บท 64: Cement production (1(
Very early in the morning even before Virtya arrived, the workers were devided into three groups with each group consisting of at least close to 4,000 people.
The first and the biggest group of all had 6,000 workers with all of them being the mixture of slaves and the prisoners. One should know that the prisoners were all chained and escorted everywhere they were required by several knights.
But on this day, all the prisoners with some of the slaves were being lectured on what they were going to do.
"Listen you fools, I will not repeat myself, I will only say this at once." Osip Minsky said arrogantly to the assembled slaves and the prisoners. Clearly, Osip who currently resided in Whiten, he was once a gang leader from Polkok and he had managed to rise through the ranks up to where he was now because of his hardwork. A few months ago, Osip was simply a mason who was overhauling dilapidated buildings to be used as classrooms for the learners but because Osip was always an overly ambitious guy, he was not just satisfied with being a mason, thus, he chosed to work part time in the construction sites and when he found some free time, he would attend classes in Whiten and with his active brain that quickly absorbed this new knowledge, he became literate in no time.
When it came a time to choose a literate person among the masons so that they could supervise the other masons, Osip turned out to be among the chosen few individuals who were not only masons but also they were literate, thus, Osip climbed the ladder from being a mere mason to be a supervisor in the construction sites, from there, Osip was still not satisfied and he continued to attend the part time classes where he learned more about civil engineering. Through learning, Osip became the most educated person in the construction sector. From now, Osip could easily come up with civil engineering ideas which made him to be among the selected few from the many applicants as a person who will ensure that the cement plant came to being.
Currently, Osip was already given the details on what he was supposed to do and he didn't waver just because he would be supervising more than 6000 people, he remained nonchalant and he was even a bit arrogant when he saw that the knights were respectful towards him and allowed him to steer the 6,000 workers the way he liked.
Osip was over the moon, in the past when he was a goon, he used to lord over a mere 50 gangsters but right now, he was bossing over 6, 000 workers and his earnings per day was so fat in that Osip thought that he could buy the whole of Whiddiff city if this continues, thus, how could Osip not be cocky?
"Today, we will be fetching sand from Golton's shores to this place. You should know that we don't have many carriages that will be transporting that sand here, thus, his majesty has come up with the trick of using rollers and the wagons. You will be pushing the wagons that are carring sand from Golton sea shores upto here in the Eastern Polkok and from here, there will be another group that will be carrying that sand to the storage facilities in the Western Polkok where the cement plant will be situated. No complaints or laziness would be entertained." Osip finished with a smile. There was a murmur after hearing his arrogant speech as the workers didn't like what they have heard.
Do you know that it would take more than 40 kilometer distance to travel between the Eastern Polkok and Golton harbour, how could the workers be calm when they knew that they would be carrying loads on their backs all that way.
"I feel like my head is spinning. Will I be able to walk again after this?"
"Poor me. Who told me to disguise myself as a slave? I should have known better than anyone that no one holds pity towards the slaves."
"I feel like I should just run away from all this shit. Is carrying loads of cargo on our backs from Golton to Polkok even possible?"
