บท 3: A SwordMaster and New Found Motivation

Dinner was quite the sense, Conrad mother Caroline continued to lecture both Conrad and her husband Albert, while they sat quietly except replied Yes. after dinner, Conrad hugs both and quickly runs towards his bedroom, where his maid is ready with a book at hand, he changes his clothes and rushes towards his bed and she begins to read as he listens and slowly drifts to sleep.

A few weeks later,

The mid-summer heat blazes as Conrad gazes through his window, observing the people of his city rushing through the streets. Some chat under the shade of trees planted along the sidewalks. Then, a figure appears—a man in his sixties, with black hair and a strong build. Muscles are visible even through his shirt, and he carries a sword on his back. As he gets closer, Conrad notices scars on his hand and a massive one on his face that cuts through his eye. Conrad's father, Albert, quickly rushes towards the man and bows. They exchange words, and then both enter the house.

Deep in thought, Conrad rushes downstairs to the main living room. He can hear his father talking with this unknown man, and behind him, his mother approaches and says, "You know it's not nice to eavesdrop."

Conrad goes and hugs her, and she picks him up, asking, "Who is he?"

She answers, "Why don't we find out?" They both enter the room and sit beside Albert. Conrad can feel the mystery man staring at him intensely.

Albert begins, "Conrad, this will be your new sword master. He will teach you everything about the sword. His name is Wilhelm. He is a former royal guard and a dear friend who has saved me in more ways than one."

Wilhelm nods his head. Conrad always knew this day was going to come. All nobles were required to know swordsmanship, but he assumed his father would be the one to teach him. He never imagined that this scary-looking man would do it instead. Wilhelm looks at Conrad for a while before speaking.

His voice is firm and clear. "We will start training tomorrow, at 6 in the morning."

Conrad looks surprised and thinks, "Well, there goes my sleep."

The next morning was brutal, to say the least. Conrad did not wake up at six, so Wilhelm crashed into his room and dumped cold, freezing water on him, forcing him to run in the back of the castle for an hour as punishment. Then came the stretching, endless stretching. By then, it was about eight o'clock, and then came the sword practice. Wilhelm gave Conrad a wooden sword, which looked pretty new (what Conrad didn't know was that the night before, after dinner, Wilhelm spent the night carving this sword for him). Wilhelm showed him the basics of swordsmanship. Drawing his sword, Wilhelm started to swing. He generated so much wind that it almost knocked Conrad down.

Conrad whispered, "This man is no joke."

The training went on until the sun was high in the sky, and then Wilhelm said, "Run a lap, and then you can go eat."

Conrad looked dumbfounded. "I know this is a fantasy world, but isn't this too much?" He started to run.

His maid, Ida, smiled a bit as he passed by. She was busy drying his bedsheets, which got wet as a result of Wilhelm dumping a bucket of water on them.

After eating lunch, the tired Conrad went back to his room and thought, "Well, that felt completely pointless. Should I tell Dad that I want to practice magic instead of swordsmanship? What's the point of this when I can just use magic?"

He pondered for a while, and then he realized, "Wait, the biggest disadvantage of being a mage is the fact that mages are weak in close combat fighting. But what if I could do swordsmanship and magic at the same time?" Conrad thought for a while and realized that no one in the Friend world was a magic swordsman. "HAHA! If I can cast both magic and fight in close combat, I will be OP as f-" With this newfound motivation, the days continued. He would practice swordsmanship in the morning and sneak into the forest to train his magic. With this, his life continued; days became weeks, and a few years passed in a flash.
