บท 7: Chapter 6: Identity
3rd POV:
Inside the ruined city of Tarkov, where there are a lot of scav running around to look for loot and riches, Mercenary doing their objective and trying to survive, and warlords competing for their territories inside Tarkov.
In the midst of the ruined and abandoned city, we can see a young girl and a man walking through the street while trying to avoid any scav around them.
While on their walk, the sky is turning dark and a drop of water falls into Alex's head, seeing this he brings the young girl to an abandoned building complex and rests there to wait until the rain stops.
Entering the building Alex pried the door open and noticed the door was locked, he told the girl to stand back and breach the door with a kick.
*CRASH*
The door suddenly broke open for them to go in and they proceeded to go inside the room to rest, seeing the room was untouched by the locals Alex began to loot for supplies and food.
While Alex looks around for supplies, the girl sits on a sofa while waiting patiently for Alex to finish looting the room, a sudden growl comes from the girl's belly indicating that she is hungry, Alex notices the girl is hungry and sees a stove inside the kitchen, going up to the stove he surprises the stove still have gas in it, with this Alex begin to open up his bag and pull out 2 small can of tushonka and begin to heat it with a cooking pot he found at the kitchen drawer.
The sound of rain comes down heavily outside the building and hits the window glass, the girl turns her head and watches the droplets coming down the windows reminiscing about her life before the incident happened.
Alex coming out from the kitchen saw the girl looking sad and sighed at how war could take this young girl's peaceful life away just because a company is sickening, hearing a sound of steps coming towards her, she saw Alex coming towards her with 2 bowls of soup in his hand.
"(in Russian)Here eat up, we will wait here until the rain stops", Alex gave the girl the bowl and sat down next to her while scooping up the chunk of meat into his mouth, she looked down at the soup and take a bite of the weird process meat to her mouth.
she grimaces at the taste of the soup and wants to throw the food right away, but her bellies protest her to keep eating and she continues to eat it while ignoring the weird aftertaste in each bite.
Alex seeing the girl struggle to eat the soup, gives her a bottle of water to wash down the food,"(in Russian) drink the water, it will help you swallow the food down", opening the cap, she begins to drink down the water and finish her food.
After both of them were done eating, Alex tried to strike up a conversation with the girl,"(in Russian) So kid, what's your name?", she turned her head towards Alex and replied.
"(in Russian) My name is Masha, what about you mister ?"
"(in Russian) You can call me Alex or Aleksy if you want, a Russian friend of mine calls me that for some reason, call me whatever and drop the mister", she notices Alex's weird way of talking and asks him a question.
"(in Russian) Alex, you are not from around here aren't you? your way of speaking is weird", Alex gives her a laugh and begins to explain why his accent is weird.
"(in Russian) yeah that's because I'm from the United States, I'm still learning Russian from an old dictionary, so don't expect much.", Alex then takes a sip of water to satisfy his thirst, but the word comes from the girl surprise him.
"(in Russian) Oh!, so you are from the burger country right?, my papa told me people from America eat a lot", Alex then burst the water from his mouth and coughed for air, the girl laughed at my reaction.
"(in Russian) That's not funny Masha... I mean you are not wrong about that, back in the US a normal portion can be called a family meal here, your dad just told you to stop eating sweets all the time", wiping his mouth, Alex sees Masha look sad all of a sudden when he mentions her dad.
"(in Russian) Hey kid something wrong? Why do you look sad? Is it the soup ?", Alex sees that Masha begins to sniffle her nose.
"(in Russian) *sniff* no, it's just I miss my Papa, he told me to hide and would come back to me, but since then he hasn't come back to me, do I do something wrong, Alex?". Alex put his hand on Masha's head and gave her a head pat.
"(in Russian) Hey don't cry Masha, don't blame yourself like this, your dad just lost like you and now trying his best to find you", Alex gets up from the sofa and puts his knee down to match his height to masha face, he looks straight to her eyes while holding her small hands gently.
