"Hey, I'm not your enemy. Why are you all looking at me like I am?"
Byakuya spread his hands in a gesture of helplessness as he lounged on the sofa, facing the hostile gazes of the CP9 members.
Supported by Blueno, Lucci managed to stand up, his breath weak as he questioned,
"Rear Admiral Byakuya, I don't know how you discovered our hidden identities, but we CP9 agents are carrying out secret missions assigned by the World Government."
"If you forcibly gather us and our mission fails, what then? How will we answer to our superiors?"
Under the threat of Byakuya's overwhelming strength and his knowledge of all their hidden identities, Lucci had no choice but to make a decision that went against their protocol.
He summoned all the CP9 members to figure out what Byakuya wanted.
Otherwise, they would have to be on high alert and unable to sleep peacefully.
Byakuya placed his hands behind his head and calmly replied, "Even if blame comes down, it'll fall on you guys, not me."
As soon as he finished speaking, the CP9 members were infuriated by his shameless words. They had never encountered someone so brave.
They glared at Byakuya angrily, especially Kalifa, who was grinding her teeth. If she could, she might have bitten a piece out of him.
Byakuya casually glanced over the CP9 members, unconcerned by their anger. The anger of the weak was meaningless in the face of the strong.
But when his gaze landed on Kalifa, he paused. Damn, a secretary outfit with long legs in fishnet stockings and high heels? Who wouldn't be captivated?
Under Byakuya's gaze, Kalifa lost her earlier fierce demeanor and shyly looked away, hiding behind the others as if Byakuya might take her right then and there.
As the true leader of CP9, Lucci, supported by Blueno, stepped in front of Kalifa, blocking Byakuya's view. Byakuya pouted, "Tch, no fun."
Exasperated by Byakuya's childish behavior, Lucci sighed, "Rear Admiral Byakuya, can we get down to business?"
Surprised, Byakuya responded, "Business already? That's too fast. I'm not even familiar with Kalifa yet. How about we get to know each other better first?"
For a moment, Lucci nearly spat blood in frustration. What kind of rear admiral is this? Can we have a normal conversation?
Blueno, supporting Lucci, could feel him trembling more violently, struggling to breathe.
Gritting his teeth, Lucci demanded, "Rear Admiral Byakuya, what do you want from us?" Seeing Lucci's weak state, Byakuya decided to stop teasing him.
"Here's the deal. I'm here to recruit you all as my subordinates to work for me in the future."
Byakuya's straightforwardness left no room for misunderstanding. Stunned, Lucci asked, "You want us to join the Marines?"
"But we belong to a special intelligence organization. We know too much. The World Government would never allow us to join the Marines."
Byakuya shook his head, "Not the Marines. I'm talking about a new organization I created called 'Night.'"
"Night?" Lucci, usually sharp-minded, found himself bewildered. A Marine rear admiral establishing his organization?
Byakuya spoke calmly, "You have two choices: join or be forced to join."
The CP9 members collectively rolled their eyes. You could have just said we had no choice at all.
Lucci took a deep breath and asked in a low voice, "What if we choose to refuse?"
Byakuya replied matter-of-factly, "Then it's a one-way ticket to the afterlife. You all heard my secret, after all."
The CP9 members were furious. It's not like we wanted to hear it; you forced it on us! Despite their anger, they knew they had no choice.
If they refused, Byakuya could kill them all in an instant. Everyone looked at Lucci, the true leader of CP9. Whatever choice he made, they would follow.
Faced with this non-choice, Lucci quickly decided, "We are willing to join the 'Night' organization."
"Good, but saying it isn't enough to prove your sincerity," Byakuya said, clapping his hands. "You need to bring a token of your loyalty."
"A token?" Lucci had an inkling of what Byakuya would say next.
"I'll give you one hour to bring me the head of CP9's chief, Spandam," Byakuya declared.
Everyone's faces changed. Killing Spandam would mark them as traitors, hunted endlessly by the World Government.
"From now, you have one hour. If I don't see Spandam's head or if any of you are missing, Lucci will lose his head,"
Byakuya said, pulling Lucci close to him. With Lucci in his grasp, Byakuya had no fear of them leaking the plan.
Lucci stayed silent, not wanting his comrades to suffer because of him. Yet, he feared Byakuya might kill them all if he spoke up.
Byakuya added, "Fifty-nine minutes left."
"Let's go!" Kaku said. "Blueno, open the door. If we act fast, an hour is enough!"
The six members swiftly entered the portal Blueno created, vanishing from Byakuya and Lucci's sight.
Lucci looked at Byakuya's calm expression, "Aren't you worried they won't come back?"
Byakuya smiled, "You should trust how much you mean to them."
"What are you trying to do? You're a Marine Rear Admiral. Why are you secretly creating an organization?"
"I'm doing it for world peace."
"..."
As Byakuya expected, the CP9 members returned within half an hour.
Kaku placed Spandam's terrified head on the table and said coldly, "We completed the task. Release Lucci."
Byakuya took out a Den Den Mushi, smiling mysteriously, "There's one more thing to do."
Half an hour later, the seven CP9 members stood in a line, looking utterly humiliated, while Byakuya recorded them with the Den Den Mushi.
"Begin!" Byakuya ordered. The CP9 members, visibly embarrassed, recited,
"Prepare for trouble!"
"And make it double!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Kaku!"
"Blueno!"
"Jabra!"
"Kumadori!"
"Fukurou!"
"Lucci!"
"We are the guardians of the world, the 'Night' organization!"
"Justice and peace await us tomorrow!"
Kalifa, blushing deeply, added in a small voice, "Kalifa~ That's right~ "
Byakuya, satisfied, put away the Den Den Mushi and said excitedly,
"Excellent. You are all members of the 'Night' organization from today onward!"
