บท 17: Shielding Badge

[Killing a level 10 goblin patroller, experience +300]

[Kill a level 11 goblin soldier, experience +350]

[Goblin bone acquired]

...

The reports came in like a flood, and the experience increased rapidly.

44 Bronze-ranked Skeleton Warriors killed monsters in the forest under Lin Moyu's command.

Thanks to the improved skills, Lin Moyu could once again enjoy the thrill of instant killing.

These Bronze-ranked Skeleton Warriors effortlessly dispatched level 10 and 11 Goblin creatures with a single blow.

Efficiency increased again; from level 10, the experience required for each level up almost tripled.

Leveling up became slower and slower.

At this rate, Lin Moyu needed at least 5000 goblin creatures killed to level up a single level.

Although the Skeleton warriors were tireless, they still couldn't make it.

When night fell, Lin Moyu was still 30% short of reaching level 11.

In the forest, Lin Moyu lit a campfire and ate from the supplies he had brought from home.

He had no intention of returning; time was short and he couldn't afford to waste it on the road.

"At this rate of leveling up, I should reach level 13 tomorrow, but it's unclear if I can reach level 15 the day after tomorrow

"After level 15, the pace of advancement will slow down further and I'll have to allow another day to return. According to my calculations, I'll reach level 16 at most."

"Then how did my sister ascend? Her ascension speed can't have surpassed mine."

"My sister was a rare class: an elf summoner. Her level advancement must have been similar to Xia Xue's."

"I must have missed something."

Lin Moyu thought about his memories and combined the knowledge he had acquired at school with Lin Mohan's actions back then.

Suddenly, he realized something.

The western sea mine dungeon.

"Did my sister team up with others for a dungeon run?"

"And it was at least one Nightmare level dungeon."

"Nightmare level dungeons are full of upgraded elite monsters that certainly give a lot of experience."

"So the last time my sister came back, she was injured and being treated."

"Yes, it must be like that."

Lin Moyu clenched his fist, certain of his conclusion.

"I'll check it out tomorrow."

His mind was made up.

When night fell, all the monsters within a radius of five hundred meters around him had disappeared.

The Skeleton Warriors lurked in the darkness while Lin Moyu began to meditate.

With 44 Skeleton Warriors protecting him and the passive abilities, safety wasn't a problem.

The night forest wasn't completely silent; distant wolf howls could occasionally be heard.

The rustling of leaves carried by the wind also conveyed a hint of terror.

Where Lin Moyu was staying, the temperature was lower than elsewhere, and the presence of the skeletal warriors turned the night breeze into a gust of cool wind.

In the middle of the night, a Skeleton Warrior suddenly uttered a warning, startling Lin Moyu out of his meditation.

The skeleton warrior spotted someone approaching his location.

"Is it a fellow warrior?"

"There aren't many people who venture into the forest at midnight to improve themselves. Could they have gotten lost?"

Lin Moyu remained calm but became suspicious inside.

One should never be careless in the outside world.

A campfire at night was the best beacon.

Soon, the newcomer appeared in Lin Moyu's field of vision.

"That's her."

Lin Moyu had seen her in the afternoon, the person dressed in black who had escaped.

"Do you have anything to eat?" her voice was melodious.

A pair of large eyes shone brightly in the firelight, clear and bright.

Lin Moyu handed her a sweet potato.

All he had prepared was a sweet potato and some clean water.

The black-clad person didn't mind, and after taking off her mask, she ate greedily, visibly famished.

Behind the mask was a delicate and fine face that appeared to be about 18 or 19 years old and had a youthful appearance.

Lin Moyu refrained from using recognition spells on strangers; it was impolite and could even cause hostility.

"Th..." Before she could finish the word, she began to cough violently.

She choked as she ate the sweet potato and tried to speak to Lin Moyu.

Lin Moyu handed her a bottle of water.

After taking a few sips, she finally cleared her throat.

"Thanks," she finally said, and Lin Moyu just nodded, which meant she didn't need to thank her.

The person dressed in black ate the sweet potato slowly and with graceful movements.

As she ate, her beautiful eyes occasionally glanced at Lin Moyu and sparkled, but revealed nothing of her thoughts.

After she finished eating, she finally spoke, "What's your name?"

Seeing that Lin Moyu didn't answer, she continued, "You're not much of a talker, are you? How about we cast recognition spells on each other?"

Lin Moyu thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.

They both cast a detection spell on each other at the same time.

Lin Moyu was dumbfounded; the detection spell failed and didn't provide any information.

The person dressed in black suddenly chortled and looked triumphant, "Hehe, you got nothing, huh?"

"So, your name is Lin Moyu, level 10, and your profession is... a necromancer? I've never heard of that profession before; that's pretty weird."

"I saw a skeleton with you this afternoon; is that your summoned creature? Summoning undead is pretty rare."

Her words flowed incessantly, one after the other.

"Why aren't you saying anything? Don't tell me you're mute; you don't seem to be."

Lin Moyu looked at her and asked calmly, "Why?"

She looked as if she had discovered a new continent, her face full of astonishment: "So you can speak after all."

"Why?" Lin Moyu looked at her and asked again.

She continued smiling, "You're wondering why the detection spell failed, aren't you? It's because of this."

She pulled out an object that looked like a badge: "This is the shield. As long as you wear it, detection spells from people below level 10 will fail compared to you."

She put the badge away, "Now let me try using a detection spell on you again."

Lin Moyu nodded and cast another detection spell.

This time, it worked.

(Ning Yi Yi, level 19, Shadow Assassin)

A gust of wind blew past, and Ning Yi Yi's smile instantly disappeared as Lin Moyu looked in the direction she was staring from.
