Feeling the adrenaline rushing through him as he steadied his breath, Spheris slowly lowered his gaze to the dead Devourer.

'I just killed a Legendary beast.'

In moments like this — singular fleeting moments — flashes of realization would strike Spheris and he would see just how much his life had changed.

Few weeks ago, he had spent his last callister on sugar bread and milk, not knowing anything about this world of magic and monsters... not wanting to know.

But now, he was standing victorious after slaying a beast three ranks above him. A beast he never even knew existed all those weeks ago.

What was his life now? Who was he?

"In all the Five Wings and beyond, that was the singular most awesome thing I have ever seen!"

He turned around slowly to see the girls who were now approaching him. He'd almost forgotten they were there.
