A New World

As soon as Liam clicked "Yes," everything around him vanished. His vision, his touch, his smell—he could no longer perceive anything. He was plunged into complete darkness.

Liam's mind raced with questions: What's happening?

Time seemed to stretch into an eternity, and the feeling of having no control over himself and no sensory input was torture for Liam.

He wondered: Is this death? An endless desolation, just me and my thoughts?

He longed to feel something, even pain, anything but this sensory void.

Time passed, and Liam had no idea how long had elapsed. He talked to himself to keep from losing his mind.

"What is life? Are we really dead if we can still think? I think, therefore I am, but if we're dead, are we still something?"

"Why do we say 'like a fish in water'? It's weird to compare ourselves to fish, especially since we don't even live in water... We should say 'like a human in air'?"

"Sometimes I think about all the tourists who have asked me for directions. I wonder what they're up to..."

As he lost himself in his own ramblings, a flash of light blinded him in the darkness.

A bright white message appeared in the void.

"Congratulations, you have arrived on your new world. Survive."

The message hung there for a moment, then faded away, leaving Liam stunned.

As the darkness receded, replaced by a dim twilight, Liam's senses returned to him in a rush.

"Urghh," he groaned, taking a deep breath of fresh air that filled his dry throat.

He exhaled, a cloud of mist escaping his mouth, and then inhaled through his nose, the scent of pine and damp earth filling his nostrils.

His body felt strange, unfamiliar.

He quickly touched his chest and legs, realizing he was naked and his body was rather stiff. His eyes adjusted to the dim light, and he noticed that his skin was pale, almost corpse-like. He had a slender build with lean muscles and large hands and chest.

"This isn't my body," Liam murmured.

The cool outside air seemed to cause condensation to form in his respiratory tract, but surprisingly, he didn't feel cold.

A notification suddenly appeared in the air, floating within his field of vision.

<Initializing System>

"What is this thing?"

<System Initialized>

The notifications disappeared and were replaced by a text display.

[Species : Lesser Vampire

Strength: 15

Dexterity: 15

Constitution: 15

Intelligence: 10

Willpower: 8

Charisma: 10

Skills: Blood absorption]

Liam stared at the text display, his mind reeling with questions. Where was he? What was this place? What were these strange numbers and words?

He felt a surge of panic rising within him, but he quickly took a deep breath to calm himself down. He had to think clearly.

Liam tore his gaze away from the unsettling display of his stats and focused on his lone skill: "Blood Absorption?"

As the thought flickered in his mind, a description materialized before him.

[Blood Absorption:

The Lesser Vampire enhances its physical abilities by draining victims' blood.

Drinking blood temporarily boosts strength, agility, and endurance, with greater boosts from more powerful victims.

Large or frequent feedings can lead to permanent enhancements, with the effect being more pronounced the stronger the victim.]

"Incredible, I'm a real vampire," Liam thought, a mix of awe and trepidation coursing through him.

He scanned his surroundings once more. Towering trees, their branches a dense canopy overhead. Only the whisper of leaves and the occasional chirp of hidden birds broke the absolute silence.

Liam took a step forward, testing his new body. He moved slowly at first, his muscles stiff and unused. But as he moved more, he felt a sense of strength and agility that he hadn't experienced before. He realized his base stats were probably higher than the human average, which he assumed to be around 10. This explained the surprising power in his movements.

Liam's heart pounded in his chest as he ran through the dimly lit forest, the cool night air whipping through his hair and the soft earth cushioning his footsteps. The sensation of his new body was exhilarating, a symphony of strength, speed, and agility he had never experienced before.

He pushed himself harder, his muscles burning with exertion but fueled by an insatiable thirst for more. The forest seemed to blur around him as he raced through the undergrowth, his senses heightened, attuned to every rustle of leaves and snap of a twig.

Above, the star-studded sky peeked through the canopy of leaves, casting a soft, ethereal glow upon the forest floor. Liam glanced up briefly, catching a glimpse of the twinkling lights.

But as the minutes stretched into an eternity, a wave of weakness washed over him. His initial surge of energy had waned, replaced by a gnawing hunger and thirst that grew more intense with each passing moment.

A primal instinct took hold, guiding his steps towards the sound of running water. He stumbled through the dense foliage, his heart pounding in his chest, his mind clouded by the need to satiate his growing hunger.

Emerging from the trees, he stumbled upon a small stream, its gentle murmur a beacon in the silent forest. He fell to his knees, his hands cupping the cool, clear water. He brought it to his lips, desperate to quench his thirst.

But as the water touched his tongue, a wave of revulsion surged through him. His body recoiled, violently rejecting the life-giving liquid. He spat out the water, a bitter taste lingering on his tongue.

"My body rejects water," he realized, a chilling thought echoing in his mind.

His gaze fell upon the stream, where a small fish darted through the flowing water. Its scales shimmered in the moonlight, its fins propelling it upstream with effortless grace.

His stomach churned, his instincts warring with his conscience. He was a vampire, a creature of the night, a predator.

His vision blurred, the world around him taking on a crimson hue. The fish swam closer, unaware of the predator lurking in the shadows.

Liam's body moved on its own, a primal instinct taking over. He lunged into the water, his hand snatching the unsuspecting fish from its watery home. Its scales scraped against his skin, its fins fluttering weakly as he brought it to his mouth.

He sank his teeth into the fish's flesh, its blood warm and metallic on his tongue. A wave of satisfaction washed over him, the hunger pangs subsiding as the life force of the creature flowed into him.

Liam closed his eyes, savoring the sensation. The fish's blood was a potent elixir, quenching his thirst and hunger in an instant. He felt a surge of strength coursing through his veins, his senses heightened, his body invigorated.

As he opened his eyes, the world around him seemed sharper, more vibrant. The forest was no longer a dark and menacing place but his hunting ground, where no detail escaped him—from the movement of insects in the soil to the faint fluttering of nocturnal birds' wings.

Liam rose from the stream, his body dripping with water. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, a lingering taste of blood on his lips.

The sensation was unlike anything Liam had ever experienced.

It was wonderful.

"I need more," Liam murmured. "I need more blood."
