บท 252: Chapter 253

"Are you here at Mount Myōboku because of me, Gensou?" Naruto asked, his voice trembling.

Gensou glanced at him, a smirk forming on his face. "I thought your first words to me would be about Sasuke."

Naruto ignored the jab, his fists clenched tighter. He repeated, more forcefully, "Are you here because of me?"

Understanding the weight behind Naruto's question, Gensou briefly surveyed the devastated Mount Myōboku. He nodded calmly.

"Of course. You should know your own value."

"...The Nine-Tails," Naruto muttered, lowering his gaze as he touched his stomach.

Then, with sudden intensity, he snapped his head up and shouted, "Why?!"

Naruto's fiery eyes locked onto Gensou as he demanded, "Why would you destroy Mount Myōboku? Why hurt all the toads here? Wasn't your target me?!"

"Why?"

Gensou's tone remained indifferent, yet he chuckled lightly.

"That's a good question."

While Gensou had little patience for explanations, Naruto's pained expression made him pause. For once, he decided to humor him.

"Because you didn't show up, Naruto."

Naruto froze, unable to process the response.

Gensou continued, his voice steady, almost emotionless:

"If you had come to me sooner, none of this would've happened. Mount Myōboku would still stand, and its toads wouldn't have suffered. But you didn't come.

Whether intentionally or not, you allowed Mount Myōboku to stand between us. So, to find you, I had no choice but to level this mountain."

"To find me… you destroyed this mountain?!" Naruto whispered, Gensou's words echoing endlessly in his mind.

It was as if a sharp blade had pierced his heart. He stood there, his face pale, muttering, "So… Mount Myōboku's destruction, all this death and pain… is my fault?"

The realization hit like a thunderclap.

If he had gone to face Gensou earlier, Mount Myōboku wouldn't have been destroyed, and the toads wouldn't have suffered.

The root of everything… was him.

Naruto's face twisted in anguish and guilt. The malevolent chakra of the Nine-Tails began to seep out uncontrollably, shrouding him in a dangerous aura.

But within his mind, the Nine-Tails, its eyes filled with wariness toward Gensou, chose not to exploit Naruto's moment of vulnerability. Instead, it snarled:

"Brat! Are you an idiot?! Letting his words get to you?!"

Naruto flinched. Before he could respond, Fukasaku and Shima leapt onto his shoulders, their voices sharp with urgency.

"Naruto, don't listen to that fool!" Shima said.

"This was our decision!" Fukasaku added. "We dragged you away, following the Great Toad Sage's orders! Mount Myōboku's sacrifices are on us, not you! Don't let the toads' efforts be in vain! Look ahead, Naruto! The one who destroyed Mount Myōboku is standing right in front of you—Gensou!"

Naruto took a deep breath.

The combined voices of the Nine-Tails and the elder toads pulled him back from the brink. His eyes regained focus, and his face hardened with resolve.

"I understand now!"

The volatile Nine-Tails chakra around him stabilized, transforming into a protective cloak that wrapped tightly around his body.

Naruto looked straight at Gensou, determination burning in his eyes.

"Mount Myōboku's destruction is partially my fault. But your crimes, Gensou, are far greater!"

Naruto's voice grew stronger. "I don't know what you want with the Nine-Tails inside me, but if the Great Toad Sage and Mount Myōboku fought so hard to stop you, it can't be anything good! So…"

"So?" Gensou raised an eyebrow, his voice calm, almost amused.

"So, I'm going to defeat you here and now!" Naruto declared, clenching his fists and slamming them together in front of his chest. "And then I'll make things right! That's my promise!"

For a moment, Gensou simply observed Naruto. The determination and conviction radiating from him were unmistakably those of a protagonist destined for greatness.

Gensou chuckled softly. "I never expected to talk you into submission, Naruto. But if I can plant even a small seed of doubt in that unshakable heart of yours, then that's enough for me."

With a casual wave of his hand, Gensou gestured at Naruto. "The culprit is standing right here. If you want revenge for Mount Myōboku, come at me."

"You…!"

Naruto gritted his teeth, enraged by Gensou's nonchalant attitude toward the destruction he had caused.

Just as Naruto prepared to launch into battle, his body instinctively forming the hand seal for Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, a soft purple glow enveloped him.

"Eh? What's happening to me?" Naruto stammered, realizing he couldn't move.

In the blink of an eye, the world around him shifted.

When he looked again, he found himself suspended above the battlefield. No… it wasn't the battlefield that had moved—it was him.

"Wait, what?! Great Toad Grandpa, let me out of here!" Naruto shouted, panic-stricken.

Gensou, who had been watching intently, narrowed his eyes as Naruto vanished in a burst of purple light. He looked up and saw Naruto trapped within a giant, pale purple gemstone set at the center of the Great Toad Sage's prayer beads.

"Crafty old toad," Gensou muttered, his expression darkening.

The Great Toad Sage smiled faintly, its ancient eyes glinting with wisdom.

"You leave me no choice, young descendant of Hagoromo," it said calmly.

Gensou's fingers flexed, his tone sharp. "You could've stayed alive, you know."

