บท 12: chapter 12

Hello everyone, I'm here with a new chapter. I finished this chapter early because I won't have time to write next week. I would be happy if you support me on my pa(tre)on account.

Armando Dippet point of view

I was pacing the corridors. I hope what I heard was just a bad arse joke. Petrified people and writing on the wall in red paint. The worst thing is that the wards didn't warn me, according to the seventh year students who informed me, they couldn't solve the petrified students despite using all the charms and curse-breaking spells they could, and the wards should have warned me when such a powerful spell was used within the school grounds. If someone had found a way past the Hogwarts wards, it was a disaster.

Almost the entire young generation of magical Britain was studying at Hogwarts. It would be extremely bad for both the reputation of Hogwarts and the safety of the students if someone broke into the school and attacked them, especially when the whole of Europe was burning due to the effects of the war.

As we contemplated the seriousness of the incident and the possible consequences, we had already unwittingly reached the third floor corridor where, in a more deserted corner of the corridor, suspiciously close to a broom cupboard, two students froze as they stared at a shiny suit of armour. I recognised Mr Warden and Miss Thomson, both sixth formers, and on the wall behind them was the writing in bright red letters, as described to me.

'ENEMIES OF THE HEIR. CHAMBER OF SECRETS OPENED. TREMBLE WITH FEAR.'

I heard Merrythought swearing behind me.

"Shit. What the fuck happened here?"

That's what I'm wondering. I hope I can get answers, but first I signaled to the divination professor to take the students who were still here to their dormitories.

As soon as the students were gone, I turned to Merrythought, who was trying to decipher the curse used on the petrified students.

"How are the students doing?"

Merrythought "I need some items from my office for a more detailed examination, but from the initial results I don't think a student can do it. The curse is too strong for a young wizard, and I'm afraid we'll need a vial of mandrake potion to dissolve the students."

Armando said, "The wards have not reported an intruder. The attacker must be from inside the school."

Merrythought "As I said, a young wizard is too weak to cast a curse of this level, and as I recall, all the professors were in the great hall."

A possible explanation is that someone could get past the Hogwarts wards and sneak in, but that should be impossible. Albus has told me before that not even he could sneak in, and he's an archmage on the higher end of the spectrum.

Armando said, "I'll take them to the hospital wing, you get your things and come there. Call Albus on the way."

He nodded and turned round. After erasing the writing on the wall, I took the petrified students and set off for the hospital wing.

I was waiting in the hospital wing for Merrythought, Albus and the healer Helgadottir to examine the petrified students. Unfortunately, dark arts and healing are not my speciality. After a while, they left the students and came to me. I couldn't stand it any longer and entered the conversation.

"What is the situation?"

"Merrythought is right, we will need a mandrake potion to heal them.Apart from that, they are under a powerful petrification curse."

Turning to Slughorn, I said, "As soon as the mandrake at the school is ripe, we will prepare the potions and heal them.Anything else."

Helgadottir "Nothing extra on my part."

Merrythought-Albus "It was almost certainly not done by a student or a professor."

Beery " Then who did it. Did someone actually find a way round the school's wards?"

Albus "Our investigations with Merrythought suggest that it was a magical beast that attacked."

Steffonson "If it is a magical beast, the situation becomes more complicated. Very few magical beasts have enough magical knowledge to cross wards. Hell, 99 per cent of them can't even use magic except for their innate abilities. It should be impossible for them to fool the wards without help from the inside."The situation was getting more and more complicated, but Steffonson had a point. In fact, this reminded me of something that I had noticed at the time but did not care about.

"Steffonson may be right. It was too easy to remove the writing from the wall. At the time, I thought that it was a human who petrified the students, so I thought that he did not take care of the writing, but if it was a magical beast that cursed the students, it makes sense."

Merrythought "The monster petrified it.The student wrote the inscription. It makes sense, but there is still a problem. No student would be skilled enough to fool the wards at this level."

"Kettleburn, do you have anything to say? After all, magical beasts are your speciality."

