CH-2

Clark, like Nate, ignored the curiosity of Chloe. He did what Nate asked, using common sense and logic.

The point was to absolutely make sure that no human could hear him speaking, let alone in a clear tone, from that distance.

Taking such suitable, optimal steps, he hid his mouth between his hands.

He began to whisper,

"Can you hear me? If you can, tell me what it is about Chloe that you like that way? I can't see it."

Nate didn't need to hide anything from Chloe, given his abilities, so he responded out loud.

He said, out loud,

"I hear you loud and clear. Given your obsession with a girl who looks like a prepubescent child and has the charm of a lifeless plank of wood, you may find it difficult to understand what I appreciate about Chloe. What's your next question?"

He was going to make Chloe forget about all of this later.

"..."

Clark's eyes grew big when he heard the answer.

His facial expressions changed, and his mouth stammered, and he eventually appeared indignant. A bit. Indignant was the world. Surely because Nate didn't share his fondness for flat women with the low-cost smile and low-cost canine teeth of an overrated-looking vampire…

She was an overrated-looking vampire with the build of a child. Looking at her for too long and too close felt like pedophilia.

Nate even despised her overly soft, overly melodramatic voice.

Beauty was entirely subjective.

To Nate, Lana Lang seemed to be whispering every time she spoke because her words moved a lot of air.

She spoke air rather.

Everything about her annoyed him, could get on his nerves. He couldn't imagine himself with her, even if she were the last woman on the planet.

If he had to use an animal to describe how she looked to him, it would be one of Madagascar's little animals with big eyes: the lemur.

She seemed just as distressed.

Her aura felt like distress itself.

Sometimes he even felt offended by the simple fact that she was alive and able to say words to him.

She actually had bad breath.

Or he wished she had bad breath.

Her way of speaking would sound less grating to his ears.

If her breath was foul, he would have something more normal to focus on while she was in his vicinity.

Nate wasn't sure when he started to dislike her so much, but sometimes looks and personality were inextricably linked.

One day, Nate eventually and suddenly found out how ugly Lana Lang actually looked to him.

He felt no attraction.

In fact, the attraction was exponentially negative.

"..."

Chloe had no reaction because, while Nate did not directly erase her memories for now, he had already activated one skill on her: making her lose interest in the current topic at hand.

She was concentrating on her files, which she was organizing and attempting to keep from stacking up like a mountain.

Nate used the same ability on Clark as Clark finally spoke. He activated a skill that would prevent Clark from worrying or questioning why Chloe had, and would have no reaction to the ongoing conversation and exchange, even when her name came up.

Clark ignored the Lana-related topic, focusing on what was more important, as he stated, probably rejoiced that Nate wasn't into the girl of his dreams,

"How did you hear me so clearly just now? It shouldn't be possible unless… Wait, let's go talk about this somewhere else."

While Nate was able to ensure that Clark did not question Chloe's current behavior, he could not force Clark to reveal his secrets in front of her.

The ability was intelligent, with its own complexities and contradictions. Nate didn't need to use it wisely because it would always protect his secrets; the rest were just more complicated details.

Nate agreed to Clark's request as they left the room, but not before he ensured that Chloe forgot the last few seconds.

They were seconds related to his secrets, so manipulating reality was easily doable.

When they got to a place where they could talk freely, Clark looked around and said,

"Your nonsensical lies and silly babbling about Lana aside, what was that just now? Do you have something sort of enhanced hearing? How did this come about?"

"Are you a meteor freak?"

Before responding, Nate remembered how very often Clark didn't even try to hide his abilities from people who were not close to him. Those were frequently people he deemed high risk, as well as freaks whom he had to stop. It was a major contradiction in the series.

Clark didn't talk about where his powers came from with them, but displaying them in front of such dangerous strangers was no problem.

He feared betrayals more than he feared people who had no interest in his well-being. No interest at all. It was the stupid Kent education he had received.

Nate liked the Kents, but they were actually quite dumb.

Nate sighed inside and said,

"Maybe I am, maybe not... Why the question? Are you going to stop me from trying to get closer to your best friend? Or do you just want to know if I'm an evil person?"

