up around Aura, exposing her back and neck. If Aura wanted to kill her, it should be easy for her to do so.

However, with the obedience magic in place, she couldn't kill Frieren.

'This feeling is really annoying.'

With a sigh, Aura had no choice but to follow Frieren and go with her to visit the elves in the village one by one.

Aura never expected that the entire village would be full of stupid people like Frieren, with not a hint of wariness towards a demon.

'Perhaps it's because Frieren has been constantly talking about me in their ears.'

'Making all the elves familiar with me.'

It seemed that Frieren's constant chatter about her had desensitized the villagers. Each elf they encountered reacted with surprising indifference when Frieren introduced Aura, as if they had already heard about her numerous times.

Their path led them to a cultivated field, lush with greenery and neatly arranged rows. Aura wondered if they were planted with potatoes or some other crop.

An elf with the appearance of a young girl was kneeling in the field, carefully removing weeds.

Compared to the blonde elf they visited earlier, this girl looked more like Frieren, with white hair as well.

Aura guessed she might be a relative of Frieren's.

But it doesn't matter whether they are related or not.

Elves, like demons, are a species with very weak family bonds.

Being related by blood in demon race does not mean that one has the responsibility to help each other like human brothers and sisters. It just more like a familiar stranger they see often. Aura speculated that the elves would be same like the demons.

"Elsa, this is my demon friend! She has beautiful horns."

Upon hearing Frieren's voice, Elsa gave up pulling the weeds and turned around.

Her gaze meets Frieren's for a moment and soon fell on the figure of Aura behind her.

Oh, mainly because of her horns that resembled crescent rolls.

Elsa's eyes sparkled.

"They look delicious!"

Aura quickly covered her horns, sweat dripping from her forehead.

"My horns don't taste good at all!"

"I bit them once; they're too hard and really not tasty," Frieren shook her head, describing to Elsa the feeling of biting Aura's horns.

"It's hard, like pebbles, and feels good to the touch, but it doesn't taste good at all."

"Is that so? That's such a shame."

Elsa looked at Aura's horns with regret, swallowing a bit.

Living far from human settlements and their diverse cuisines, Elsa's memory of tasting a delicious, buttery bread was several years ago.

"It looks delicious, but it's a pity that we can't eat it."

"Right? I thought so too. Why can't it be eaten when it looks so tasty?"

Two white-haired elves squatted in front of Aura and began to discuss how to eat the two horns on her head.

Aura stood there alone, her eyes filled with fear and terror, wanting to escape at any moment.

But she was constrained by Frieren's order to "accompany me to visit the village and introduce Aura to all the elves", so she stood there unable to move.

Her body trembled, desperately trying to protect her horns, but knowing she couldn't resist Frieren, Aura could only silently shed tears.

'So cute!'

Even Elsa, who usually showed little interest in anything, couldn't resist wanting to bully her.

Just like that, Aura walked out of the field with her horn having shallow teeth marks on it, and Frieren behind her did not forget to comfort her.

"It was a light bite. It's okay, Aura. The tooth mark will disappear after a while."

"Boohoo—"

Aura, who escaped death, was still shedding tears and wiping them away desperately, but she could not hide her joy of surviving the disaster.
