Judy uses a false name and doesn't even maintain contact with her family. What is she hiding?

Emily sank into a chair on the hotel terrace, lost in thought. There were numerous indications that something more must have been at play in her mother's death.

Now, the only person who might know the truth lay in a coma in the hospital, and even the doctors couldn't predict when Judy would awaken. So how long would Emily have to wait? A year? Two?
