บท 31: Vitruvius and The Lollipop
Cold seeped into Ru's consciousness. As he shivered uncontrollably, he tugged at an imaginary blanket. His left arm was heavy and unresponsive, while his right arm tingled. His consciousness was sparked by a growing sense of lack.
Ru was caught between sleep and wakefulness, in a kind of suspended limbo, and felt extremely weak. There was a sweet taste in his mouth and a vague numbness on his tongue. He took a deep breath through his nose, and his lungs filled with the familiar, yet unpleasant, smell of hygiene.
Damn, this place smelled like a hospital.
"Hospital? Or is it the morgue? Am I dead... Again?" the question that trapped his mind made him panic and quickened his heartbeat. His body became taut, but he could not escape the void he was hanging in.
Ru jumped up and finally woke up. He opened his eyes wide in panic, but his sight was covered with a cloth. When he tried to move, he couldn't, his body was stiff for some reason. With the excitement pumping through him, he lifted his head. He tried to scream, but there was a hard, large, and somewhat sweet object in his mouth.
He almost swallowed it, but luckily it was on a stick. Yes, a lollipop, probably mixed fruit flavored - at least he hoped so - was stuck in his mouth. When he tried to push it away with his tongue, he realized that his mouth was taped shut. His inner voice cursed. He wondered: What kind of maniac was he dealing with?
The warmth of the red cloth in front of his eyes pressed against his face. There was silence, only the sound of breathing and heartbeats. Suddenly he felt the room vibrate slightly. A thousand questions went through his mind at that moment. He remembered the last pervert who had chased him through the back alleys. Ru had hit his head with a metal trash lid.
"Maybe, that pervert must have had a car. He must have hit me lightly with the car and kidnapped me under the pretext of taking me to the hospital," Ru thought.
"It is possible that he was not only a pervert, but also a serial killer," Ru muttered. Should he have bitten the big thing - the candy - into pieces?
"Oh, fuck!" The candy was so hard. He was able to partially lower his outstretched arms as he continued to reluctantly suck on it.
Ru felt the handcuffs on his wrists and ankles. He guessed that he was strapped into the center of a device that limited his movements to certain angles.
"I have to stay calm to survive. The serial killer might be watching me," he thought.
Evidently, he could only move his arms partly up and partly down, and his legs partly closed and partly open. When he reached out with his fingers, he realized that his arms were attached to two metal platforms, one curved, the other angular. There must have been platforms under his feet, also made of metal. One was curved, the other straight.
Ru used his imagination to describe the device he had been put into.
He wanted to say, "I am hanging in the middle of a hook made of a square and a circle. Whoa," but he just grunted because of the thing in his mouth.
"Could this be something similar to Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man," he thought. This idea reinforced the possibility that he had been abducted by a serial killer. His fear doubled. He was like a butterfly caught in a net, fluttering in place.
Then the spider came. The faint light behind the red cloth cut through the darkness.
Ru's fear-pumping heart skipped a beat as his frantic gaze pierced the blindfold and seared the approaching threat into his neurons.
His eyes caught a man as bright as the moon. This man looked elegant in a top hat -with a clock and goggles attached- and a black leather overcoat. Maybe he was a rockstar.
"Is he a killer rockstar?" Ru thought.
The mysterious man extended his hand to Ru.
Ru was scared. He quickly shook his head from side to side a few times. He made it clear that he wanted to avoid the man by tensing his body and screaming at the same time, but his voice was muffled by the duct tape. He bit down hard on the candy to break it.
"Hush!" said the mysterious man.
Ru felt pain as the man quickly pulled the duct tape away. The blindfold was washed away with tears.
"Are you crying?" the mysterious man asked, his voice so familiar.
Ru shook his head a few times as if to say no.
"You must learn not to cry. If you want to be me in the future," the mysterious man said in a childish tone. It was the same tone as Ru's voice.
"Oh no! I kidnapped myself," Ru would have said if he didn't have that candy in his mouth.
"Give me that candy," the mysterious man said, grabbing the lollipop out of Ru's mouth.
Ru pushed with his tongue but could not get the lollipop out of his mouth.
This went on for a while and Ru felt like he was drowning.
Yes, he had something in his mouth and he couldn't get it out, then he got the hiccups.
"Hic! Hic! Hic!"
"He's awake! Ru is awake!" some asshole shouted, almost in Ru's ear.
Ru wanted to say, "Shut up, bumpkin," but there seemed to be something in his mouth.
"Doctor! Nurse!" As far as Ru could see with his half-open eyes, the shouting bumpkin was none other than Vaelan.
"Aha! I'm alive again, I'm definitely in the hospital," Ru thought, and this time he was relieved. It was such a relief that his body stopped resisting. He probably fainted or died from the initial shock.
What made him think he was dead was that when he opened his eyes, he was in heaven.
Yes, the place he was in was heaven. Wherever this place was, it looked like it was completely made of gold.
"Woah! I'm in a palace made of gold, after I died I became ultra-rich, and my wish came true, this is incredible!"
