Emily was there on the screen in front of Alex, her long hair framing her face, wearing the pale blue dress she always loved. The sight of her made his heart race, or at least it felt that way. He could "see" her. She was speaking to him, her voice soft, telling him how much she missed him, that she wished he'd wake up soon.
It took him a moment to realize what was happening—why the dress was so familiar. His mind was recreating the image of Emily from that party in high school. It was a memory, one he hadn't revisited in years. But just as he was about to reach for that thought, Emily's appearance flickered on the screen.
Suddenly, she was wearing something else—a cream sweater, soft and cozy. Her voice continued, unchanged, as if she hadn't noticed the shift. Alex blinked again, trying to make sense of it. His heart pounded in his chest as the truth dawned on him.
