บท 109: Chapter 108: A Shield Buried in Ice (Edited!)
"How confident are you?" Bobbi asks as she was adjusting the altitude.
We both were inside the Ghostwing, flying to our destination.
"From the photos, very. But we still have to go there and confirm it ourselves," I reply seriously, as we were checking our coordinates.
"Hmm," Bobbi nods absentmindedly.
"I am sorry, our date keeps getting postponed," I say with a wry smile.
"Yeah, you just keep throwing your new girls at me to take care of them," Bobbi rolls her eyes at me in annoyance.
She's talking about Valeria and Sybil, whom I handed to her since no one else was free except Skye, and Skye can hardly take care of herself, so she was never an option.
"Uhm, they will be able to get out of your hair soon. It is just that this is a foreign country for them, and they don't know the language properly," I explain sheepishly.
"I am not a babysitter," Bobbi says looking ahead. "Still, Sage was easy to take care of, and Valeria is also fine, but the troublemaker is Sybil. She keeps wanting to go shopping, and when we go, she tells me to try on the most flashy, costly, and colourful clothes!" Bobbi says, shuddering.
"Yeah… Uhm, she likes that kind of stuff," I say with a wry smile.
"That gaudy golden white suit was also Sybil's idea, right?" Bobbi asks, looking at me with narrowed eyes.
Yeah, it was. She asked me to change the colours while giving me a striptease with her powers, and I couldn't look away or say no, so my 'Aeon's Super suit' ended up being golden and white-colored.
Instead of providing any explantation, I reduce the distance between us both and kiss her ear, her cheek, her neck.
"Haa… Haaa," Bobbi starts breathing heavily as she leaves the controls of the plane and starts kissing me.
I kiss her back, tasting her delicious lips, just as my hands move toward her breasts, D.A.I.S.Y.'s voice interrupts us both.
"We have reached the destination," D.A.I.S.Y. announces.
Leaving each others embrace, we both start preparing as the Ghostwing lands on the ground.
Wearing heavy winter clothes, we step out into the freezing wilderness. The cold is immediate and biting, the wind howling around us, carrying a flurry of snow that obscures our vision.
"Shit, this is so cold!" Bobbi exclaims as she walks ahead of me.
The visibility up ahead is terrible, and the temperature is extremely low too, with a light snowstorm going on.
This is the Arctic, with negative temperatures. We both use our flashlights and walk carefully on the ice. According to D.A.I.S.Y., the wreckage is just up ahead.
After walking just a couple of steps, we both see it.
"How did no one find… this until now?" Bobbi asks in wonder, looking at the huge metal thing in front.
"The landscape here keeps changing all the time," I reply absentmindedly, looking at what looks like just a part of the craft that is out of the ice.
"We will need a whole crew with many heavy machines to get this out. Should we go back?" Bobbi asks, looking ahead, trying to make out the hidden part that is buried underneath.
"Maybe, but right now let us both check it out first," I say as I touch the exposed cold metallic surface and use my power, Metal Constructs.
The metal folds and reshapes itself, forming a staircase leading inside the aircraft.
"So convenient," Bobbi remarks, impressed.
"Let's stay alert," I whisper, taking out my filter mask and wearing it. Bobbi nods and does the same.
Bobbi goes ahead of me, holding a gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other. I follow her, activating my other power Clairvoyance.
Inside the ship, it's dark and eerily silent. Ice covers every surface as we both use our torchlights to illuminate the surroundings.
As we venture further inside, we can make out the different sections of this aircraft and tons of rubble inside.
"Let's split up," I say, wanting to cover more ground. With the shield and NZT, I am not that worried about Bobbi's safety.
"Okay, I will contact you if I find anything," she says as she takes the opposite direction to mine.
Instead of blindly walking, I focus on my Clairvoyance power to sense the surroundings. Not finding anything of note here, I keep moving forward.
Soon, my Clairvoyance starts giving me a response from one direction. Going near, I flash my light on an object on the ground.
I kneel and remove the snow from its surface.
"Luke, you should come here. I think this is definitely the Hydra's Valkyrie ship. I am looking at multiple blue glowing bombs and weapons here," Bobbi's steady voice comes from my headset.
"Yeah, this is definitely the place," I say with a smile, looking at the object in front of me.
It is a shield, emblazoned with the Union Jack. My heart skips a beat. If her shield is here…
Just then, my Clairvoyance picks up a flow—a flow of some thick, viscous fluid. It is blood, but from my senses, it is flowing slowly… very slowly.
I keep the shield on the ground for now and follow my senses. After walking a couple of steps ahead, I stop.
"Bobbi, leave those weapons and come here," I speak in my communicator as the sight in front of me takes my breath away. There is a beautiful, muscular woman whose body is covered in a thin layer of ice. She wears a suit bearing the Union Jack.
"Come fast. She has waited long enough… Haven't you?…
Captain Carter!"
Yes, in front of me is Peggy Carter, still alive and frozen in time!
