บท 123: Chapter 107: Unexpected Call

Akira hesitated for a moment, the ringing phone vibrating in her hand.

The name "Hiro" blinked on the screen, and she glanced over at Kai's door, where he and Hina were resting.

The silence of the house pressed in around her, the only noise the soft hum of the refrigerator and the muted sounds of the city outside.

Moreover, Hina and Kai were being "too quiet".

The last time, Akira heard everything about their passionate night together.

The walls weren't so thick.

For some kind of reason, thinking about what they did and hearing their "act" directly seemed to have aroused her a little.

And that would be another reason of why she kept bullying Kai.

Akira stared at the phone for some other seconds.

After a moment's deliberation, she answered, faking Hina's calm and composed voice. "Yes?"

Before she could say anything further, a voice burst through the line, frantic and panicked.

"Kai? Kai, you need to listen! My family and I—something's not right. We might be in serious danger. It's about Hana. She's… she's involved in something dangerous, and I don't know what to do!"

Akira's eyes narrowed as she absorbed the information.

Her heartbeat quickened at the mention of Hana and potential danger.

She forced herself to stay in character, softening her voice into Hina's trademark cold, but smooth tone.

She cleared her throat and turned her voice into a more formal and "elegant" one, trying to sound like her sister.

"Sorry, Hiro-kun, it's Hina. What's happening?" She said, in a formal voice trying to resemble Hina.

A pause, then Hiro's voice returned, shakier this time.

"H-Hina? I thought… Can I speak to Kai? Please, I need to talk to him." He said urgently.

Akira's eyes flickered with curiosity. The tremor in Hiro's voice hinted at genuine terror.

She smirked, though a pang of concern gnawed at her.

What had this "Hana" gotten herself into, and why did it threaten Hiro's entire family?

She clearly didn't know who those people were, but was imagined that they were close people to Kai.

"Kai's unavailable right now," Akira continued, her voice taking on a slight edge. "If you're in danger, you need to tell me everything. Now." She said, with a firm tone.

Another shaky pause. "I-I can't. Just… please, have Kai call me back when he can. It's important, please," Hiro pleaded, desperation straining his voice.

Akira's mind raced, calculating the potential outcomes.

She couldn't press too hard without raising suspicion, and Hiro clearly wasn't willing to talk to Hina.

"Understood. He'll call you as soon as possible. Stay safe, Hiro-kun." Akira said, with a slightly worried voice.

She hung up, the room falling back into its uneasy quiet.

Akira's thoughts churned with intrigue and concern.

The implications of what Hiro had said were grave, especially if Hana was involved in something that put her family at risk.

And for Hiro to be so adamant about speaking to Kai suggested that there were secrets buried even deeper than they had anticipated.

"Interesting," Akira muttered, her lips curving into a sly smile.

She had to know more.

The night wasn't over, and there was no way she would sit idly by.

It was time for her to do a little digging of her own.

Quietly, Akira slipped on her jacket and tucked a concealed blade into her pocket.

The city lights beckoned through the window as she stepped out into the night, ready to unearth the truth about Hiro's cryptic warning and whatever dangerous game Hana was playing.

She locked the door of Kai's house, so that he and Hina could stay safe.

"I guess I need to do some investigation." She said.

Akira received some informations from Sakura about Hiro, but she didn't know anything about his sister Hana.

Being involved in something dangerous could've meant that she was probably an enemy.

And enemy had to be eliminated, no matter what.

Akira walked with a determined stride through the streets illuminated by the faint glow of street lamps until she found a taxi.

She took the first ride to the hospital.

The night air was cool, with a slight breeze that brushed against her face and rustled her long red hair.

During the ride, Akira stopped the driver 500 meters before the hospital.

"Eh? Are you sure, Miss?" The driver said.

"Yes. Leave me here." She said with a firm tone before paying him and getting out of the car.

She took a look around her and saw nothing more than silence.

She took a deep breath to inhale the fresh air and then began to walk.

"I've missed this so much." She said to herself.

As she made her way toward the hospital, she pulled out her phone and quickly dialed Sakura Ishikawa's number.

The phone rang for a few moments before Sakura's calm, authoritative voice came through.

"Akira? What's going on?" Sakura asked, immediately sensing the urgency in the call.

"Sakura, I just intercepted a call on Kai's phone. It was from a boy named Hiro. He sounded frantic, talking about imminent danger to his family related to someone named Hana," Akira said, her voice low and serious. "Do you have any information on him?"

There was a moment of silence as Sakura processed the details.

"Hiro? Yes, I've been monitoring him since the fire at his house. He's a friend of Kai's and is currently admitted to City Hospital. I don't know much about this 'Hana'. The only thing I know about her is that she's his sister. But if she's involved in something dangerous, it could be more severe than we thought." Sakura said, with an almost worried tone.

"I understand. I need to see him," Akira said without hesitation. "Can you tell me which room he's in?"

Sakura sighed, knowing the risks involved in such an action in the middle of the night.

"He's in room 306, third floor. But be cautious, Akira. If there's anyone keeping an eye on Hiro, your visit could draw unwanted attention."

A faint, bitter smile crossed Akira's lips. "You know caution isn't my strong suit, Sakura. But this situation can't wait any longer. And moreover, I have a bad feeling about this guy." She said, while still walking.

Sakura was silent for a moment before replying, "Understood. Keep me updated, and if anything goes wrong, call immediately. The team and I will be ready to step in."

Akira nodded, even though Sakura couldn't see her. "I'll do my best. Thank you."

Ending the call, she slipped her phone back into her jacket pocket and glanced toward the horizon.

The hospital lights loomed in the distance, cold and impersonal, a beacon of safety that hid unspoken truths.

Her heart was beating faster than usual, not out of fear but adrenaline, pure warrior instinct.

"Time to find out what's really happening," she muttered to herself, quickening her pace toward the hospital entrance, ready to confront Hiro and uncover the answers she sought.

As she crossed the threshold into the hospital, the sterile smell of disinfectant and the silence interrupted only by the occasional footsteps of night-shift nurses added a layer of tension.

Nobody seemed to have noticed Akira's presence.

She had just been welcomed by the nurse standing at the "reception" of the hospital.

"Hello, miss, may I help you?" The nurse said with a very formal tone.

Akira smiled at her and nodded her head.

"Hello, I need to urgently see my cousin Hiro. He called me." She said while scratching the back of her head, trying to sound as natural as she could.

"Oh… yes. The special patient, Hiro Yamamoto. He actually said that he was expecting some special visits." The nurse said, while taking some looks at some papers.

She then raised her head to Akira and smiled politely.

"Okay, we've made an exeption for tonight since the visit time is over. Hiro's room is the Number 306 on the third floor. You can take the elevator or the stairs on your right." She said.

Akira smiled politely and thanked the nurse , before looking at her right to see both the elevator and the stairs.

For some strange reasons, she had a bad feeling about the elevator, so she didn't take it.

Instead, she moved toward the stairs, focused and resolute, the number 306 burned into her mind as a mission she would complete at any cost.

"This is gonna be… a revelation moment."

Akira said, with a mischievous smile on her lips.
