บท 126: Departure

...

Alan yawned as he walked out of the room and found an unexpected person before him.

"You... you're allowed out?"

He stared incredulously at the girl. The women imprisoned there were never allowed to leave, so how did this girl manage to come here?

The girl nodded, then astonishingly spoke, "I'm leaving this island."

The young man's mouth fell open. This iceberg-like girl was actually leaving the island? Were the pirates letting her go? Could pirates be so kind?

"Are they transferring you somewhere else?"

The girl shook her head. "No, the pirates won't be able to control me anymore."

Alan suddenly became excited. "How did you manage that?"

"Bennet is taking me away. The pirates can't stop him."

"Bennet? Who is he?"

The girl shook her head.

Despite the confusion, Alan couldn't contain his impatience. "Can he take me and my friends with you?"

This time, the girl lowered her head, seeming reluctant to meet Alan's gaze.

"Alright, I see."

A wave of immense disappointment washed over Alan, leaving him deeply unsettled.

"Congratulations though. You've finally escaped this hellhole."

The girl looked up slightly surprised, thanking him. "Thank you."

She seemed to consider for a moment, then clenched her fists timidly. "I'll come back to rescue you."

"Um... thanks." Something about it felt odd.

Then, to Alan's surprise, the girl's face blushed faintly. She hesitated before asking, "Your name?"

Considering how long they'd known each other without exchanging names... well, if you could call it knowing each other.

The boy replied promptly, "Alan, Alan Alfred. And you?"

"Me?" The girl was suddenly at a loss for words, and after a while, she said somewhat sadly, "I don't have a name."

Someone without a name? Could it be that she was kidnapped by pirates and imprisoned on this island before she could even remember?

Alan scratched his head. "Not having a name can be quite troublesome. When you return to the normal world, not having a name will make things difficult."

He suggested, "Let me give you a name."

The girl blinked her eyes. Although her face still appeared somewhat icy to Alan, her eyes revealed eagerness. Clearly, she was very willing to have Alan give her a name.

Alan crossed his arms and closed his eyes to think. What name would be suitable?

"Mary? No, too ordinary."

"Carol? It feels a bit mismatched with you."

The boy muttered to himself, troubled by what name to choose. The girl quietly watched him without blinking.

"Ah! I've got it. I'll call you 'Kristo,' how about that?"

"Kristo?"

"Yes, Kristo. It means clear as ice, with a transparent soul."

Alan seemed to forget his current predicament, delighted to have come up with such a good name.

"Alright, from now on, I'll be Kristo."

The girl—Kristo nodded, accepting the name given by Alan.

Suddenly, she remembered something, taking off a bracelet from her left wrist. "Here, this is for you!"

"This is something girls wear, I..." Alan wanted to say that, but swallowed his words when he saw Kristo's determined eyes.

"Um... alright, thank you." He took the bracelet and wore it on his left wrist.

"I'll give you something in return."

Alan took off the Pisces pendant hanging around his neck and gently broke it into two fish. He handed one of them to Kristo.

"My mom said this pendant was blessed by a priest. Find a string and wear it around your neck. It will surely bless you with safety."

Kristo stared intently into Alan's eyes. The two locked gazes, and just as Alan started feeling awkward under her gaze, she quickly took the pendant as if afraid Alan might change his mind.

"I will definitely rescue you," she repeated once more.

"Thank you, but promise me first to keep yourself safe."

As they conversed, a figure cloaked in black appeared not far away, shouting towards them, "Little girl, we have to go."

Kristo bid Alan a reluctant farewell, "I'm leaving. Take care of yourself." Then she turned and walked towards the person.

"That's the person taking her away from the pirates' lair, right? I'm so jealous."

Alan thought to himself. Even though he didn't know whether that person was good or bad, the girl's future would be better off outside this pirate's lair. He was beginning to understand what the place where the girl had been imprisoned was used for.

As he pondered these thoughts, Kristo suddenly turned back and smiled faintly at him.

"Oh... so she does smile. And it's actually quite nice," Alan gazed dumbfoundedly in the direction Kristo departed. Today, she said so much, making him quite amazed.

He cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted after her, "Take care of yourself too!"

...

Kristo followed Bennet onto the ship.

Soon, the ship slowly departed from the harbor, heading into the boundless sea.

"Can't he come with us?" She looked up again and asked.

Bennet shook his head again. After learning that he could take her away from the pirate's lair, the first thing the girl asked him was whether she could take a boy with them.

"I've told you many times, he's not like us. I won't take an ordinary person with us." The wizard sounded a bit impatient. The little girl had been asking him this question since yesterday.

Kristo didn't pursue the question further today. They were already on the ship and getting farther away from the island. Asking again would be pointless.

Seeing disappointment clearly in her eyes, Bennet said, "You will realize it sooner or later. You, me, and those brothers and sisters who are about to accept you, we are different from ordinary people. We will control incredible power, and ordinary people like that boy are just mortals."

"Little girl, when that time comes, think back to what you thought today. You will realize how naive and ridiculous you were."

Kristo didn't argue but said, "I have a name now, Kristo."

"Did you come up with it yourself? Well, that saves me the trouble."

The girl looked at the disappearing dock. "I will come back here again."

Bennet chuckled, "Are you planning revenge? Well, after being imprisoned for so many years, it's understandable."

Then he added somewhat disdainfully, "When you gain power, the mortals on this island will all become your playthings. Work hard."
