บท 29: Eleventh Night - Part 1 - Iron Will

The moon vanished and appeared his second death... the second bead.

It gave the darkness light and color, so when Renir opened his recovering eyes, he felt comfort at first then he saw bright deep blue!

His whole body slowly recovered as his torn skin came from the blue and accumulated on the surface of his bloodied body, forming layers of the skin.

All blood was suppressed and his pale skin came back to him.

His consciousness was at first, hazy and clouded. But just after a few seconds, it became clear for him to think.

'...I died again...', tears welled up in his eyes inside the white light that covered him from the cracking bead of revival, '...I don't want the light to disappear...'

But Renir knew if he did not move while he had the shield of light, he will suffer again to die once more.

At this thought, Renir was jolted with power, 'I need to get out of here!', he thought as he desperately looked around.

Renir was in the midst of suffering just earlier that he didn't know what way his body moved in that huge stomach.

Actually, he felt that the insides of the Water Sentinal were the whole stomach itself!

'This Water Sentinal is different from living beings after all...', Renir sadly thought but he didn't give up.

If only it was a painless and quick death, he would've let it but it took so long to kill him and he still has eight beads of revival!

There was no way he would accept that.

With a body that could move in the water effortlessly, Renir swam around to see thick walls on all sides.

On the last end he found, he gritted his teeth and punched that wall with all his might.

Thud!*

But it was so hard, Renir didn't even dent it!

Is there a feeling heavier than desperation? If there is, Renir was falling into it.

'No! There's still a way....', Renir then noticed the surroundings began to dim. He glanced and saw the second bead on his wrist full of cracks.

It was about to vanish...

His chest felt tighter and he felt he needed to breathe, 'Is there not a way anymore?'

When there was nothing to see on the walls, he saw the deep blue liquid that was like an acid, that slowly killed him and will slowly kill him once more.

'...I will experience that again?', Renir's mind was about to fall into insanity that he miraculously kept sane all these nights.

The darkness will devour him once again...

He had no left to escape...

And eventually, the bead broke into fragments and disappeared into the darkness but Renir forgot, like the first time he used the bead of revival, a huge wave of light came out when it was destroyed.

This light is not to heal the body but the soul and mind.

When Renir received the huge wave of light, it was as if he was exposed to fresh air as he took a deep breath, and his whole body rejuvenated.

His mind relaxed and his heartbeat eventually pulsated normally.

With such clarity that he experienced the second time, his thought became clear again...

Eyes that slowly opened, but what he saw did not change, just that, the way he saw it did.

'Blue?', he remembered the water pillar that decreased the flood.

Where did that water go? Was that it, the water he was floating and suffering in?

Then realization struck Renir to chills, 'Energy?!', but then the light disappeared...

'No!', Renir thought as he was again exposed to the hellish liquid!

But since he was there experiencing the worst, it could not be any worse.

So, Renir opened his mouth, and took a gulp!

As if he drank very hot water, it coursed through his throat then to his stomach, he felt it was like nails, grazing his insides, and then.....

It disappeared.

A surge of power filled his entirety, like a balloon on the verge of popping by filling it too much air!

Just one gulp and it was too much for him. How much more if he could drink this all?!

While enduring the intensity of pain, he looked at his right wrist and thought, 'Elemental energy.'

Just a split second and he learned his water affinity increased by two!

How powerful was this Water Sentinal if this liquid was its source of energy? It was pure water energy!

Renir did not think any longer and without considering the pain, he gulped and gulped.

The pure water energy was like a liquid at first but when it was absorbed by his body, it turned to the energy that filled him!

His belly did not increase in size even though he drank a gallon already.

But his insides was whelming up by energy that he felt he needed to exert or else...

Before he could think of anything, suddenly, the pure water energy felt like a hand that pulled him.

'Eh?', Renir's bloodied body was helplessly being dragged in the water energy. He couldn't do anything about it.

While he was being dragged, soft light appeared to where the direction he was being dragged into.

It was the rising moonlight that already peaks the mountain, but from being into the pitch-black darkness, any light was blinding to Renir.

'It's dragging me out?!', Renir should be happy but he was not sure how to feel about being inside the Water Sentinel's stomach.

It was painful, but it was an opportunity as well, thus, his complex emotions.

The water energy slowly lifted him up to the light. After all Renir's struggle, he was too weak to fight against the pure energy that brought him out.

Renir reached out his hand, the moonlight that gave the water-energy a chance to show its true colors.

It was brilliant and lustrous that shone into Renir's reflective eyes.

Even though he only went through suffering and torture in this deep blue, he coveted it as he shouted, "I will come back!"

He knew the vexation of him needing to go back, but still, that was the only way to increase his water affinity and capture the second rune.

Renir's body that bleeds, torn, and anguished told him not to go back there anymore, yet, his will went against it.

No matter how much it costs, he will get back there drain the Water Sentinal dry!

That was Renir's will, his iron will!

That was when he started to lose consciousness out of the overwhelming new energy inside of him. He could not control it so his eyes darkened for the body to use all its energy to dissipate the water energy.

The Water Sentinal felt its energy lessening when it should be increasing since it was absorbing a living being.

With sufficient intelligence, it knew what it ate was dangerous to it keep inside so it decided to spit Renir out.

The Pentafive on the first port noticed the Water Sentinal stopped in front of them and didn't move.

They were so curious they had their eyes stick to the Water Sentinal.

This was the moment they were waiting for, the change in its behavior.

Its big jaw dropped and water brilliance came out as if it was controlled by unknown energy. It came out like hands and threw out something.

Sceke stood up to see what it was.

That something was a bit red and.... had limbs?

"It's a person!", Sceke jolted in horror as he realized the cruel reality.

Old Ze immediately covered Ye's eyes in hope for her not to witness the gore.

Veronia had her mouth covered by her hands, wanting to puke while Hanzee had a paled face.

They could clearly see that blood was escaping the body as it spread to the flood red.

"I can't look at this...", Veronia turned around and silently cried.

Sceke then whispered, "So it is true that the Water Sentinal was finished to the others that it came to us.", but something still bugged him and Old Ze's response cleared it out to him;

"From its body, it's a man, but.... why is he spat out?"

While they were in shock, the Water Sentinal turned around its huge body and swam slowly away.

Sceke looked at it, puzzled, and asked, "Why is it going away?"

"I don't know...", Old Ze answered.

After a minute, the Water Sentinal was out of sight and the mysterious man's body was unmoving.

It was a corpse to the five...

They have no idea what was like in the insides of the Water Sentinal, because if they did, they wouldn't be standing there, alive. However, they were sure no human could survive the fearsome Water Sentinal.

Sceke looked at the body with pity and said, "We have to get that body."

It was strange for him to say that but nobody disagreed.

Currently, Veronia stopped crying but was comforting little Ye as she realized what the panic was about.

"Sorry, but I can't swim.", Old Ze dropped his head in shame even though it was not his fault for his heavy body.

"No, I can do it by myself.", Sceke determinedly said, "Old Ze you will carry me and the body as soon as you got a hold of me then Hanzee will burn the body."

That was their goal. They wanted to have the body buried but they can't, so they decided to just burn it instead of being food to these foul creatures of Gantlet.

It will benefit nobody, but they just didn't want the corpse of an unfortunate person like them to be sullied.

While they were planning, Veronia said, "I will help too!"

And afterward, Ye said the same thing.

It was a reckless mission but not Old Ze nor Sceke argued and let them be, "Then let's do what we can!", Sceke exclaimed.

While they all nodded, the water creatures they called drainers found Renir's unconscious body.