"(in Russian) Listen to me Masha, I promise that you will meet your dad again, we just need to get you to meet a person that will help you to get you out of this city", she wiped her tears and nodded her head at my words.
"(in Russian) Okay Alex, I trust you, but who is this person we meeting?", Alex then reminisces about an old lady who helps his gameplay on EFT throughout each wipe and buys a lot of medical stuff from her.
"(in Russian) She is a medic who helps a civilian that is still trapped inside the city just like you, a bit crazy at some point but she genuinely likes to help people in need ", she shows a little concern about the crazy part but she knows there is a chance for her to reunite with her dad.
Suddenly the sound of rain begins to fade away and the sky is slowly clearing up, alex then packs up everything and tells Masha to get ready.
"(in Russian) Get ready for another trip Masha, we need to get there before sundown, grab everything, and put it inside the bag", Alex then checks on his shotgun while Masha helps Alex put the supplies inside his bag.
Ready to go outside again, Alex checks his map and sees they are almost near the Tarkov hospital, but they need to pass the ground zero map to get there.
Alex knows is risky for them to pass there but it's the only way to get to the hospital faster, Masha looks at Alex's concerned face but Alex shakes away his fear and smiles at her to tell her is all okay.
"(in Russian) We are almost there Masha, a 20-minute walk from here and we go there in no time", putting the map back, Alex and Masha begin to walk through the ground zero maps.
Both of them cautiously walk through the city block, passing a flaming building to their left, they can see a big hospital in the distance.
Masha then happily points the hospital to Alex but the celebration is cut short by a bullet passing near them, in a panic Alex grabs Masha's hands and runs for cover.
Both of them take cover behind a car and Alex tries to peek where the shot comes from, the feeling of dread comes to Alex when he sees a group of seven scav going towards their position.
Another bullet passes Alex's head and he instantly ducks down to take cover, he looks beside him to see a terrified Masha covering her ear from the loud gunshot, holding his shotgun tightly, Alex then tries to formulate a plan to get both of them out from here.
Alex then remembered the F1 Grenade on his rig and pulled out the pineapple-shaped grenade in his hand.
"(in Russian) Masha, when you hear an explosion we both run towards the hospital alright?", she then nodded at Alex's instruction and Alex waited for them to get closer.
The sound of scav is getting closer, hearing this Alex then pulls the pin on the grenade and pops out from his cover to throw the grenade at them.
"Take these nade you son of b*tches", Alex threw the F1 grenade at them at breakneck speed and landed at the center of the group.
"(In Russian) Sh*t!! GRAN-"
*BOOM*
The explosion launched a lot of shrapnels that instantly killed two of them and injured one guy near the explosion radius, the rest jumped to the ground and were safe from the incoming shrapnels.
Hearing the explosion Alex and Masha rush toward the hospital without looking back, the scavs begin to get up and start shooting at the running duo.
The sound of whizzing bullets makes the both of them run faster, but all of a sudden one of the scavs got a lucky hit on Alex's legs making him fall to the ground.
"Sh-Sh*t AGHH my F*cking legs!!", Hearing Alex cry in pain, she stops in her tracks and tries to go back to help Alex but the rain of bullets makes her freeze like a statue.
Alex while in pain saw Masha standing still with a terrified face, he forced himself to get up and push both of them behind a concrete barrier.
He pushes his body behind the concrete barrier and sees Masha looking at his wound in shock, losing her focus Alex shakes Masha's shoulder to wake her up from her shock.
"(in Russian) Masha run towards the hospital right now and find help, sh*t", a bullet just hit their cover and he began to fire back with his shotgun, "(in Russian) I'll hold them off, just don't look back and keep going".
Seeing how serious Alex was in this dire situation, she began to run again without looking back promising to get help fast, alex then tried to suppress the scavs with his shotgun and try to distract them away from Masha.
With a couple of shots from his shotgun, he heard the gun now empty, taking cover again he saw the young girl running towards the hospital and finally entered the building safely, Alex sighed in relief.