The sage chuckled, its voice steady despite the mounting tension.

"I've lived long enough, young one. Do what you must."

บท 253: Chapter 254

"A descendant of Hagoromo? I won't go easy on you just because of your connection to the Sage of Six Paths," Gensou said coldly.

The Great Toad Sage paused for a moment, a hint of surprise flashing in its ancient eyes.

"You know quite a bit."

Time erodes everything; even the brightest histories fade over millennia. Referring to Gensou as a "descendant of Hagoromo" wasn't mere formality—it brought back memories of Hagoromo's brother, Hamura, and their shared journey.

Now, facing off against Gensou, the bloodline of a figure it once regarded so highly, the Great Toad Sage could only sigh at the whims of fate.

What surprised the Great Toad Sage more was Gensou's awareness of the deeper ties to the Sage of Six Paths. Most people in the current age, even the descendants of the Senju and Uchiha clans, had lost sight of their ancestral roots and connections.

The toad's thoughts turned to the visions it had seen in its dreams—the glimpses of a turbulent future. The young man before it wasn't just strong; he was the epicenter of a storm destined to reshape the shinobi world.

And that was why it had to stop him.

Boom. Boom.

The thunderous beat of a heart echoed across the battlefield as the Great Toad Sage's immense chakra surged to life.

Gensou narrowed his eyes as the Sage's withered body began to transform.

The once-elderly frame of the Great Toad Sage swelled with energy. Sagging skin became taut, and a frail posture straightened into one that radiated vitality. The sheer pressure of the Sage's rejuvenation was enough to crack the earth beneath its feet.

"Returning to your prime, huh?" Gensou murmured, his tone calm but his gaze sharp.

The air itself groaned under the weight of the Great Toad Sage's chakra. Around it, the earth trembled, and the sky above seemed to darken.

Gensou's body instinctively tensed as an invisible force pressed down on him, threatening to buckle his knees.

But he stood firm.

"Impressive," Gensou said, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "I didn't expect you to have this much left in you."

The Great Toad Sage, now at its peak, opened its eyes, radiating an aura that matched the legends of its past.

"Deep down, I knew it would come to this," the Sage said softly. "But I have no regrets."

Fukasaku and Shima, standing on the sidelines, felt the overwhelming tension in the air. They immediately began herding the surviving toads away.

"Everyone, retreat now!" Fukasaku barked, his voice filled with urgency.

"Wait, what about Naruto?" Shima asked, casting a glance back at the battlefield.

The Great Toad Sage's voice boomed across the wasteland.

"Take the others and leave. I will handle the rest."

"But—"

"No buts," the Sage interrupted firmly.

The two elder toads exchanged a look, their worry evident, but ultimately nodded. They turned to the remaining toads and began the evacuation.

The battle erupted with blinding speed.

"Katon: Gōryūka no Jutsu!"

Gensou unleashed a massive fire dragon, its roaring flames distorting the air with intense heat as it surged toward the Sage.

"Suiton: Teppōdama!"

The Great Toad Sage countered with a high-density water projectile, enhanced by its immense chakra reserves.

The two forces collided midair, creating an explosion of steam that obscured the battlefield.

From within the fog, a deafening roar echoed as the remnants of the Sage's water projectile broke through the flames, surging toward Gensou.

Gensou leapt back, narrowly avoiding the attack. His expression remained calm, but his mind calculated the difference in their chakra reserves.

"If I continue to match him jutsu for jutsu, I'll eventually run out of chakra," Gensou mused.

Adapting his strategy, he launched himself toward the Great Toad Sage, closing the distance in an instant.

The Great Toad Sage wasn't idle. With a powerful leap, it launched itself into the air, its massive frame defying gravity.

"Suiton: Teppōdama Barrage!"

A relentless downpour of water bullets rained from above, each one capable of leveling a building.

Gensou darted through the storm, his movements fluid and precise as he evaded the assault.

But even as he dodged, a single projectile grazed his shoulder, the impact enough to send him skidding backward.

Gensou straightened, his face impassive despite the fresh wound. He glanced at the Sage, now descending from the sky like a falling meteor.

"Not bad," he admitted. "But let's see how you handle this."

Raising his hand, Gensou's Rinnegan flared with power.

"Banshō Ten'in!"

The gravitational pull yanked the Great Toad Sage mid-descent, throwing off its trajectory. Gensou followed up with a devastating Shinra Tensei, sending the massive toad crashing into the ground with earth-shaking force.

The battlefield was a whirlwind of destruction, each clash sending shockwaves across the landscape.

But as the dust settled, it became clear that neither combatant was holding back.

Gensou, his body radiating the power of the Six Paths, stood tall, his eyes fixed on the Sage.

The Great Toad Sage, undeterred despite the strain, rose once more. Its voice boomed, filled with unyielding resolve.

"You may be strong, but you lack one thing, young descendant."

Gensou tilted his head, intrigued. "And what's that?"

"Purpose," the Sage replied.

The two titans charged at each other, their final clash poised to shake the very foundations of the shinobi world.
