บท 28: Chapter 28
" but aunty Sandra –" Patricia started but stopped when she saw the disapproving look in Daniel's eyes .
" Patricia, in the current state of the world, personal strength is very important. Make the right decision." Daniel insisted .
Daniel knew what he was doing, but what did it matter , he wasn't going to be the only one benefiting . Daniel didn't really like using this method , this was up Jay's alley . But he didn't want an object but a human this time , and he wanted her to come to him on her own , or at least think that she did.
Daniel read a lot of novels with female leads , usually they walked all over the people who treated them like people , and sought validation from those who straight up emotionally or psychologically manipulated them .
Patricia was young and impressionable, she also had no one in the world apart from her aunt who kind of neglects her unintentionally. He wasn't really into psychology, but he had social media, and a lot of topics were discussed on platforms for his genius mind to work with.
Daniel wasn't a hero , he wasn't a good person, he just didn't go out of his way to hurt people . But if you were in his way, if you had something he wanted and couldn't get anywhere else , if you threatened his safety and that of those he designated as important to his life , he wouldn't mind doing anything in his power to get it , or stop you .
" I–I okay , I will be your companion" Patricia agreed under his pressure.
Daniel let out a warm smile and squat down to reach her level which he was still higher than .
" You will not regret your choice , and we'll get our revenge" he patted her head.

The cat clawed at him . It didn't connect though with his defenses always up at all times .
Daniel suspected the cat had also manifested . It seemed intelligent. Like on a human level . Possibily higher . He could tell that it was acting normal after he observed it for Soo long .
" What's your friends name ?" Daniel asked Patricia.
" Wh–whiskers , he's Captain whiskers "
She hid her face . She knew that that name was soo unoriginal, it was practically a crime .
' same naming defect as her parents' Daniel noted internally.
" Hello whiskers, you'll be tagging along " he said in the most friendly tone , but it clearly wasn't a question.
" Mister , so can I go back now ? I think I have to tell my aunt and the others ."
" Of course , but before that can you tell me about your powers?"
" My powers , hmm... It's like I can know , no its like fighting, I can fight" clearly Patricia didn't know how to explain it .
" Can you show me ?"
" How ? "
" Attack me ." Daniel moved back and stood tall towering over the twelve year old .
" Um but what if you get hurt? "
" Let me worry about that "
" Um, ugh , okay?" Patricia said unsurely .
She picked up whiskers and walked along the grassy plains placing him far away enough.
" Start whenever you are ready Patricia "
" Um are you sure you won't get hurt? "
" I'm sure "
' she's too sensitive ' Daniel noted further
' we can condition her right? ' his habit of internally referring to himself in the plural as though he was many might have become worse than before he was disassembled by the gaze body mind and soul .
" Okay I'm ready "
" Begin!"
Patricia leaped from her position to Daniel , a fist rared back , then punched when she was close enough .
' that was bad '
Daniel stopped her with his bare palms using body strength alone .
' but the power generated is greater than the average adult human.
Patricia seemed to have figured out that Daniel wasn't really impressed because the next punch from the girl came from below since she was shorter and landed on the ground .
She went for the exposed abdomen this time around. Again blocked with the same palm, the appendage ( the arm) didn't even budge .
' greater than before by about 0.02 , not enough to kill a melovus though .
Again a punch at his shoulder , blocked ,
At his chin , blocked. left chest , blocked , right rib cage , blocked.
" Why aren't you using your legs?"
" I don't , I .."
" Try it , you can do it Patricia"
Was Daniel impressed , yes , yes he was , like him or even better , she was getting better with each attack. What he could say about her power though was talent. It just gave her the acumen of a martial artist. Daniel could tell that for as long as her power was manifested Patricia had never actually used them , the humans surrounding her probably treated her like a child .
' wasteful ignorant trash' Daniel really couldn't believe such talent was being withheld!
She was even learning about cross punching, hook punches and the like trying whatever method she could feel within her at first her attacks were all individual, she then learnt within 2 minutes that two of three attacks could be grouped. Then the next two minutes she learnt how to plan them what came before what and went where. Her kicksbegun to vary and tie into her grouping formula!
Daniel was absolutely positive that an hour was enough for her to learn enough to beat Jace ! Like he did ! Maybe even less .
It was like one super genius meeting another, just that while one was a comprehensive genius package, the other was a singular field of expertise genius !.one also has 2 weeks and not just an hour of experience, even if it was just with himself.
The more Patricia discovered her gifts the more in love with it she got.but it frustrated her that no matter how much she improved Daniel just blocked it all so easily!
'How do I get passed his palm!' this was the entire of Patricia's mind .
Her very style of combat begun to morph into ways to bypass his defenses!
Daniel was very shocked by this . It wasn't that he couldn't do it, but that Patricia's speed of forming a style just to bypass his palm dwarfed him .
' Amazing! '
Daniel had to stop thou .
" It's okay , I see what I'm working with . "
" It's okay , I can go further " Patricia lost her starter , she and Daniel were amazed at each other .
If any ideas of not going with Daniel had been present, they were squished. Patricia was thoroughly hooked . The prospect of getting the chance to continue excited her .
Daniel Patricia and whiskers reappeared at the front of the shelter . Jay was surrounded, with his bluish barrier up , Sandra was distraught, and the guard captain was nowhere to be seen .
