บท 41: Ch-41 < Herrscher of blood >

The aftermath of the battle with the Herrscher of Death had left Kevin weary but determined.

His body bore the marks of the intense fight, with deep wounds inflicted by the lethal mist. These wounds, despite his formidable regenerative abilities, resisted healing. Kevin knew they were not ordinary injuries.

As he stood amidst the rubble of the once-thriving city, a green light enveloped him, a reward from the system for defeating the Herrscher of Death.

His body was mended, but only partially. The healing aura restored more than eighty percent of his physical form, yet his energy reserves were left at a meager fifty percent.

His stigma glowed dark blue signifying the absorption of authority of Death.

Kevin reached into the void, pulling out a miniature phone from his system's inventory. Placing it to his ear, a holographic display flickered to life, connecting him to AI Bronya.

In the Lab

The sterile atmosphere of the lab was disrupted by a soft ping, signaling an incoming call. "Received signal from Kevin-ni-sama," AI Bronya's calm voice announced.

Immediately, Mei and Mobius abandoned their tasks, hurrying over to the central screen.

The usually stoic scientist, Mobius, couldn't hide her curiosity, while Mei's expression was one of concern. Elysia, however, was still on the front lines, assisting with the evacuation of civilians.

"Kevin, are you alright?" Mei's voice carried a note of urgency as she stared at the hologram of Kevin, noting the weariness etched on his face.

Kevin offered a faint smile, though his voice remained steady. "Yeah, I can manage somehow."

Mobius arched an eyebrow. "Manageable is not a good term to say," she commented, her sharp gaze analyzing every inch of his projected form.

Mei's eyes widened as she noticed the deep wounds still visible on Kevin's body. "Can your regeneration heal those wounds?"

Kevin nodded slowly, though the toll of the battle was evident. "Yes, but it will take more than two days."

A sigh of relief escaped Mei, though her worry didn't entirely dissipate. She then explained, "We launched heavy artillery and various missiles at the Herrscher of Death, but nothing worked."

"She heals everything," Mobius added, her tone tinged with frustration. "Her healing is even stronger than any Herrscher we've encountered before."

Kevin absorbed the power of the fallen Herrscher of Death, feeling a surge of vitality and an increase in his recovery speed and regeneration.

The pain in his body lessened, though the damage remained significant. With determination burning in his eyes, Kevin set off to the location where the Herrscher of Blood was wreaking havoc.

As Kevin neared the epicenter of the conflict, he encountered various MOTH soldiers.

Their expressions were grim, many of them bearing injuries from the intense battle. The atmosphere was heavy with despair, but the sight of Kevin infused them with renewed hope. His very presence was a beacon of resilience.

"Bronya, what's the total death count?" Kevin asked, his voice low but steady.

AI Bronya's response was prompt. "2,072,046 casualties."

The weight of those numbers hit Kevin like a physical blow, but he didn't let it show.

He steeled himself, pushing the grief to the back of his mind. "Everyone, fall back to a safe distance," he commanded the soldiers. "I'll handle the Herrscher of Blood from here."

The soldiers nodded, their faces a mix of respect and relief, as they retreated to safer ground. Kevin pressed on, his eyes narrowing as he spotted a series of explosions in the distance.

Elysia was already engaged in combat with the Herrscher of Blood. Kevin watched as she gracefully dodged the deadly blood weapons hurled at her with terrifying precision. Despite the intensity of the battle, Elysia moved with an almost ethereal grace, her face a picture of calm determination.

Kevin couldn't help but marvel at her.

How much strength does Elysia truly have? he wondered, knowing that she never fully utilized her true powers.

The thought that she could hold her own against a Herrscher without revealing her full potential was comforting.

A nearby Honkai beast, resembling a monstrous mosquito, lay dead, its body charred by the barrage of missiles that had been launched earlier.

Kevin watched as Elysia fired three sharp crystals at the Herrscher of Blood, the projectiles embedding themselves in her flesh.

Fresh blood filled the air, but the Herrscher barely flinched.

Instead, her energy spiked dramatically, causing the ground to tremble beneath them. As she rose from the rubble, her form was grotesque, clad in a dress made entirely of blood. The sight was both horrifying and mesmerizing—a twisted display of the Herrscher's power.

Kevin's grip tightened on his Divine Key. *This has to end now,* he thought, his resolve hardening.

"Elysia, back off!" he commanded through their soul bond, his voice urgent.

Elysia glanced back, her eyes meeting Kevin's. She saw the intensity in his gaze and the deadly energy gathering around his weapon. Without hesitation, she leaped back, giving Kevin the space he needed.

"Baaang!"

The air cracked with the force of Kevin's attack as he unleashed the full power of his Divine Key Retribution.

The energy surged forward like a tidal wave, obliterating everything in its path. The upper body of the Herrscher was blown apart, the sheer force reducing nearby buildings to dust.

For a moment, there was silence, the battlefield eerily still. But then, the Herrscher's gem glowed ominously, and to Kevin's disbelief, her body began to regenerate.

In seconds, the Herrscher of Blood was whole again, her eyes burning with malice.

Kevin's heart sank slightly, though he quickly buried the emotion. " she can regenerate that quickly," he muttered under his breath.

Elysia, now standing beside him, watched the Herrscher with narrowed eyes. "Her healing ability is extraordinary," she said softly, though there was no fear in her voice.

Kevin clenched his fists, feeling the strain of his earlier battle with the Herrscher of Death. *This isn't going to be easy,* he thought, his mind racing through potential strategies. *But we have no choice.*

The Herrscher of Blood stood before them, her body shimmering with the power of her regeneration, blood swirling around her like a living entity. Her lips curled into a sinister smile, her eyes locking onto Kevin.

"You think you can stop me?" she taunted, her voice echoing with dark amusement. "I'll drown this city in blood, and there's nothing you can do to stop it."

Kevin's expression hardened. "We'll see about that."

Elysia gave him a sidelong glance," it looks like we've got our work cut out for us."

Kevin nodded, his determination unwavering and the battle begin.