Masha now is safe, he never thought he would be in a situation like this, he broke his rule to survive just to help this girl go back to her family at the risk of killing himself, but it was all worth it.
during his past life, he never did anything good or made his parent proud, he only holed up in his room and played games on his computer all night because he didn't know what to do with his life, he only played games to fill his empty life.
But when he got transported inside Tarkov, his life was filled with goals to survive and live in another day, it's an eye-opening experience for him but Tarkov also affected his sanity to the breaking point of killing people just to survive.
Only at the time when he saw Masha's innocent eye pull him out of his insanity and keep his humanity intact, within a day of traveling with her, he learn that inside this city where only death and sadness there is still some humanity left inside.
The blood dripping from his legs made his whole body weak to make any movement, but at last, the scavs entered his vision and laughed at how pathetic his attempts were, he held the pistol in his head and said some words that Alex didn't understand.
Alex only can grit his teeth in pain and anger at how useless he is in this situation, as the scav begins to pull the trigger a surge of strength comes all over his body and his eyes dilate when he sees everything in slow motion.
His body suddenly moved on his own and he skilfully disarmed the scav pistol in a second as if he had done it a million times, he then proceeded to use the scav own gun and shot the scav head, instantly killing him in one shot.
The other scav around him began to panic and were ready to start shooting their gun at him, once again like muscle memory, he grabbed the scav dead body to shield himself from their bullets.
His hand instantly aims the pistol at the scavs and dispatches one of the there scav with ease, then he pushes the dead scav towards one of them and kills the guy beside him.
The last scav fell on the weight of his friend and pushed the dead scav aside just to see Alex already standing up with a battered face covered in blood and aiming the pistol at the downed scav.
*Click*
Alex cocks the pistol hammer down and slowly pull the trigger, the last thing the scav saw before him is the eye of a predator looking down on his prey.
*BANG*
The sound of one gunshot rings throughout the city blocks that ended the fight, alex eyes are devoid of any life as if his body automatically trying to survive and his mind is on a blank slate.
All of a sudden Alex's consciousness came back and he saw everybody around him die, he looked down at his hand and saw his bloodied arm carrying a pistol.
He dropped the gun and began to shake in confusion, 'Wh-what did I just do', before he could do anything his body gave up on him from the fight and he fell to the ground as his blood loss made him lose all control for his body.
On the ground, Alex began to feel sleepy and his eyes slowly got heavier, at the last moment, he saw a group of armed men and an old woman with a medical coat rushing toward him.
With nothing he could do, he only closed his eyes, hoping they would help him out and slowly his consciousness began to fly away.
[Line break]
[Location: Unknown]
[Time: 11:43 PM]
??? POV:
A couple of scavs are standing over the fire barrel while drinking vodka in the night sky, trying to have fun, but their fun is cut short.
*Pshtt* *Pshtt*
A silent shot comes from the darkness dropping the scavs instantly without any resistance, in the darkness we can see four figures coming out from the darkness wearing night vision goggles on their helmet.
They have full gear on with AKS filled with attachments, the fire lightens up their whole figure and we can see they are a group of PMC from BEAR, the only thing that stands out from this group is the person leading them.
The leader has a feminine figure from the rest of the squad and has long white hair coming down from her helmet.
She looks around for any more threats and signals her squad to stop, "(in Russian) Area clear, fox how far the evac from our position?", she asks the guy beside her who carries a GPS in his hand.
"(In Russian) about 1,5 Km, we have 1 hour for our evac", she nods and asks the guy behind her.
"(in Russian) understood, Sly is the file secured?", the guy pulled out a yellow secure container from his back and showed her it was all secured.
"(in Russian) The objective is secured boss, but I don't understand why they want this flash drive, is it so important that they send us to retrieve this?", he only got a stare from her.
"(in Russian) sly our job is to finish the mission, not to question it, do you understand?"
"(in Russian) *sigh* yes boss, I hope the pay is worth it"
She ignores his comment and signals her squad to move towards the extractions point, but they don't know that in Tarkov no one can truly escape, and only betrayal waiting for them in the end.