The moment they noticed them the guns changed targets , but no shots were fired .
"Sweety come here"
" Don't hurt the mister okay "
" Sweetie don't listen to him , he's a bad man , come here, please"
Patricia looks torn . She looks back and forth , between her distraught Aunt and her stoic faced companion.
" I-I won't come over unless you promise me " she said .
Sandra looks even more distraught , but nods . Patricia smiles brightly and runs to her only remaining family member's embrace, and she is clutched tightly.
"I'll keep my promise" Sandra said while still hugging
" But they won't " suddenly the guard captain came out of her hiding spot with a grenade launcher.
Thump .
Jay sees this and immediately comes to defend his friend
VaBoom a barrier expands so quickly it shoves the grenade out of the way , but the propulsive force still act on it making it go to the other side of the barrier before exploding , meaning all were safe.
Daniel was aware of their plan , kind of but he let things play out as is . Like back when he noticed like escape his binds . That's just how whack his brain was sometimes.
Patricia struggled out of her aunts hugg and yelled in fear that her companion was hurt or worse .
" You are a pain" Jay said .
" But you brought me here knowing that "
Daniel and Jay bantered like they hadn't just been shot by a grenade launcher, with an actual working grenade in it .
" So what now ? " Daniel asked Jay
" What now as in ?"
" Have you said 'hi'?"
" Surprisingly these people are xenophobic ."
" To who, you are basically walking privilege, racism won't get you , nor gender nor eugenics or sexuality. And you are a Kansan with powers to boot "
" They are xenophobic to any and all persons who didn't get into the shelter in the first two days of the apocalypse "
" Are they trying to separate themselves from others , isn't the military in operations here ?"
" Yes they are , but they are in on it too"
" Hey ! I'm private Daniel tetteh you can call area CERY347540KS and confirm my identity " Daniel spoke to the guard captain
" Already tried that , they are xenophobic, it isn't suppose to be logical "
" All things good and rational" Daniel sighed
There was silence for a while
" I am taking my friend and her cat over there as my companions , she is safer and can grow stronger with me than here with you . Do what's best for all of us and let me leave with her . I can take better care of her health and ' hygiene ' cloth her better , educate her better , keep her safer , train her better , frankly letting her stay in your company is an affront to all things good and rational "
His simple speech seemed to have offended all the guards present . The barred their amaments at him .
" Those will never work on me . put them away, are you not embarrassing yourselves ? "
" We can't do that Patricia is not only a part of the hutch shelter, but she is also a girl child . Why on earth would I leave her to two men who have proven themselves untrustworthy!" Guard captain said .
" You dare? , me untrustworthy?, who was it that sneak attacked two teenage boys with a fucking grenade launcher with the aim to kill? . Who is more untrustworthy than a bunch of xenophobic pricks ?. Who is more untrustworthy than a woman who refuses to share her name ? Who is more untrustworthy than a soldier that denies a private the right to confirm his identity through a simple call?! Do not lecture me on untrustworthy, you and your shelter shouldn't be allowed to host kids when you aren't 100 percent sure you can protect them. "
Daniel wasn't even loud or heated . But he managed to really get under their skin. It was classic prove yourself crap people liked to pull on others . And he sure as hell didn't have the time .
" What are you saying to the family and friends of the person you want to take under your wing? ?!" Jay yelled at him .
He then looked at them .
" If he says he will look after her. Then he will . My friend is many things , but he isn't a lier . We can discuss more if we are invited inside " Jay said amicably.
Meanwhile Patricia did not look at her people even once . They had promised her , even if her aunt was the only one that spoke , she had spoken on everyone's behalf! Meaning all of her friends had lied to her . While they treated her like a kid, Daniel treated her like an equal . During all of their quite frankly short interaction, she never once felt looked down upon due to age.
If she was smarter she would have realized she was soo easily manipulated because of her inexperience. Daniels bigger and more masculine physique also made him look older than Sandra her aunt who was in her late twenties. So even if he said his age , his behavior and body were what they used as the measurement.
Patricia, was slowly loosing trust in her 'friends '
" I can't allow that , this conversation is over , Pat so inside now" the guard captain said to Patricia.
Patricia never saw anything wrong with the short hand version of her name , not once even her lost friends in the same grade had called her that .
But the way Daniel mentioned the full name even though he said it was old fashioned made her feel like she was respected. But what could she do , the guard captain had given her an order.
She waved ' good bye to the two handsome young men and walked into the entrance with Sandra following closely behind.
" Please leave , you are not wanted here."
For some time Daniel stared at them all so intensely they felt quisy .
And then one moment they were there and the next they weren't.
The guard let out a collective sigh.
They hadn't seen a more powerful human before.imervious to bullets , godly inferring skills , and the ability to ' teleport ' . Too strong . If he really wanted to take Patricia he could but maybe he didn't want to force it?
What they did not know was that Daniel had not given up , no to him this was his way of letting Patricia say her good byes properly, after checking on his growth lab , he'd be back for her which shouldn't be a day more .
What Daniel didn't know was that outside of his mile spacial diameter in a blind spot , there was a group of 5 .
" He left " Clide answered to Janice .
The dog headed cynocephali nodded in understanding.
