บท 137: The use of pistons
Virtya watched as the workers raised the foundation of the glass plant and and it was around 7pm that the workers finished the job.
"...Tommorow, wake up early for work and I can assure you that there will be a nice meal for those who will be the first ones to be here. I want this factory to be ready by 15th October and that is why I am bringing it up very fast. Do a good job and you will be rewarded. Is there anyone with a question or suggestion? If there isn't, then you are dismissed." Luiza Dorosh said to the assembled workers. Luiza was one of the supervisors at this site and she was helping Virtya to construct this plant.
On the other hand, as the workers dispersed, Virtya and his cohort climbed onto their horses and left.
Virtya was not going back to Whiten and he would be sleeping in one of the houses that was set aside for his leave.
On the morning of the next day, Virtya went back to the site after having his breakfast and he found out that the workers were already on site and they were removing the steel sheets used for the formwork of the columns. The concrete had already stack together.
On this day, Virtya was going to use the refractory bricks and the refractory cement, a day before, Virtya used the ordinary cement and the cut out stone blocks because he was only building the foundation.
One should know that it was expensive to manufacture the refractory bricks and the refractory cement. The refractory cement was merely a mixture of the ordinary cement, alumina and silica so that the cement could survive the high temperatures of the furnace.
[It seems like we are building a building block just like those tall structures that they call the apartment blocks.]
[You might be right, but I think there is a difference this time. Look at those bricks. They are different though. I have been transporting the several stuffs to that warehouse and I can say that what is going to be built here is something different. It is like a building that would be run by a certain mechanism. I don't know what would be done here but let's see... I am still confused.]
[You guys don't know a thing. Your father I has been working in close proximity with lady Luiza and I heard her saying that this building would be used to manufacture brew. Ooh damn! I can't wait to be the first person to taste the brew that would come from this house.]
[All of you are simpletons. Just look at the the design of this foundation. I think you are missing something. This design is like something akin to a factory like the cement plant. It doesn't even look close to a house to me. I think it is something different.]
[I don't know what king Virtya is building but I will have to draw every step that they will take in building this structure. This information might help me somewhere. Who knows that if it is something great, maybe I might sell this information for a good price.]
Virtya stood aside as he watched the construction of the regenerator. This chamber would be independent from the glass plant and Virtya would be using large diameter cast iron pipes to connect the furnace with the regenerator.
The construction of the regeneration chamber was not that hard as the workers only needed to build a cylindrical shaped tower made of refractory bricks. A large cylindrical space was left at the middle of the tower and this cylindrical space passed through the upper opening end downwards to the other end.
However, the upper opened end would have a hooper where the coal would be loaded while the lower end would be made of perforated refractory bricks which would allow ash from the coal to be let out.
