บท 7: Saving a Friend, Cindy Moon!

It was a bright day, and the sun was high in the sky, casting long shadows between the towering buildings of New York City. Sol swung through the city as he quietly surveyed his surroundings. He was still figuring out how this whole "vigilante" thing worked, and frankly, it wasn't as easy as it looked in the comics.

He needed information about Silas Crane, but shaking down random criminals wasn't exactly something he was used to. Still, there was no turning back now.

Suddenly, his sharp senses picked up a disturbance nearby. A muffled cry, the sound of a struggle.

Instinctively, he followed the noise, making his way toward a narrow alley.

There, he spotted an old man, grey hair disheveled and leaning on a cane, cornered by a guy holding a knife. The mugger was practically drooling, too busy scaveneging through the old man's pockets to notice Sol's arrival.

Sol dangled upside down from the roof, suspended by a thin, black strand of web like a spider. Sol sighed and shook his head. "I know New York's tough, but robbing old folks? Really? C'mon, man."

The mugger spun around, eyes wide in panic, his grip on the knife faltering as he took in the sight of this nightmarish figure hanging in front of him. "W-who the hell are you?" he stammered, his voice shaky.

Sol flipped himself and landed back on the ground. His voice, though calm, carried a sense of authority. "Me? Just a guy who's had a long week. Now, if you could be so kind and drop the knife and save us the trouble, I'd really appreciate it."

The mugger blinked, clearly confused and nervous, but not backing down. "You don't scare me, freak!"

Sol raised an eyebrow, and with a flick of his wrist, a web shot out from his hand, latching onto the mugger's wrist, the knife clattering uselessly to the ground.

"Well, I tried." Sol muttered to himself.

Before the mugger could even process what happened, Sol shot another web at the roof of the building before attaching it to his right leg, hoisting the man off the ground and leaving him dangling upside down in the air.

"AHH! W-What the fuck! Help!" He screamed in panic.

The thug let out a scream as he swung helplessly, feet kicking wildly as he tried to free himself.

Sol crossed his arms, staring up at the panicked man. He was a little amused. The man was like a piñata. "Okay, two things. First, don't mess with old people. And second, let's talk. What do you know about Silas Crane?"

The mugger squirmed, trying to get a good look at Sol. "S-Silas who? Man, I don't know any Crane! I'm just trying to make a buck here, please let me go!"

Sol let out a sigh, shaking his head again. "Well, you're not exactly the guy I'm looking for then, but hey, at least you're learning something today."

The old man, who had been watching this unfold with wide eyes, finally spoke up. "You… you saved me, even though you look like… well…"

"Like something out of a horror movie?" Sol finished for him with a small grin beneath his mask. "Yeah, I already know."

The old man chuckled softly, he found the person wrapped in darkness quite easy-going. He surprised Sol with how calm he seemed. "Don't get me wrong, son. You may look a little... different, but you're alright in my book. Never been one to judge a man by his appearance. It's what you do that counts."

Sol nodded, a little taken aback by the man's words. He chuckled lightly. "Glad to hear it. Now, are you alright? I'm guessing this isn't the first time something like this has happened."

The old man waved his hand dismissively, though his smile faltered slightly. "This city… it's not what it used to be. Too many bad folks running around. People like that Silas Crane you mentioned. Heard the name whispered a few times, but I don't know much. Though, people like them tend to have a lot of power in this city. If you are after him, you must be careful."

Sol nodded. "Yeah, thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind. You better head home though. It'll be safer indoors."

The old man gave him a grateful nod before hobbling away, his cane tapping lightly against the pavement.

Sol glanced back up at the thug still hanging upside down, his face pale with terror.

"Okay, lesson's over. Go home and rethink your life choices." With a flick of his fingers, the web snapped, and the man fell to the ground with a thud. Before he could scramble to his feet and run, Sol webbed his legs together.

"Can't let you go that easy, though. Gotta leave a message for the cops."

Sol straightened up and checked his surroundings.

After doing everything, he decided to go find more criminals.

As he swung away, Sol couldn't help but smile slightly under his mask. Sure, he looked like a nightmare to most people, but at least he was slowly cleaning his city up.

...

A few hours later...

New York was currently being protected by a mysterious figure.

A vigilante, clad in darkness, was cleaning the filth of their city. Many had seen the person in action and had even recorded the vigilante swinging through the city — becoming a craze on social media!

Moreover, the police were becoming agitated due to this vigilante. He was doing their job for them! And much better!

In only a few hours, this vigilante had already beaten 23 criminals and 7 minor gangs. Moreover, he would wrap all of them like some kind of present and leave them for the police.

Corrupted cops were trying to get this vigilante arrested while the good cops felt embarrassed that a singular person was doing their job much better than them.

And for all the individuals he saved, they said he called himself Spider-Man, a friendly neighbourhood hero!

At this moment, Sol was swinging through the city. It was becoming a little darker, however, he still had a few hours before he had to go back.

After landing on the roof of the building, he paused as he surveyed around. After some time, he sighed. Why was finding some minor villain like Silas Crane so hard?

Sol had already interrogated over 50 people, but there was no information on this guy!

As Sol lost himself in his thoughts, a faint cry for help resounded. His senses sharpened, and in an instant, he pinpointed the direction as he immediately jumped to the scene.

Sticking to the wall and surveying, he saw a young girl with dark hair being surrounded by 4 men. Her face had an expression of fear as tears streaked down her cheeks. However, her vulnerable expression just made the men more excited.

Seeing this scene, Sol's eyes constricted.

He recognised the person being surrounded. She was a classmates of his and a close friend, Cindy Moon!

Sol didn't hesitate to intervene. Without a sound, Sol climbed higher above the men.

He focused on the thug furthest back.

Using a thread made of black silk, he silently lowered it down and looped it around the man's neck. With a sharp pull, he yanked him into the air. The thug barely had time to react as his face turned purple, his body struggling for breath as his legs violently spasmed, before his body eventually went limp.

Carefully, Sol released the silk and wrapped the man up in webbing, securing him to a nearby wall.

The other thugs were still oblivious to their friend's sudden disappearance as they were fixated on Cindy's body.

Sol's eyes darkened.

If one could see Sol's expression, they would feel chills. His face was cold and his eyes, like an icy lake, shone ominously.
