Chapter 93: "The Tale of Peter Pettigrew!"

Life is always full of helplessness.

Even Voldemort, the second-generation Dark Lord who once ravaged the wizarding world, had to bow down to it.

While Voldemort's fragmented soul cursed the cowardly Peter Pettigrew for betraying him, it had no choice but to pursue the nearest rat to avoid the torment of his disembodied soul.

To escape the pain, Voldemort had to parasitize that rat, an act that only added to his humiliation.

On Christmas Eve, while everyone else was celebrating, the Dark Lord could only endure this disgrace.

What enraged Voldemort more than the humiliation was the cowardice of Peter Pettigrew, who not only betrayed him but also destroyed two of his Horcruxes.

Recalling the scene when his Horcruxes were destroyed, the memory of the fat, ugly man mocking him from afar still burned in Voldemort's mind. He remembered Peter's words clearly:

"Merry Christmas, here's a gift for you."

While seething with anger, Voldemort also felt a trace of fear. He knew he had made only five Horcruxes—six if he counted Harry Potter. With a third of them destroyed, he needed to return to the wizarding world before more could be destroyed. However, the forests of Albania offered no solace or help.

While Voldemort fumed, Wilson Wright was in high spirits.

After destroying two of Voldemort's Horcruxes, the Christmas operation initiated by Dumbledore could be declared a success. The night had been quite fruitful for Wilson.

Especially since he had just received his greatest reward.

Compared to these rewards, today's exploration at Hogwarts was trivial. Even destroying two of Voldemort's Horcruxes didn't compare to this one prize.

Wilson pulled out the black gem he had taken from the Horcrux ring, a gleam in his eye. Was this one of the legendary Deathly Hallows?

The Resurrection Stone.

The Resurrection Stone had been hidden in the Gaunt family's old home, embedded in a simple black ring. No one had realized its true nature.

[Hidden Quest: Obtain one of the Deathly Hallows—the Resurrection Stone (1/1). Quest complete. Reward: 1000 life points, 5000 magic points, magical skill Death Contract, magical trait Rebirth, magical spell Summon Soul.]

Even without considering the skills, the attributes from collecting the Resurrection Stone were astounding!

If Wilson had acquired the Resurrection Stone when he first came to this world, he could have become an immensely powerful wizard immediately.

Frankly speaking, the attribute bonuses nearly doubled his magical power, bringing it to an unprecedented height. Wilson even felt tempted to challenge Dumbledore.

However, compared to the skills, the attribute rewards seemed less significant.

[Death Contract: Passive skill. Upon death, the user can exist as a spirit for 7 minutes, during which they can cast any spell without expending magical energy.]

What a remarkable ability.

Even Wilson had to marvel at this peculiar skill. It granted him a way to exact vengeance upon his killer, ensuring they would pay dearly.

And then?

Wilson could simply revive.

[Rebirth: Passive magical trait. Upon death, the user can be resurrected, fully restoring their state but reducing their maximum life points by 200 and magic points by 500 each time. If the maximum points are insufficient for revival, Rebirth can no longer be used.]

This trait brought great peace of mind.

Despite Wilson's usual caution, he couldn't guarantee his safety.

With Rebirth, even if Voldemort ambushed him with the Killing Curse, Wilson could rely on this skill to return.

Of course, given Voldemort's pride, such a scenario seemed unlikely.

As long as no one camped his corpse, Wilson could ensure his survival. Even if someone did, he could combine Rebirth with Death Contract, using powerful magic continuously in his spirit form.

No one...

Could withstand that.

Although the price was steep.

Wilson's costs were significant, but the enemy's would be greater. Coincidentally, Wilson also acquired a soul-summoning spell.

[Summon Soul: The Resurrection Stone's owner can summon a deceased person's soul by chanting their name and silently recalling their information. The duration the soul remains depends on the caster's magical power. Even the most powerful caster cannot keep a soul indefinitely.]

This spell was indeed terrifying.

Even Wilson had to admit it granted him the ability to converse with anyone, as many had someone they longed to see again.

Now.

They could.

This spell naturally couldn't be used lightly.