"I am not evil, if that is what you are concerned about."

He smiled.

He and Clark were behind the school, near a wall with no one. It was located behind the school's canteen.

Clark said, with a full but still wary smile, after staring at him for a long time,

"You don't look like a bad guy, sorry, but I've heard that those freaks are dangerous, so I was concerned about Chloe. Understandable, right?"

Nate responded,

"Of course, I understand where your concerns stem from. Naturally, from a good place. The last thing a best friend wants is for his best friend to end up with a bad guy. But I am not one. Look at my handsome face; how can I be one?"

Clark laughed a bit as he said,

"If being a good guy was just about having a decent face, what's the point of the police?"

As he finished playing around, Nate said,

"Good point. Speaking of, since you're more than happy and willing to acknowledge my handsome mug, allow me to let you in on a few little secrets. Mostly about my abilities."

"This will shock you to your core… I told you how you and I are much more similar than you realize, right?"

Clark frowned,

"What does this have to do with me?"

His guard rose and shot straight up again.

His face was funny to look at.

Nate didn't make him wait any longer, saying, while regretful that he hadn't stored his spaceship in his inventory,

"You and I are the same; I don't come from this planet. Twelve years ago, I landed on this planet in a spacecraft. My home is called Krypton, and I believe you are from there as well."

"I'm saying this because I observed you for a long time… Not just today around Lana. You have a weakness to a green rock known as Kryptonite. It happens to be fragments of our home planet that came with the meteor shower. Lana wears one around her neck."

There was time to store it later tonight for convenience and concealment. After all, despite his abilities, he couldn't constantly supervise his home's basement.

Nate didn't know his Kryptonian parents and heritage, so he didn't exaggerate or lie. He could, but he didn't see the purpose.

He also didn't call Clark Kal-El because he didn't know his own Kryptonian name.

It would sound too fishy.

Clark winced and attempted to lie as he said, his face visibly uncomfortable,

"What are you talking about? I don't know what you're talking about… Are you trying to call yourself an alien while also calling me one? What idiotic thing is this?"

He was probably in a hurry to get back home and talk to Jonathan and Martha.

However, demonstrating super-speed would only serve to prove the point.

Nate chuckled and said,

"Don't try to distract me and have me turn my head so you can rush back home to talk about this with your parents or something like that... I told you that you and I are the same."

Whizz!

Nate didn't have time for nonsense, so the moment he said the words, he zoomed.

He vanished in a blur and reappeared immediately behind Clark.

"Yo, I'm here…"

He spoke softly, placing his hand on Clark's shoulder as he remained unresponsive. Nate couldn't tell if it was due to Clark being caught off guard or simply being slower.

The speed differences couldn't be that great, so the second hypothesis was rather flimsy.

Clark turned to Nate in surprise as he finally began to stop lying stubbornly,

"How did you do that! Are you really...?"

He appeared to trust Nate not to be a bad guy because he did not take any steps back.

Nate smiled and said,

"I have a lot to tell you and teach you about Clark, even though I don't remember life on Krypton or my parents. I seem to have some useful facts about my identity and powers intuitively implanted in my brain for some reason I can't find out... Anyway, I'm glad I found someone like me... Wasn't it difficult to keep the super strength under control at first?"

Rumble!

Thud!

After his speech, he raised his foot and then slammed it down hard, leaving a loud thud and a small dent in the ground.

A crater.

The crater expanded around him and Clark, with dust kicking up and the ground sinking slightly.

It was a little spectacular, but not enough to draw unwanted attention here.

Nate felt he was probably a little stronger than Clark, but he hadn't assessed Clark yet. The thing was, he could already fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes, as well as use X-ray vision and blow strong and cold air currents.

From the start, he possessed most of Superman's powers. Even in his memories, the old Nate had all of these abilities from the beginning. They were obviously not strong.

The Essence had average Kryptonian potential in terms of the speed at which Essence-linked things grew. But it seemed like his own body as a Kryptonian had more potential than that.

