The leader's words caught me off guard – Ning Hu gone? How is that possible, when just a short while ago he was arrogantly standing in front of me, nearly taking my life.
I turned to look at Cheng Yu and noticed a flicker of surprise in his eyes, along with a slight raise of his brows.
Seeing that expression, I knew this wasn't his doing – but who else could it be?
Questions flooded my mind when suddenly a guess popped into my head. As if on autopilot, I asked, "Did you see a man around 40, missing three fingers on his left hand?"
The man I described was one of Master Zhao's subordinates; he was right there when Ning Hu kidnapped me.
The leader glanced at Cheng Yu, who nodded before he said, "No."
"It must be Master Zhao, killing to silence someone," I shared my suspicion with Cheng Yu.
Ning Hu had let slip during the kidnapping; today's charade was Master Zhao's doing – I just didn't understand why he would go to such great lengths for me.
