บท 68: Chapter 68: Corviknight's Victory Formula

The flames—Corvisquire's thoughts drifted back to the day her mother fell. Even the powerful mother couldn't withstand the scorching fire; her steel feathers became a burden, leading to a tragic defeat.

But Corvisquire didn't blame her mother. It was akin to how Bug-type Pokémon naturally struggle against Bird Pokémon.

However, Corvisquire vowed not to be defeated by fire!

From that day on, she pondered how to combat flames. After all, she would eventually evolve into a Corviknight. This idea was shelved when she settled in Sunset Forest but resurfaced during Summer's special training.

She gradually understood that strong winds could disperse flames or even turn them into a counterattack weapon.

But I'm not capable yet; my wings can't generate strong enough airflow. Suddenly, Corvisquire saw the trapped Skarmory in the nets, looking far from their previous arrogant state when they had defeated her.

You too were defeated by fire but not by me? No, they were supposed to be my revenge targets. If they fall so easily, what's the point of my efforts?

No, defeating the ones who defeated you will suffice. So, I need power!

A strong light enveloped Corvisquire. Her form rapidly expanded, tripling in size. The stored steel energy within her swiftly coated her feathers, making them as hard as steel and as black as the night. Armor of steel covered her entire body—she evolved into Corviknight.

Corviknight let out a sharp cry, and a powerful tornado formed with the vigorous flap of her wings, turning the approaching Flamethrower into a fire tornado that retaliated against Houndoom.

"Impossible! Grumpig, use Psychic to block it!" The bearded man looked incredulous.

Damn, I didn't bring Houndoom with the Flash Fire ability. How could this newly evolved Corviknight steal the spotlight?

The black pearl on Grumpig's head glowed as it struggled. The strange light engulfed the fire tornado, using significant energy to dissipate it.

"Hmph, useless Pokémon. Crush them, Feraligatr!" The man sneered.

A powerful and fierce blue crocodile appeared beside him. This was his true ace, the Pokémon he had carried from being a trainer to a Pokémon hunter—Feraligatr.

"Corvisquire, you've evolved. No, we'll celebrate later. Corviknight, will you assist me? I can't let this Pokémon hunter who sets forests on fire off easily," Summer said.

"Caw~" Corviknight nodded, just what I wanted.

"Right, dealing with scum like this requires no mercy," Marnie said coldly. She set down Morpeko and released her Liepard and Scrafty.

"Five against three? This is justice for you trainers?" The man scoffed. "You're just a bunch of soft-hearted kids."

"Justice? I just want to beat you up without any reservations," Summer responded to the taunt, analyzing the situation.

"Eh? Haha, not bad. I like that—doing as you please. That's why I, Kuroda, became a Pokémon hunter!" Kuroda first looked stunned, then laughed heartily.

"Marnie, handle Houndoom and Grumpig. Can I borrow Morpeko for now?" Summer asked Marnie.

"Ah, if you say so, I have no objections. Make sure to show off Morpeko's charm," Marnie chose to trust Summer. Besides, commanding three Pokémon simultaneously was challenging for her.

"Making plans? I don't like that—battles should be wild! Go, all of you!"

As Kuroda's three Pokémon prepared to act, two of them were immediately obstructed. Scrafty, holding up its sagging skin with one hand, blocked Houndoom with a middle finger. Liepard, with ghostly steps, stared down the sweating Grumpig like a hunter.

"Don't get in Summer's way. Your opponent is me," Marnie said.

While Marnie held off two Pokémon, Summer launched an attack with Thwackey.

"Thwackey, Grassy Terrain, then use Grassy Glide!"

"Feraligatr, use Ice Fang... Ugh, it's so fast!"

Feraligatr's mouth emitted cold air, but Thwackey had already reached it, kicking its belly. The pained Feraligatr tried to bite Thwackey but was stopped by the wooden sticks.

Unable to release the stored cold air, frost formed around Feraligatr's mouth. It swung its claws wildly as Thwackey somersaulted away from its attack range.

Meanwhile, Scrafty knocked Houndoom down with a Flying Knee Kick, even humiliating it while it lay on the ground. Grumpig, trying to use Psychic, was critically struck by Liepard's ambush.

"Damn, wait, those two Pokémon—no way!" Kuroda looked up, seeing Corviknight diving with Morpeko in its claws.

Caw! No one understands Morpeko better than I do! Taste Morpeko's power!

Morpeko, like a cannonball, was hurled down. The electricity in its cheeks formed an Aura Wheel mid-air, a signature move.

The electric Aura Wheel struck Feraligatr's head, leaving a scorched mark. It tried to grab the pesky mouse, but the speed boost from Aura Wheel made it miss.

"Damn, if it were a three-on-three..."

"Hmph, I thought you'd say three-on-one. Kuroda, your so-called free will requires strength. And your enemies aren't just us," Summer smiled, pointing behind Kuroda.

Before he could turn, a solid concrete pillar flew past him, smashing into Feraligatr's back. Conkeldurr had been freed by Corviknight, along with the Skarmory.

"What? How could a Pokémon break the restraints?" Kuroda sweated, shouting in disbelief.

"Caw!" Corviknight cawed mockingly. I'm a proud Corviknight, the smartest bird Pokémon. These devices are nothing.

Realizing the situation was dire, Kuroda ran to his truck, abandoning Feraligatr. Midway, he slowed down, despairing—the Skarmory had slashed the tires. How did these dumb birds know!

He turned sharply, seeing Corviknight smirking atop a tree. I directed them—so what?

Strength and intelligence are both needed to be worthy of being a strong leader. Under my command, even the Skarmory can be useful!