Not everyone wished to disturb the dead.

However, Wilson alone possessed this ability, making the situation slightly awkward.

No.

Not right.

It wasn't disturbing the dead.

It was fulfilling dreams as a benevolent emissary.

With this mindset, Wilson felt much better.

Besides these, there were rewards for destroying the Horcruxes.

[Hidden Quest: Destroy a Horcrux—the fragment of Voldemort's soul in Ravenclaw's diadem (1/1). Quest complete. Reward: 100 life points, 1000 magic points.]

[Hidden Quest: Destroy a Horcrux—the fragment of Voldemort's soul in the Gaunt's black ring (1/1). Quest complete. Reward: 100 life points, 1000 magic points.]

These attribute boosts made Wilson a bit tempted.

If he could capture Voldemort in the future, could he make him create more Horcruxes?

Maybe he could test this when he became stronger, though it seemed somewhat unethical.

Of course.

This feeling was easy to overcome.

By reminding himself that Voldemort was despicable, Wilson quickly felt no guilt.

Moreover.

It seemed fewer people were paying attention to Voldemort.

A day after the Christmas event.

The entire front page of the Daily Prophet reported the escape of the first Dark Lord, Grindelwald, and the rise of the third Dark Lord, Peter Pettigrew!

Rita Skeeter wrote the article.

After Grindelwald seized her wand in Godric's Hollow and attacked her with it, she feared and hated the Dark Lord.

So, Rita Skeeter's article described Grindelwald's power extensively, almost as if praising him.

Only at the end did she subtly question Dumbledore's actions in releasing Grindelwald, hinting at possible old affections.

Compared to her past writings, Rita Skeeter was quite restrained.

She feared Grindelwald might actually kill her if she went too far!

However.

Grindelwald's name was largely forgotten.

Compared to that, the rise of the third Dark Lord, Peter Pettigrew, was more sensational!

Dumbledore even gave an interview to the Daily Prophet, calmly recounting Peter Pettigrew's past.

This led to an entire edition of the Daily Prophet being almost dedicated to Peter Pettigrew's story.

A massive headline dominated the paper:

"Seventeen Years of Patience: The Rise of the Third Dark Lord!"

Beneath this headline were two photos of Peter Pettigrew. One showed him looking very meek and timid, while the other depicted him floating above Hogwarts, fiercely declaring this era as his.

To get this photo, the Daily Prophet extracted the best angle from an Auror's memory using Legilimency.

[From the beginning, Peter Pettigrew always appeared extremely cowardly, making others lower their guard. Clearly, he succeeded. Even the Sorting Hat was deceived by his pretense...]

[Behind Pettigrew's cowardice lay deep desires and selfish ambition. He longed to become a great figure, like the Dark Lord, commanding the wizarding world. He greedily absorbed knowledge at school...]

[Many failed to notice his danger, even deceiving Albus Dumbledore's sharp eyes. Dumbledore admitted he misjudged Pettigrew...]

[To achieve his goals, Pettigrew joined the Dark Lord, becoming a secret spy. No one knew his true identity. Thus, Pettigrew moved between the Order of the Phoenix and the Dark Lord, gaining the latter's trust.]

[Finally, Pettigrew found his chance. Years of patience paid off. He didn't hesitate to kill his school friends, the Potters...]

[When the prophecy about a boy born in July who would defeat the Dark Lord emerged, Pettigrew discovered Lily Potter knew a sacrificial spell that could defeat the Dark Lord. Lily and James Potter's son, Harry, born in July, became the target...]

[The prophecy caught the Dark Lord's attention.]

[Pettigrew exploited his friends' trust, having Sirius Black replace him as the Potters' Secret Keeper. He immediately betrayed their location to the Dark Lord. The Dark Lord, a master of schemes, didn't realize the trap...]

"...What a load of nonsense."

Wilson nearly choked on his tea reading the paper.

The content was absurdly far-fetched.

Even blaming Sirius Black on Peter Pettigrew?

Wilson's eye twitched as he read: "Is the Daily Prophet planning a solo novel on Peter Pettigrew? They've picked the wrong protagonist."
