British Ministry of Magic
The Ministry of Magic is located deep underground, relying solely on magical light sources that create a depth-filled and somber atmosphere. However, the grand lobby and reception hall manage to dampen this mood.
The ground boasts a dark wooden floor that has been meticulously polished to a brilliant and captivating finish. Above, the ceiling is adorned with a peacock blue color and embedded with gleaming golden symbols that constantly shift and change.
Embedded in the walls on either side of the main hall are numerous gilded fireplaces. People continuously emerge from the one on the left, while a wizard on their way out walks towards the fireplace on the right.
In the center of the foyer, a fountain takes its place. Standing in the middle of the circular pool are a group of statues cast entirely in pure gold. Amongst them, the tallest is a noble wizard, holding his wand high while pointing it straight toward the sky. Surrounding him, one can see a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house elf. The centaurs, goblins, and house elves all look up at the two wizards with boundless admiration. This is quite intriguing, as wizards tend to align themselves with those who believe in racial superiority and pure-blood ideology.
Within the reception area, Newt feels a sense of worry.
This marks his fifth visit to the Ministry of Magic to file an appeal.
After leaving New York last year, he returned to the UK to compile and publish his book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." This accomplishment signifies the realization of his dreams.
However, there are complications.
The Ministry of Magic has banned his international travel due to the events in New York.
Although the Magical Congress of the United States attributed the incident to Grindelwald, Newt still played a significant role in causing trouble. As a result, the British Ministry of Magic was also implicated.
While the British Ministry of Magic does not dare to take action against Grindelwald, they have no qualms about causing trouble for Newt.
Not only has he been reprimanded by the Ministry of Magic, but his travel permission has also been revoked.
For a magizoologist like Newt, this news is simply unacceptable.
Certainly, he can continue to travel the world undercover with his Muggle disguise, but without the Ministry of Magic's travel permit, he will be limited to acting as a mere Muggle. He will be prohibited from using spells or engaging with the local magical community. This, of course, is deeply unsettling for Newt. Having grown up in the wizarding world and being heavily reliant on magic, he cannot fathom this reality.
Admittedly, there may be another reason for his distress - a mistake that involves a woman.
He had promised to personally give her his books, yet he is unable to fulfill this commitment due to his inability to leave the country. Perhaps due to my breach of trust, I received no replies to the letters I sent. This greatly distressed Newt. As a result, he has been trying to find a way to regain his travel permission. He wants to restore his license, continue studying magical animals, make up for his breach of trust, and find redemption.
Today, he is here at the Ministry of Magic for the fifth hearing to lift his international travel ban. Anxiously waiting for his summons, Newt couldn't help but clasp his hands tightly. "They're waiting for you, Newt," a voice called out.
Newt looked up and saw her. She was a beautiful girl, but that was not important. What was important was who she was - Leta Lestrange. The person he once thought was his soul mate was now his sister-in-law. It's truly a sad story.
"Leta?" Newt was taken aback. He couldn't help but ask, "Why are you here?"
"Theseus thought it would be nice for me to join the Ministry family," Leta replied.
Newt looked puzzled, "Did he say 'Ministry of Magic family'? That sounds like something my brother would say."
The tension and awkwardness between them were interrupted by the Ministry of Magic's alchemical version of a sweeping robot.
"You haven't been coming to dinner. Theseus is a bit disappointed," Leta said, walking alongside Newt. She gently pushed the hair on her forehead back behind her ears. "We invited you, but you didn't come."
Newt hesitated a bit before replying, "I've been quite busy, you know, writing and revising books."
"He's your brother, and he's willing to stay with you for a while," Leta paused, then added briskly, "So am I."
Newt lowered his head, unable to meet her gaze. Perhaps fate was smiling upon Newt, as the Bowtruckle Pickett he had been hiding in his pocket decided to make an appearance.
"Come on out, Pickett." Taking magical animals might be a common thing for magizoologists, but, the Ministry of Magic didn't allow it.
Observing the interaction between Newt and Pickett, Leta couldn't help but reminisce and chuckle, "Why is it that strange creatures always seem to adore you?"
"Well, there are no strange creatures," Newt said, suffering from a professional ailment. However, Leta picked up the conversation, and the two almost said in unison, "It's because people are narrow-minded."
"It's because people are narrow-minded..." The atmosphere grew even more strained.
Newt, Newt, she's no longer your old friend; she's now your sister-in-law.
"How long has it been since you last said that to Prendergast?" Leta teased.
"That was about a month ago, you know..."
Leta remembered her childish antics, "I placed a giant dung egg under the desk to keep you company. Remember? Ha!"Two old friends reminisced, creating a warm atmosphere, until a tall and thin figure interrupted, causing the atmosphere to dissipate.
The figure was Theseus Scamander, who happened to be Newt's brother and Leta's fiancé.
The dynamics within this family are also quite complicated.
Theseus was unaware that Newt and Leta had found solace in each other during their time in school. Despite their isolation, they had formed a deep friendship.
It's worth mentioning that these two brothers share a similar aesthetic.
After Newt left school, he and Theseus hardly ever crossed paths again. Over the past ten years, Leta had gotten to know Theseus. They had also fought side by side and eventually agreed to pursue a romantic relationship.
While there were rumors and criticisms, certain things needed clarification and proof from Leta. Although Newt may have harbored some teenage affection for Leta, his former best friend, they never became a couple in the end.
The youthful feelings they once had were left unresolved, but now they have both matured.
Reflecting on the past together does not mean getting stuck in the past.
Ultimately, life takes precedence.