One with a lot of mystery to solve in terms of parentage.

XX

The first meeting between the two Kryptonians, who recognized themselves as aliens not from this planet, ended with Nate demonstrating most of his abilities to a stunned Clark.

Nate and Clark did not stay at school long after Nate revealed his identity. They left school shortly after saying goodbye to Chloe and Pete, to continue their private and friendly exchanges and discussions.

The two of them were now in a forest not far from the bridge where Lex Luthor was supposed to crash his car on Clark.

Nate wanted to see how powerful the plot was.

Would Lex be able to survive without Clark's help? If Clark didn't save him, who would he find to envy, study, and hate?

Nate reflected inwardly, amused and curious. A sorry-looking Clark was in front of him, his ass on the ground.

Clark was, as Nate hypothesized, weaker than him. Even if by a small amount. Still, with both of them being blessed with super stamina, the slight difference in strength was enough for Clark to lose every time they moved their fists against each other.

They didn't fight seriously, instead capitalizing on their faster speeds to spar and see who was superior. They did not want to uproot the landscaping around here too much.

As Clark cleaned his ass from dirt and grass, he remarked,

"If everyone on our planet is like you, I must be on a lower scale…"

There was no sense of competition or grumbling at losing in his voice, only curiosity.

Nate said,

"Don't belittle yourself. I believe I am a little different... But our people are known as Kryptonians. That's what other extraterrestrials call us in our galaxy."

Clark asked,

"How much do you know?"

Nate replied,

"Not much more than what I told you, aside from the occasional memory that comes back to me... They don't all seem to belong to me or be aimed specifically at me… Don't ask when even I have no idea why."

"Anyway, we'll stop here for the day. Let's wait a bit before going to your house, so I can speak with your parents."

Clark expressed his confusion, saying,

"Wait? What are we waiting for here?"

Crash!

Smash!

He barely had time to finish his sentence before a fast sports car careened down a cliff and collided with him. The impact hurled them both into a chaotic frenzy toward the river behind him.

"..."

Nate was shocked and rendered speechless.

Clark was still bumped by the car down here?

Well... At this point, he had somewhat of a clear idea of how powerful the plot seemed to be in this world.

XX

Somewhere else in Smallville, meanwhile.

Not far from the Kawatche Caves, a blonde woman awoke from a deep slumber in a mysterious, hidden chamber.

She was called Lindsay.

Someone who had gone missing for years following an interesting meteorite-related accident.

A voice boomed faintly from the crevices of the walls, casting an otherworldly and powerful, yet strangely comforting glow through the gaps. Despite the serene glow, the voice lacked the expected tranquility.

The voice said,

"The child carrying the will of my old friend seems to have woken up to his purpose ahead of time... He looks to be exceptionally gifted. More than expected. Even a little oddly."

"Find him and bring him to me. He goes by the name Moro-Am. His invisible mission shall be to foster happiness between me and my son Kal-El."

As she put on a white dress, the woman asked,

"What is his name on this plane?"

The voice replied,

"Nathaniel Moreno. His foster parental figure seems to have passed on in recent days."

"For some inexplicable and strange twist of fate, I had forgotten about his darkest hour until a few moments ago."

The voice usually didn't forget anything.

It wasn't intended to.

The voice continued as it said,

"Find the most effective way to win him over to us. You know what to do… Intrigue is not to be ruled out. He is also one of our good people; you are not required to keep my son in mind."

The voice had brainwashed the woman into thinking she was from Krypton. It had also given her powerful abilities.

Because she was already one of those children affected by the meteorites, the possibility of harm to her body was minimal.

She could carry out any mission with confidence. Moro-Am was also not his child, but rather the child of an old friend. Jed-Am. She didn't have to try to go soft on him.

Author Note:

I struggled a lot with which Kryptonian house to choose for the MC. I needed the MC to have no living ties other than being considered friendly with Clark.

I ended up choosing the house of Am (Change, Cycle, Destiny).

Tell me if there are any issues that I am not aware of, as I am not well-versed in Kryptonian affairs.

I'm still on Smallville season 5.
