A month later
Harriet Parker paced the length of her luxurious bedroom, the soft carpet beneath her feet doing little to cushion the agitation that had taken hold of her.
The morning sun filtered through the large windows, casting a golden hue on the elegant furniture and delicate drapes, but Harriet barely noticed.
Her mind was too preoccupied, spinning with thoughts that left her on edge. Today was supposed to be a day of celebration. A new branch launch, a step forward in their family's legacy.
But all she could think about was how to prevent the disaster looming on the horizon. What could she do to stop this disaster? She mused as she continued to pace around.
Four days ago, Liam had dropped a bombshell on her. A news she had never imagined she would hear at all how much more so soon.
She thought as the memory of that conversation replayed in her mind with vivid clarity.