Kettleburn said, "The number of magical creatures with such a powerful petrification curse is extremely small, those that can be actively trained even smaller, and none of them are native to Britain. If the beast is acting alone, there are even fewer that can fool the wards in this way."

Albus "What if it doesn't need to fool the wards?"

"What do you mean, Albus?"

Albus said, "As far as I know, the giant squid was raised by Godric Gryffindor in the big lake to protect the school. That's why the wards don't see him as an enemy. Considering the legend of the Chamber of Secrets, there may be a similar situation."

Raskalov "Chamber of secrets? I've never heard of it before. Is it common knowledge in Magic Britain?"

Slughorn "Not exactly common knowledge. To explain; do you know the story of the foundation of the school? How Salazar Slytherin had to leave the school, etc."

Raskalov " Of course I do."

Slughorn "According to the legend of the Chamber of Secrets, Slytherin left behind a secret room for his successor, with a terrifying monster lurking inside. According to the legend, Slytherin's heir will open the chamber and cleanse the school of muggle-borns and blood traitors."

Slughorn said these words almost mockingly. It was obvious that he didn't believe in the legend. Although I didn't believe it either.

Albus said, "Headmaster, you'll need to check the wardroom and the ward stone."

"I'll do the necessary checks, but I don't think I'll be able to achieve anything in this case. Some of the wards in the school are very old and we can fix and repair them, but neither I nor the board have almost no control over certain wards. The founders didn't leave things to chance. While I check the wards, all the professors will search the school in pairs for secret passages and magical monsters. I expect search results by morning. Dismissed."

Rubeus Hagrid's point of view

I was pacing back and forth in the large hall of the mansion. When I came to my room after the banquet, I came straight here.

Radagian said, "Would you calm down? There was nothing you could do."

"I know that, I know that from a logical point of view I am innocent, but I'm afraid that conscience is not so logical." Towards the end of my sentence, my voice was getting louder, and at the end I was literally shouting at Radagian.

Radagian said, "You are not to blame. All you can do is wait for the right time. Take down that Riddle brat."

I had been sitting here arguing with Radagian for half an hour, or rather I was shouting and swearing at Riddle while he was trying to calm me down.

Radagian said, "What are you going to do now?"

"There is nothing I can do. I'm going to spend more time in the second floor corridor while I practise more magic, just in case Riddle makes a mistake that helps me catch him sooner than I planned."

Radagian "It's a dangerous course of action, Riddle might try to attack you if he thinks you're following him."

"That's a risk I have to take in the current situation."

Radagian said, "Suit yourself. As long as you're not dead, you can do what you want. I don't want to wait a few centuries for another heir."

"Thank you for trusting me and supporting me."

Veronica Raskalov point of view

After my patrol at school, I gave my report to the headmaster and returned to my room. I poured myself a glass of firewhiskey and sat on the armchair in my room, thinking about what had happened today. What a day in Merlin's name!

Unfortunately, I hadn't found anything during my patrol and neither had the professor of ancient runes who had patrolled with me. Arthur Anticrun was a wealth of knowledge. In addition to his knowledge of runes and their uses, he also had a vast knowledge of history. In particular, he had an impressive knowledge of magical legends. As such, during the patrol I tried to learn as much as I could about the legend of the Chamber of Secrets.

The situation was a complete mess. Normally, I wouldn't have cared too much since I could protect myself from all kinds of magical beasts, but my purpose for coming to school was changing things. All the prophecies kept pointing to Rubeus Hagrid as the solution to my curse. At first, my plan was to slowly approach the boy and discover the solution to the curse. Now things have become quite complicated. Rubeus Hagrid was a half-blood. According to some interpretations of the legend, the heir could also attack Hagrid. My plans will have to be brought forward, to say the least. What I'm afraid of is that the boy will be startled by my sudden approach and put distance between us. As I was thinking about how to approach Hagrid, I let a small chuckle escape from my mouth with an idea that came to my mind. Yes, I don't need to be polite, there is no problem that a few drops of veriteserum can't solve, after all, the prophecy directs me to a treasure or a book that the boy probably has. In that case, I don't need to get on the child's good side. I can find out where the treasure or book is and then buy it, by force if necessary, or by money.
