The morning sunlight slipped through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as I slowly stirred awake. Carmen's arm was draped over me, holding me close as if she wasn't about to let me out of bed any time soon.
I stretched, attempting to gently slide out from under her arm without waking her, but the moment I moved, Carmen's grip tightened, pulling me right back down.
"Where do you think you're going?" she mumbled, her voice a husky whisper, still half-asleep.
I laughed softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I have to get ready for school, remember?"
She opened one eye, smirking. "School, schmool," she muttered, burying her face into the pillow beside me. "Stay a little longer."
I rolled my eyes, but a grin crept onto my face as I managed to wriggle free and sit up. "You know I can't skip every class," I said, ruffling her hair playfully.
